They should boost minion and thrall bas xp value and award better for damaging but not landing final blow on minions… Scoring here should also include buildables built and destroyed, thralls captured and enemy thralls stopped (With deductions forr thrall damage to sentry)… But what about the spectator?

There are campers and spawn campers. Two different things. Campers are people who just hide around corners somewhere and wait for people to come into view so they can kill them easily. It’s all about response times. A camper only needs to process the player coming into view while the player turning the corner has to process the new environment as well as the player laying in wait. This tends to give the camper an edge. It is considered by many to be a somewhat cheap tactic and is often used by players of lesser skill (though skilled players will also use it for the advantage it gives). Often you need to flank campers or flush them out with grenades (if not outright kill them with the grenades if they are foolish enough not to move).

Spawn camping on the other hand is waiting near the enemy spawn for the enemy player to respawn and kill them before they have a chance to process their environment and respond. It is considered an extremely cheap tactic. I don’t know why so many games allow this at all. There should always be mechanics in place to prevent this sort of thing. If the game mechanics allow for spawn camping there really isn’t anything you can do to counter it which is why it is seen as being cheap/unfair to the degree that it is.

I have that FPS mentality when playing this game but I was always more preoccupied with not dying rather than getting kills. I still push and assist minions as best I can but I’m always very cautious.

As I hate the overwatch lovers they should add a little help sign for team comp, I mean it would only help and won’t insanely increase win loss ratio or anything, it’ll just help players work together. And btw the reason I stated reasons is because I don’t want those ppl who go around saying no getting credit

Really good post and a great summary of the prevalent, and inherently wrong, attitude of many BB players.

Prime example.

Me and my GF are playing meltdown together and we’re losing pretty solidly due to mismatched lanes and good team focus from the opposition.

A guy playing Benedict on our team suddenly switches on his mic to tell us “you guys suck” then switches off and continues to go full Rambo on the other team.

The game ends in an inevitable loss for us and he sends us both private messages to say “you’re garbage”.

So I check our comparative stat-lines to see if there’s any truth to his allegations.

His score 16/6/0 K/D/A with 10 minions and 1 objective.
My score 2/8/7 K/D/A with 75 minions and 35 objectives.
GF score 1/6/13 K/D/A with 55 minions and 30 objectives.

So who really was the garbage player? It’s all a matter of perspective I suppose.

You were the better players by far. That guy should stick to capture.

In my experience, when a player starts telling their teammates how lousy they are in ANY game, there’s a 99% chance that player is themselves awful and used to being carried by others. This particular case doesn’t strike me as one that will defy the odds.

I’m used to being carried by better players. If I am the best player and have to carry the team you better hope the other team is on the skill level as my teammates or we’re all screwed. :confounded:

Anyway, skilled teammates or not I tend to do best when there is communication and teamwork. I shine when my teammates support me and flounder when they don’t. It’s strange how I can perform better or worse than I do solo depending on the team I am with. Of course, it doesn’t always depend on my team because from time to time I have moments where I just seem to be out of sync with everyone and everything around me and I’m always getting in someone’s way or they are getting in mine because something just isn’t clicking.

I get frustrated sometimes and I’ll vent that frustration occasionally and sometimes I may even snap at someone. I hate it when I do that and try to avoid it as much as possible. If anything I am more frustrated with myself and the situation than anything else, though there are times when yes I am quite frustrated with my teammate(s). I’m still learning to be patient with myself and others. You’d think that I’d know better by now. At any rate when the match is over I tend to forget about it. Then the roller coaster begins all over again in the next match. It’s probably why I prefer to play Story as for me it tends to be a much smoother ride.

I’ve played FPS games from their first inception, and have played in a world dominating clan, so please be careful before responding without care of thought.

This is one of the reasons I stated Marquis has no place in this game. He’s a Sniper, and CAMPS all day long rarely involved in the game, just hitting targets from way down the map using a high velocity weapon. Sure some players can use him well, but ref the OP, too many players use him because it’s easy, and they don’t like moving around getting killed.

I am pretty new to mobas. I used to play mmos, rpgs and stuff like this with the occasional shooter in the mix.

To me, it looks like this game has different classes. Assassins make sure, that players don’t do their jobs, pushers kill npcs and help with objectives. Supporters help the teammates to perform better and tanks protect the team and disrupt the enemies.

I hope I got it right.

If I am playing as a pusher (like benedict or mike), my main job is not to kill players. Assassins do that. Every role is important and a good mix is needed for a team.

I guess that would people who come from cod and bf need to get used to roles and priorities first.

