When you’re low on health, retreat. Don’t port back in the corner like you used to back before he came back. You can still see him, and there’s multiple characters that uncloak/reveal him. I have yet to see a really good Pendles, and even after playing him, he just doesn’t seem like a great character. By saying you’re not prepared is your biggest flaw. Expect his slow, and be prepared to run. Don’t try to fight him if you’re not at full health and aren’t a DPS character, or don’t have your skills up.
I seem to run into great Pendles. He wrecks us.
And if you retreat, he kills you quick in my experience. I don’t back into corners ever, I try to regroup with teammates. That just seems to kill us all instead.
I see you made Pendles your nemesis, but you should cosider that new players will have issues with (almost?) every character played by someone who plays him often & well.
you´ll struggle same with a good played rival
-Gal
-Rath
-Thorn
-Ghalt
-Marquis
-Alani
-Phoebe
-Ben
just to name some other popular nemesis-Battleborn.
My personal nemesis is Ghalt, he gets me all the time, but I highly highly doubt its because he is OP.
I bet I get killed equally often by Reyna, I just don´t focus on her, but on my nemesis: Ghalt.
Perspective and focus make alot here.
What I try to say is: everyone is a beginner at the beginning and I bet every BB-player has his own nemesis-BB he wants to see nerfed and gone. That does not mean explicitly that those nemesis-chars are truly OP.
For you its Pendles, for others its Alani or Gal, for me its Ghalt.

PS: not enough coffee, to many typos >.<
I literally had no problem with any other character. I was having fun learning the game. Then this unbalanced character shows up and just… Good bye fun.
He is not my nemesis. He is fundamentally changing the game I was trying to learn. I mean my attitude towards this game has went from day to night. It first it was fun and the characters seemed maybe a bit off but somewhat balanced.
But then Pendles came and the fun I was having stopped real quick. So either I learn or I go to straight PvE, or just quit until it is sorted out, which may be never.
Pendles is pretty balanced ATM.
Stealth and gangky
But yet squishy.
He does add another dimension. You are right about that, but he is not unbalanced at all. Personally I don’t think it will be “sorted out” because as of right now, he is balanced and well designed.
If you’re playing on Xbox, I’d love to play a game with you and show you how I’ve been countering him. If not, then really the best thing I can give you for advice is: Back up when he uncloaks, run through other friendly’s, turrets, minions, etc. They will keep him I cloaked and slowed. If you’re playing a slower character, you will have trouble, but a vast majority of the characters are quick or have an escape skill. If you still are having trouble, play a character that has a reveal.
What characters have you been playing? There’s obviously some that will be countered by him but that applies to any character
Also pendles countering pendles is nice. I always wait for the enemy pendles to attack and then I hit them with injection to prevent them from killing the target.
As others have said, this game can be tough on beginners. As others have said, hang in there. Also, I know from other posts that you’ve been using Phoebe. I love Phoebe – super fun character; she’s one of the first characters I mastered. But she’s tough to use as a beginner. You may want to consider using some characters that are harder for Pendles to take down. Several characters have pushes that can move you out of Pendles range (Benedict with lift off; Orendi with nullify etc.). Others can stun or pop up like Rath, Kelvin, Isic.
Someone like Caldarius with his double jump is too fast for Pendles to finish off even if he gets the drop on you. I started working on Caldarius around the same time Pendles came off and because he is so elusive, I’ve had no issues with Pendles.
Finally, if you want to stick with Phoebe, think about using her Phasegate defensively instead of offensively. You can teleport away from Pendles pretty easily, especially if you use the helix option that grants her 30% movement speed to get away.
Good luck – I hope you stick with it. I’ve found this game very rewarding.
I am on PC. I have tried Phoebe, Rath, Thorn, Oscar Mike. I am new. And again, you would be in a line of many people who have given me this advice. It is not working for me. I just think I am not that good.
