Battleborn and Overwatch are both the types of games where you have to be in a certain mood to play one or the other and I know this because it happens to me a lot. It’s impossible to say the population has dropped without numbers per say but it’s also impossible to claim it hasn’t dropped. It’s a back and forth battle but one thing I do know however is that while Overwatch has shorter “bare bone” matches it also supplies a more enjoyable game experience for those who don’t have a lot of friends to play with compared to Battleborn where friends are more needed in the sense of teamwork.
I find myself playing Overwatch more slowly and slowly because I don’t have many friends to group up with and with Overwatch they do a great job of closing in their maps into small segments everyone will be fighting in making teamwork a hard thing to not accomplish even if you don’t have a party and a mic at the ready.
While this is a bad place to say it I do believe you are not giving Overwatch enough credit for what it does do well.
I don’t think Overwatch is that amazing of a game at the moment. I think the Blizzard fan boys have gone nuts with the praise. Angry Joe just did a review of OW and pointed out it’s flaws. He gave it a 7/10. His comments were full of posts where people were hating on him and saying how they are unsubbing.
Everyone is giving Overwatch 10/10. Ignoring the lack of story, the repetitive gameplay. None of OW story is in the game. When Destiny put most of it’s story on Bungie website people were raising hell. So saying Overwatch is getting more praise than it deserved, isn’t a stretch.
As a solo gamer, OW will soon get to the point that without a skilled team of friends you’re gonna get stomped over and over. Being a skilled solo player isn’t enough to carry a team in Overwatch, like in TF2.
There is a difference between fanboys and people who enjoy the game but it seems anyone who likes something is going to be a fanboy.
Of course Overwatch has flaws, what game doesn’t have flaws? He also gave Battleborn the same rating and I agree with both like I said they are for different people and different moods.
In a world of trolls and the internet it’s impossible to get into a medium where people don’t want to spread some sort of negativity so the people saying they are going to unsub tell me how many of them actually did?
Paid game reviewers are giving Overwatch a 10/10* While the average user score on Metacritic is 7.3 and the user score for battleborn is a 7.2 which are ideally the exact same with the only difference being Overwatch has 2,000 ratings and Battleborn has just over 300.
Yes but Battleborn story consists of just horde defense and escort missions which are hardly not repetitive and lacking. The missions you follow in this game do not really link together for it to make sense to have them in Episodes of a certain order because none of the Episodes ever talk about a previous mission you did.
The reason people are going crazy over Destiny putting the story in the website is because Destiny was suppose to HAVE a story, Overwatch was advertised and shipped with just multiplayer in mind and players knew that before purchase. It’s not like Destiny where the players felt betrayed.
I also hear that Overwatch is going to be adding in a ranked competitive type mode for players of that type meaning that the quick play system is not going to be as tainted with pre-mades as Battleborn is now. Even with the low time to kill in Overwatch a pre-made is a lot easier to face in general. Nobody can really solo carry a match but to think that just because people are not in a party and do not have mics does not mean they cannot function as a good team.
OW had more people buy at release and from what I’ve seen and heard about it (I haven’t actually played it) it is great at what it was trying to do which is create a polished fast paced shooter that is fun for a lil while and will get stale quickly…i honestly think that has alot to do with being able to change characters mid game everybody will have that one character they will go back to in every game which eventually will burn people out on it and the number of people playing will slowly start to fade. Where as BB didn’t sell as much at release but has a dedicated fan base who really loves this game and will keep playing for a long time. playing with different characters makes every match unique and with the different modes and characters coming its a game that could be around for a long time but will never see the amount of player OW did at its peak unfortunately
I really like Overwatch but for all its characters it’s lacking in personality and really starts to come of as sterile. Kills are boring. no one blows up into meaty chunks. Hell, sometimes I couldn’t tell you if I have even killed anyone without checking the scoreboard.
TF2, from which it heavily borrows right down to the engineer, has 10 times the personality in its hats alone.
Fun game, though.
Nice to see Angry Joe at least gave OW an unbiased review with a 7/10 - the same score he gave BB.

