100% want them back and I want them from the get go. But I know we won’t get them initially, just sucks that we’ll be paying for the same stuff as we did in bl2. Maybe my expectations are out of touch, but I’d love to have a bunch more content available at release. It’s been 7 years. If we get roughly the same amount of content as bl2, I think we’ll all be irate. There’s no reason to put the cap at level 50.
You certainly do NOT speak for me here. The amount of content in the BL1 and BL2 launches were fine by me, first playthrough took around 35 hours, and the same amount of play-time in BL3 will also be fine. I’m happy to have more - but I certainly won’t be mad about it if there isn’t more game time at launch. Besides, the re-playable nature of Borderlands means far more than 35 hours (or whatever the first playthrough brings).
As to the OP - absolutely loved the Digistruct Peak! The OP levels for successful completions of each round felt very rewarding, great system, hope we see something similar in BL3. Since it would likely come after the planned max level is attained I don’t see it coming in the base game - which works for me.

I get where you are coming from. I’ll likely have 4 playthroughs done by Christmas. This is made specifically for new consoles so I’d hope they’ll be able to give us more content and not just better looking content. Bl2 and tps look fine to me, I just want more.

Reminder folks OP was added to the game because the community demanded more challenge. The devs came up with the system in response, constrained by making do within the game’s existing design. It wasn’t part of any original intent.
Starting fresh, they’ll have much more a free hand.

I played every character at OP8 in BL2 and think OP levels existed for an unnecessary gear grind. They brought nothing to the table aside from making every enemy a bullet sponge and reliance on health gating mechanics. I think Presequel had damage scaling right and didn’t miss OP levels one bit.
They could easily add modifiers that change with specific content to increase difficulty without making everything a slog.

Speaking only for myself, and I am unanimous in this, what I DON’T like about the Level 72 + 8 OP Levels system is that it leaves you with Skills in your Trees that you couldn’t max out. Eliminate the OP Levels and instead let us TOTALLY Max Out our characters with MAXIMUM Skill Points in EVERY Skill in EVERY Tree! MORE POWER!!!

Thats sounds borring, every build would be the same. No FUN

Not true, it would still vary depending on which Class Mod you had equipped (i.e. which skills were boosted to an even higher level) and which other gear you were using. But at the same time, it would mean that you were REALLY well-prepared for the enemies you’d face in the 3rd playthrough!

What’s the difference between an “unnecessary grind” and a “necessary” one?
In my opinion it’s simply a matter of what’s fun to you, and having more reason to grind for better gear is a good thing. I get not wanting to get new versions of probably the same gear every few OP levels if that’s not your thing, but it adds more reason to play for the rest of us.

Maybe it’s just BL2 experience talking but I found TPS scaling to be too lax. My first character on UVHM went straight lines from one enemy to another while holding down fire button pointed to their head and then on to the next one. The kicker? I did this with a lvl 50 gun all the way up to lvl 64.
edit: I’m not even kidding. From HOH onwards I started literally doing that to see if I’d die if I just did that and nothing else. I killed everything. /edit
Granted it was a very powerful red text gun but I’m pretty sure I could’ve gone up to 70 like that if I just hadn’t picked up a new version of that same gun at that point. I did a lvl 70 99% quests playthrough (couldn’t bother with that bore of a raid) that I died 2-3 times in total. One of them even seemed more like a glitch than anything and one of the times was me experimenting with a greedy quick kill on a boss instead of just doing it like I normally do. TPS had nice buff to enemy shields but anything without a shield just melts like butter on a hot summer day. I want the challenge instead of auto-win because where’s the fun if you can’t fail?
I’m not saying it’s too easy because not everyone has these stupid amounts of hours in BL2 but throwing some optional OP levels on top of that sure would have gone a long way for me had they been available. It’s not like you need to play the game on OP levels if you don’t want to. If you enjoy it at 72 then just do that. You don’t need to follow the “youtube meta” which is a really nice term one person on these forums coined a couple of years ago.

A necessary one makes the game boring. An unnecessary one makes the game a test of patience… or is it the other way around?

Either you want to game to be really easy or so hard we need every skill. Neither of which sounds very fun

Honestly, that sounds… not great. I enjoy messing with builds and feeling like my skill point allocation actually matters. I don’t want the only difference between me and another person to be 20% HP and 36.8% explosive damage. I want to see them beating butt up close while I assault from mid. Diversity makes the game fun. Learning different playstyles and making different builds adds a decent amount of replayability to the game as well… if you don’t wanna constantly respec, that is.

Because the game never changed significantly from op1 to op8. Same content, same mechanics, same enemies, same end game builds. The only thing that changed was the level of the weapons.
I’m going to play at the highest level possible. Did I have more fun at op8 versus 72? No.

Honestly, I kinda feel both ways on this (what’s new, hahah). Like. Yeah, having a small amount of points to allocate to skills pushes you to either get good at a specific thing and stick to it…or be well rounded but not have some of the really cool stuff.
But then, I’m currently playing with double skill point mods because I don’t have the time to try to play with others right now and getting multiple capstones and game changers makes you feel lol the galaxy’s greatest bad ass.
But I did this with Skyrim too. I played and created the best character for my headcanon that I could…and then I got mods to make them my dream.
It’s so hard because balance is a great thing for a game to have…but you really do want all the skills too
I suppose there could be a middle ground (or just do mods like how we do). I wouldn’t nessesarily be opposed to a specific mode where you could theoretically earn enough points to fill all the skills. For the regular game? Nah. Bonus content? Meh, couldn’t hurt.

Right? Like. Let’s talk Gaige. Her “With Claws” is so cool, like…essential to the lore of the character…but it doesn’t have much OOMPH, nor does it synergize with…anything. And without Sharing Is Caring, DT is just a long delay decoy you can use.
BUT WAIT. To maximize With Claws, you want UpShot Robot. For the melee bonus per kill. But Upshot is Useless if DT doesn’t survive. So you need Sharing. BUT THEN, to really maximize Claws, you want Shock and Ahhhhh, Interspersed, and A solid set of Preshrunk.
…I think I derailed this train like my name was Mushy Snugglebites

Having a limited amount of skill points allows us to be creative with our builds and playstyle. This gives the game so much more replayability than just being able to get all the skills and everyone having a very similar build. Im glad that they seem to be giving the vault hunters multiple action skills because this just makes them more build versatile than the previous ones and I just can’t wait for them to reveal the skill trees. Damn I’m so hyped for the gameplay and info, why is time going so slowly?!

Thats why TPS has better skill trees. You can reach all three capstones and still have a lot different builds for the same character.
