Overwatch beta happening at Battleborn launch

I bet Blizzard would be pissed if Caldarius ever said “The Hive is under attack” in Battleborn. :joy:

It would be good if you took more care of your product! I own it with the season pass, and also a fanpage which I am trying to promote…but almost nobody is interested in this game!!!
I loved borderlands, I like battleborn, and I am witnessing this apocalyptic release with a sad / angry face.
I can easily point out a thing you didn’t give enough attention to, an uncompleted feature on your website, which would have let it promote it much better. Overwatch sure spent more cash in advertising, but people can easily see you didn’t put all your efforts into Battleborn!

Check this out:

He and maybe 2 or 3 more heroes, are the ONLY which have an attached youtube vid to show their skills. Why not the other’s? Any fan could do it with just an afternoon of work! In my case I wanted to periodically introduce a different character to my Battleborn fanpage, and link each skill with its video…but this is not possible. I can’t make free advertising on your game, because you left unfinished work there.
And I read you invested more cash here than anywere! I’m not just concerned for Battleborn, which is obviously failing on launch day (I will still enjoy it but I’m afraid it will be hard to find players to play with…), I am not sure if you will be able to make a great Borderlands 3 after this crash!
I like Battleborn a lot, I hate people saying “game is already dead” “game is gonna die soon” etc, they always say it with many games I own and it doesn’t happen, but with Battleborn I really think this is going to happen.
The lack of news related to this game prior to it’s launch, and after it, is amazing! So Gearbox do something with it, fast, and effective, because as an user I should’nt be concerned of my recently bought product success, but it’s an online game!

OverWatch is barely even on my radar.

Doesn’t fill the same niche for me. There are literally about 15+ games I’d play before it. Here is my current “todo list” in mostly priority but fuzzy after item 5. I’m on Xbox one. And yes much of this would be revisiting purchases I’ve already played.

Battleborn

Doom (2016)

Ark

Diablo 3

Destiny

Escapist walking dead

Deus ex X (whatever version was free for Xbox 360 on gold)

Rockband 4

Rockband 3

Rock smith

Borderlands 2

Borderlands TPS

Borderlands 1

Witcher 2 (was also free for Xbox gold)

Super Mario maker (Wii u)

Well. They did same thing with Diablo 3 beta over Torchight 2 (or 3 ? idk lol) release…

But… At least they’re trying hard to make their game famous, populated, push it hard, etc… In the end, it’s for the sake of Overwatch community.

Tried Overwatch beta… here is what I determined for myself. Battleborn > Overwatch. That is all, I think Overwatch might be good, but severely disliked some aspects to it and overall found myself enjoying character variety in Battleborn characters. Both within the game and within the characters.

I completely agree.

As I said in another thread, I played some of the Overwatch beta earlier and I’ll have another go again later. However I much prefer the style, pace, gameplay and humour of Battleborn.

It seems all this OW v. Battleborn talk may actually drawing attention to both games rather than keeping them isolated & separate, detracting one from the other.

I don’t think OW is better than battleborn. OW is however definitely a lot more polished. OW’s playstyle is less appealing to me and there is less to do, however, ow feels a lot better “moment-to-moment” as said in the IGN comparison. Battleborn really messed up the sound mixing in this game and attacks/skills don’t feel as impactful as they should. Even PvZGW2 does it better in that department.

Tried the OW beta last night myself. It’s actually not half bad. I found it a lot easier to jump into and play some casual pvp. Being able to change characters upon death and not having micromanage helix trees and loadouts was nice for a change. Matches are shorter, or mine were anyway. I’d say if you prefer longer matches that require more in depth preparation and tactics then BB is better, although I found myself getting burnt out on every game being so intense so OW was a fun break to just play around and spam attack buttons.

About the sound mixing, what parts are you referring to? The pacing of dialogue can be incongruous? in public story mode, but I found the pan effects of character speak volume relative to your reticule’s direction to be interesting and precise. Although I will say ghalt did sometimes sound to fluctuate in volume in a dialogue sequence (if my memory serves correctly), but what are you referring to? With headphones I can hear an enemy’s speak from behind and know time to go.