Phoebe should be able to take him, yet he always kills me. Gear can make a big difference on him. Raise his health. All that.
I am just frustrated.
I don’t think I am going to be sticking around but thanks. He just changed the game too much for me. As a beginner, it sucked the fun right out.
I don’t know if I like flying characters and all that. I am just very frustrated. I have never had a character in a game frustrate me the way this one has.
I find this as my best option, I have the 30% movement speed on phasegate and shield regen, once I get jumped I phasegate away and check him out, if he is ulted I can kite him with his low movement speed, if he isn’t he is now unstealthed and easy prey.
I use that too. I am new. You are not. So it just does not work for me. And I have never found an unstealthed Pendles to be easy prey. All he has to do is round a corner and… Gone.
I have looked at her Helix. I have picked what I believed to be good against him. Anyway, I am just not going to get better at this game at this moment.
Even if he used his ultimate and injected you in the back with all back attack bonuses, he can’t deal that much damage. Pendles is great at eliminating snipers and low health Battleborn.
Reveal doesn’t work that may, pal. Orendi and Ambra have massive reveal AoEs and Whiskey’s got a damage amp on his reveal. Pendles is incredibley slow when out of cloak, He’s only slightly faster than montana.
Stick together, and do this if you hear him, or see the shimmer (which is incredibly easy to see if you look for it) Callout his position>Reveal>Silence(optional)>FOCUS FIRE. Seriously, pendles has around 1500 health at level 10. If he’s visible, FOCUS FIRE. Make sure anyone with a gun is shooting at him, he’ll die in 2 seconds, I promise.
You are right. I wouldn’t call a good Pendles player easy pray. However, just because he isn’t easy prey, doesn’t mean you have to be. Don’t worry about killing him, per se. Worry about figuring out ways to keep yourself alive. That’s just as helpful to your team. Listen for the audio queues of when he’s coming and practice your escapes as me and others have discussed. If Pendles is wasting time unsuccessfully hunting you, he’s not helping his team clear lanes.
You know. Maybe I need more of a primer of MOBA mechanics and tactics. It is my first one. I have never been so frustrated learning a game in my 30+ years of playing video games.
But it seems like things that would make sense to counter him don’t work. And it is had to keep a pug team together. Hell, talking into the mic sometimes is talking to air.
Not that Pendles didn’t mess me up. But what I think is unbalanced people think is fine. So there is a disconnect somewhere that has not clicked for me yet.
From my experience (I’m at Lvl. 14 with Pendles) the best counter is Orendi. Her shadowfire pillar reveal AOE is pretty big. This coupled with how quick her cooldown is, she can shut down any characters that rely on cloak (Pendles, Deande, OM etc.). Even without someone with reveal, good Pendles players are usually lurking behind you waiting for you to overextend. Play cautious and if you’re taking damage be aware of your surrounding and expect him to pop up.
My main strategy is to watch the enemy team. The second one breaks off or runs low on health, I pounce. I’ve been shut down by teams that don’t break off. Even two BB can easily push back a Pendles (note that I said push back, not kill). Also, any character with a decent slow or stun will make Pendles completely useless. If you slow him while he’s cloaked, he moves about as fast as he would uncloaked. Plus, you get the slow visuals to give away his position. The reason you’re having such a hard time adapting to him is because he plays completely different than any other BB. He adds a unique gameplay style.
Edit: Also, watch for Pendles to take out buildables. You can use these to bait him out.
Yeah, and the way he plays kind of killed the fun. But thank you.
Final suggestion: Join the Battleborn Discord. There are plenty of experienced people who will be, I’m sure, more than willing to party up and help you. The game has a really great community that’s always willing to help in some way.
Idk how to emphasize this enough. Try Ambra. She’s most likely his hardest counter, very rewarding to play as you can have good kills, healing, minions, and damage. And she’s quite possibly a lil op.
Well I took your advice and joined Discord. Not sure how to interact there yet but we will see if it helps any.
