That’s awesome - HL2 and BL2 merging! Imagine the possibilities.
The fact that those .sav files were associated with HL2 shouldn’t make a difference to your ability to open them though - if they were corrupted then you wouldn’t see them in your game. So as long as you have those 8 (?) characters to choose from, the files are intact.
Unfortunately, digging further into this will likely break forum rules - so you might have to punt this over to the Steam forum. A possible solution though would be to uninstall HL2 from your PC.

Now that is bizarre. Without hands on, I couldn’t really begin to help. And that’s definitely against the rules to be discussed here.
but, first things first - delete all the regular save files, or move them to the desktop, whatever. and rename all the .bak files to .sav. Report back.

Out of curiosity, I just looked at my BL2 and TPS saves and they’re all shown as Portal2 saves. I half-suspect that it’s just a harmless Steam glitch, since I know that both sets are fine.

When you say, “open it”, are you trying to open the save game file by double-clicking on it, or Borderlands 2 does not recognize them as save game files from within the game?

I too would like to know this. Or are you perhaps trying to open them outside the game?