2 totally different games, similar hero concept, semi similar art direction, both great games but one is obviously more complex and densely layered. I’m of course referencing the MOBA variety. All this talk about ‘skill’ is represented in different ways for each game. BB’s strength relies on knowledge of how to setup and use your skill tree rank up options. Overwatch concentrates on more simplistic FPS skill sets like aiming and other general FPS common core structures. Once people give BB a in depth approach (enough time to learn how to apply/understand offense/defense skill tree assets) you will see the true skill style complexity. Not to mention when a fully aware/knowledgeable player community starts building this game is gonna get really intense!!
Overwatch is fun as hell and they really nailed the play style but it is a completely different game and a really good one at that.
To me it’s kinda like COD playstyle vs. Battlefield playstyle… both very good at what they do and both completely different games that should not be competing/compared.
Right now Battleborn is the most visually/action stimulated game I have ever played. I never have been a fan of MOBA games but BB has changed that for me by mixing FPS style (which is my fav)
just some thoughts from a 40 something year old gamer. Peace yall!

Disclaimer: I think battleborn is twice as good as overwatch at it’s best

Opinion: overwatch is gonna kill battleborn. It doesn’t matter if they aren’t the same game, when competitive multiplayer games compete for the money in your wallet at the exact same time one is going to beat out the other (have to get a solid player base early which is borderline impossible when a better alternative is released almost simultaneously).

Rationale: battleborn has a terribly bland campaign and a very bad multiplayer mode in meltdown. With only two maps in incursion (and I guess two for the other mode but I dunno), the experience is way too lean for a 60 dollar game (with most likely maps coming as paid dlc). On top of this the matchmaking is horrendous. Too slow to get into games and when you do get in people drop out and you are stuck down a man or waiting through an entire match for the next one. Plus, squads aren’t evened out in terms of level making it extremely unlikely to ever get balanced teams (unless you form a party and wreck).

Solution: two possiblities, both which suck for you guys at gearbox, but at least one needs to happen to save this gem before it gets obliterated. 1) fix the freaking matchmaking right meow. Halo on last gen consoles had better matchmaking than this bull crap. The speed in which you get into matches for overwatch are almost too fast (sometimes in 5-10 seconds). 2) drop the price. This game right now isn’t worth 60 dollars (or the 100 or whatever for the bogus extra skins for that matter). This needs to be at most 40 to match overwatch, although with how bad matchmaking is and lack of multiplayer maps it is really worth less than that when compared to overwatch.

I want to play this game, I really freaking do, but I don’t want to sit and watch a loading screen for an hour and think to myself “why did I spend 60 bucks for nothing” while I pass the time playing hearthstone and get ready to boot up overwatch.

I don’t play pvp much. Like, at all. Actively avoid it. But I don’t mind it in battleborn. I only like incursion though tbh. I didn’t notice too much of a problem with match making until I had a crack st the overwatch beta the other day (I was feeling bold after enjoying pvp for the first time ever lol) and HOLY MC’ ■■■■ ING ■■■■ BALLS there is a huge difference. I’m having so much frustration with battleborn servers just letting me access the game or the command menu, let alone match making. OW beta had me matched and in game so easy. And I love that if someone drops out, they just drop another queued player straight in. I don’t understand why battleborn didn’t implement these seemingly obvious designs.

I’m curious, if you think Battleborn is over priced, then you must believe OW is insanely priced even more so on consoles. With less than twice the content it should be $20

P.s. I’ve had zero problems with matchmaking on ps4. It loads quite quickly.

Been playing Overwatch for the longest time. Started playing Battleborn. Cancelled pre-order on Overwatch. Overwatch is over-hyped, over-priced, and just another money grubbing Blizzard scheme. I mean if its your deal then sure play Overwatch but considering Overwatch will have micro-transactions and has an even worse matchmaking system for ranked, I imagine that everyone will have similar opinions soon.

I didn’t want to start a new thread just for this. Here seemed a reasonable place to post. TotalBiscuit has just published his take on the BB vs OW “controversy” and it is, by far, the most informative and neutral of those I’ve read/watched.

OW is very polished and simple. Nothing really new here, just well done.

Yep, OW is good fun. Gonna play it til the beta ends. Don’t want to miss a full game demo.