OW is Twilight popular, not Harry Potter popular.
Or if you prefer musical analogies, OW is Justin Beiber popular, not Paul McCartney popular.
That’s not to say OW isn’t popular. It’s MASSIVELY popular, just like the Twilight and Beiber. It just doesn’t have the staying power of the other two.
And that’s also not to say BB is the flip-side of those analogies. Time will tell if BB has long endurance legs. The potential is there, but it’s a steep uphill climb.
I like them both… BB & OW
I think if you just approach them as ‘games’ and not the ‘this and that’ of reviews and fan commentary, they are both fun…
I think either can be played in long or short periods, depending on your attention span…
Play all the things, and if you like it or lump it… That’s cool

I wish.
I’m still stuck with impossibly long queues. Sometimes it just feels like it’s never gonna get me a game. Is my MMR that high? Dunno, can’t check it out.

I mean, in the last 24 hrs we hit a concurrent peak of 2,290 players on Steam. On the other hand, OW has just banned 1,572 accounts from China alone this week. A drop of a few thousand is not felt in OW at all while it’s painfully obvious in here

I like Overwatch because I can just shut off my brain and play and never give a damn about the outcome of the game. Win or lose I don’t really care. It’s a good game for a few quick matches. game I can play without getting stressed. A good game for me to play with friends. I doubt I’ll ever play it without at least one friend hopping in game with me though.
On the other hand Battleborn just sucks me in. Try as I might I can’t seem to remain uninvested in the outcome of a match. I want to do well. I feel like I am part of a team and I want to do well so I help out the team. I don’t feel detached at all from the entire process. It just sucks me in. Sure, it can be stressful sometimes, but when I do well I feel so damn good.

How about Sports?
OW is Alex Rodriguez while Battleborn Manny Machado
BTW…if you don’t follow Baseball…Machado is probably the BEST of the 3 young superstars in Baseball…
Trout, Harper and Machado (but Machado does not get the press time the others do…strangely)
Battleborn will stick and tries hard to be all things to all people. (PvP, PvE, private play, group play, solo play…you name it) I think it actually succeeds admirably. And as long as good DLC keeps coming and they keep up their commitment to improve the game.
It will be a success.
As big as BL2 was? No…IMHO
But BL2 had it’s own niche for a year and a half BEFORE Destiny. There was nothing like it and is filled with oodles of replayability.
Battleborn has to compete with OW, Smite, etc…in a genre that is kinda full right now.

Even if Battleborn ends up like Evolve, I will do what I’ve been doing with Evolve, and keep playing until I’m the last one on.

I think Gearbox learned a lot from BL2 I remember Pitchford talking about how the number of players was spiking like a year after its release when most games have died out. I think they’re pretty good at parking out dlcs and stuff so I wouldn’t be surprised if Battleborn has more sustain. I’miss sure they took the lessons they learned from BL2 and had a long term game plan in mind especially with the two releases so close together.
Oh man, not Evolve lol! That game was a trash heap from the jump. Anyone that played the beta knew it was a high graphic game of hide and seek.
I admire your determination, but Evolve is not worth going down with the ship.
Currently I think BB needs atleast a small boost to ad time/space. Overhyping a game is bad. But not putting its name out there enough is just as bad if not worse.
We don’t want to force BB down everyone’s throat like Blizzard is doing with Overwatch currently. But we need people to hear about the game in other forms than people bashing it on forums and social media or from biased magazines/ gaming sites.
I don’t think I’ve seen a single BB commercial on TV since Overwatch launched. There weren’t that many before then either.
Another idea would be figuring out a way to have some fun events in BB. Double EXP was nice. TBH I wish I was still getting character exp at double rate. Command rank goes up fast enough as is.
However I was thinking more like either community events such as collectively kill a total of 100 million minions as a playerbase and everyone get a reward skin or taunt or something.
Or level theme changes for major holidays or randomness of spawning crossovers from other gearbox games like say a bonerfart infestation. (Yes I know that isn’t what they are really called but I like that name better.)
Is there really Elo in this game? I heard someone in a game say there was when we were waiting like 30 mins for a game earlier this morning.
I have seen a lot of new players on PS4. I joined matchmaker and 2 guys were talking on the mic about just getting Battleborn. It was funny cause I was lvl 84 and they were like, " Hey level 84 guy don’t leave. We just got the game but we are good, don’t worry. " I told them I wasn’t gonna leave and we had a great game. We did win. Glad to see new players.

That really makes me want to get Battleborn even more right now! The sale is going well on PS4 I assume. If I wasn’t so damn busy right now Id get the digital deluxe right away. 50€ is a good deal for a new game.
