Old Man Cranky: A Comment

A better name for the title would be “Our Matchmaking sucks THIS much!”

I got it in my first capture, the other team just tried to kill us… Not capture. Maybe they got worthy of songs?

I have it and don’t even remember when, but I love the NOPE title. :sunny:

A bigger issue with the title is that it is not “Win a capture match where the enemy has 0 score”, but “Win a capture match by 1000 points”, which means even if you have kept the enemy from getting a single point, them surrendering will make all your effort null and void.

Of course, there are some titles that I find a bit odd, because they seem more reliant on an uneven match-up, or just pure luck. Old man Cranky sure does take the cake though!

Yep, if it was the other way around it wouldn’t be as bad. This one relies upon even your enemy bit knowing how to surrender, which is terrible

That’s true only to a point. Sure, getting smashed 100-5 in an Incursion match isn’t fun even in a sarcastic sense, but the keener eyed folks will be able to pick up on certain things the other team is doing. Maybe it’s the team comp. Maybe it’s a person’s loadout (this one actually made me a better Thorn). Maybe it’s the strategy, such as everyone moving as a single unit. The possibilities are endless.

Although, in fairness, sometimes all you learn from a loss is that you lost.

Well, I’m talking Capture here. Usually little gear, no opportunity to escape from spawn, hunted down mercilessly, team comps barely matter, etc. You’re correct, in other modes it’s a learning experience. But capture? I’d disagree

The only thing that people could learn from a stomping is that Battleborn sucks and they need to avoid the PvP.

Ah…
Hm…
Well uh…
O… Kay then?

(Un?)Fortunately, I still haven’t learned that lesson. Just when I’ve had enough, I’ll get a really good match, and then I’m hooked all over again. It’s rather Nietzschean.

You can still learn a few things from Capture matches. I remember a Ghalt player who used the Temples layout to his advantage - one of the points has only one route in, so he would just perch. If you approached, you were dead, plain and simple. So there’s that. I’ve also seen that most matches where I’ve gotten monkeystomped (like, say, a 29-1000 monkeystomp… it was bad) was largely because of the other team moving as a single unit. Therefore, if and when you got into a (handicapped) firefight, you were probably going to lose. It certainly didn’t help that my team was… let’s go with “less than optimal.”

While I’ll agree that there aren’t as many things to take into consideration in Capture, figuring out the “how” in where the loss came from isn’t a complete, er, loss.

All points have several entry routes. Maybe what should have been learnt from the match was that

Be that as it may, the fact remained that if we approached, we were getting, like… 8mil rounds of buckshot in the brain. You ever had buckshot in the brain? It sucks!

4 people disconnected almost immediately when the match started then the last person left not 30 seconds later or so. Thats how i got the title we just sat there for a little over5 minutes waiting for the match to end, because you know, we had no enemy team. :ok_hand:

Wut.

The game literally ends if the enemy team all leaves…

Unless one just AFK’d base?

Huh, whenever that happens to me the game just ends

Yeah, the way things are now, it’s getting pretty tough out there.

The good things about the game are being severely hurt by the bad things.

Not only that, there are a number of titles I’m not even getting credit for even though I’ve “gotten” it a number of games in a row. Coopetition, 3 games in a row. No title. I’m sure it’s happening for other titles.

I have had a couple really good games on PVP lately along with some really bad ones. I came across a couple pre-mades playing the cheapest style of PVP I’ve ever seen in the history of ever. It didn’t help that our team sucked and wouldn’t listen to direction, so there’s that.

I’m even getting to the point where I’m even bored complaining about it. I’m done soon so I’m only playing with my best guys so I have at least some help in the outcome.

Oh! All you gotta do is send in a support ticket with the picture of the win. I now consider it to be a reference to how you haven’t to communicate with Gearbox to get it

Confession: I behaved badly tonight. Two low level players in our team idled the entire game in the base (didn’t even choose characters) until they finally DC’d - never even moved.

Then, in the very next match, they were on the enemy team…! Which implies they didn’t just forget or walk away, but deliberately threw the first match and waited out the timer. So I crushed them and taunted them about four times apiece.

I did feel a little guilty at the end, but honestly, a duo idling from character select onward is the worst thing - not only is it 3v5, you can’t even guarantee surrender until they get auto-booted  (and no we did not surrender, @Ginger_greninja and I are too stubborn for that)

There’s nothing to feel bad about. For every 4v5 I’ve ever managed to win I wish I could personal message the quitter a small vid of my characters taunt under the victory screen. Complete with the message, “Guess we didn’t need you after all. You’re superfluous.”

I’ve never managed to pull out a victory on 3v5.
