Sigourney Weaver confirms that there are still plans to make Alien 5, and that “it’ll be worth the wait”…
When Ridley Scott elected to press ahead with his Prometheus sequel, which now goes by the name of Alien: Covenant, one of the consequences of that was Neill Blomkamp’s mooted Alien 5 got put on hold. Certainly if our own comments sections are anything to go by, people seem keener to see Alien 5 than Alien: Covenant (although write a Ridley Scott movie off at your peril, of course), with Blomkamp’s movie notably set to bring Sigourney Weaver back to the series.
We’ve not heard anything about Alien 5 for quite a while now, though, and to all intents and purposes, it looked like the movie had at best been put on hold, worse been put into some kind of turnaround.
Yet Sigourney Weaver has given an update on the project, and the signs are more positive than we thought.
Is it still happening?
“Well, I think it is”, she said. “Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien til after Prometheus 2. He [Ridley Scott] wanted his movie to shoot and be released first”.
As for Alien 5, though, “it’s an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it. We’re doing other things until we can get going on that”.
“I’d be really surprised if we didn’t do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together”, she said. “So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait”.
In the meantime, Alien: Covenant is set for release in October 2017. We’ll bring you more news on that and Alien 5 as we get it…