@DaRTH_FuRioN hahaha that came off way harsher than I intended then. I assumed you were quite young considering you attributed the terms origins to CoD. You should know that while it existed in Doom, it wasn’t effective and it truly began in the original Quake (1996). The term definitely has expanded, as @Kaleidodemon pointed out, but it’s original content t was spawn camping. Hell it began to have context in non fps games though in many forms. Again though, my tone was much more light hearted.

And I think Marquis does have a place, and definitely has his counters. I think the reason so many people choose him and oscar Mike is that they’re very familiar with those two class types from shooters and don’t expand their horizons enough.

Marquis can be countered consistently by any high-DPS, high-agility character (Mellka / Thorn / Phoebe / Rath etc…).

He is only overly effective against characters with large hit boxes, and teams that allow him to stay in position for long periods of time without harassment.

Marquis troubles are often more a team composition issue than anything else, at least in my experience.

I guess it depends on play style. I main Oscar Mike, and pretty much always play Meltdown (not a huge fan of Incursion. Meltdown feels more balanced). K/D is never my priority. First priority is always the M1 Shepard, followed by the smaller Blade Bots. Only once I’ve cleared the majority of them and see that my Minions have pushed past the threshold do I go for kills.

But I guess its like you said. If you’re hanging back and going for kills on enemy Battleborn? You’re not playing the game right, and I guess that’s kind of your point. At the end of the day, BB is intended to be a MOBA, and objectives are a fundamental basis of MOBAs.

I can’t tell you how many rounds of Meltdown I’ve won, because everyone decided to get into a Team Fight over at Left, and I just soloed Right and pushed right through Wave after wave of bots, spawning Elite Bots when I could.

Granted, that’s kind of his role.

Aside from maybe Toby, who from what I’ve seen plays better for just suppressing fire, all the other guys you mentioned can play the same way. I’ve played Marquis and camped the sniper box, or on top of Mid, and just went for the Shepard every time. Hell, my K/D was probably less than one as Marquis, because once I took out most of the bots the enemy came after me, and my squishy robot butt couldn’t handle the abuse XD

If you chance an up close 1v1 with Marquis you can win… Just drop a distortion and control the fight…

The other night, I got 3 kills, scored 13 assists, died 1 death AND took down sentry 1 as Marquis - yet a team “mate” Galilea kept sending me the most offensive PSN messages both during match and after about how I sucked not getting “enough” kills (even thou we won) … Was as if we were on different game planets.

Conversation initially went:

Galilea: What are you doing? Are you attacking enemies at all?!!!

Marquis: Apart from building thralls, minions, stations and taking out turrets, I’m attacking sentry. I somehow got the idea that was the objective …

Galilea: * Censored *

Ha. Back when Alani was god, I played her assassin style. And wave clear. And tank. All at once. I carried a match, lots of kills and assists. And I was playing with my… Not so talented friend. (Montana, went 1/13 or something). We smashed them though, since… Well. Alani and two other decent teammates.
Our Boldur decided to yell at me during and after the match. I still have the messages, so I can get a chuckle every so often. He said during the match that I wasn’t healing him enough. I told him I was focusing me and Montana, and not building healer. He then yelled about him being the tank and blah blah blah you’re a healer blah. I tried to explain that’d I don’t build tank and that I was carrying our waves and leading in kills. He threw a fit about me not healing since, apparently, Alani was a strict healer :slight_smile:

Oh, and we won by a landslide. So it wasn’t sore losing. The bottom line is! Characters have many roles. Don’t get mad at the Orendi playing assassin instead of wave clear. The Marq focused on waves over sniping enemy bb. And for the love of spongebob, do. Not. Use. Kills. As your staple for how well someone did. That’s not how this works. This is not call of duty.

I try to base my performance on everything I did: kills, deaths, assists, minions, buildables built and destroyed, shards collected, damage done, damage taken (with Monty I want it to be the highest), and healing given if I’m playing a healer. As long as my stats are on par or higher than everybody else’s I consider my job done for that game. If they’re lacking, then I had a bad game. I don’t just look at K/D/A though because if the objective isn’t accomplished, then those really don’t mean squat.

Which is what the scoring system, imo, ought calculate: ALL of it.

Because as long as kills count the most, then that is the message, and the type behaviour (in particular newer) peoples will adapt.

Absolutely. I wish they’d remove the score column until they have something better.

@Gulfwulf when I am playing a healer, I add healing done to damage dealt and compare my performance to damage dealt by teammates.

@kennysded whiny Jennerit babies can’t hurt Boldur. Boldur has tiny little healer hiding in his shield. How did it get there? Boldur doesn’t know!
