Pendles first impressions!

Hmmm? Do you have proof that this happened? Also his ape does 24 damage a second it’s only really good because you can use injection 3 times in it. Still not enough to melt 3k hp

I’ve already got pendles legendary I posted it in a thread that I just called" I have acquired pendles legendary" I don’t know how to link threads sorry

Immediate new favorite. Sorry Benedict.

How the heck do you quote?

It was 3k in an AoE.

Anyways, a few more matches and I think the problem is that for all mobile DPS like Thorn and Cal, Pendles is like a Rath except you can’t see him coming. Imagine if Rath could go invisible. It’s what it feels like, he hard counters ranged DPS (And I bet melee dps too if they don’t have tournament level reactions) so very hard. He can, at any time of his choosing, kill a ranged DPS and there is nothing you can do to stop him unless you stick right next to your team at all times.

Considering I play Thorn and Cal most often, today has been an exercise in frustration. I had a match as thorn where all my deaths were purely pendles dropping on me.

He feels less squishy than Thorn, marquis, or even a rath for sure, but that might just be because once he’s done pushing your ■■■■ in, he stealths and you can’t peg his last few HP down like you can with… almost any other character.

Also, he makes deande obsolete.

So, in summary, he acts as a hard counter to too many chars while have no real counters himself because his almost perma stealth. A char that would be able to kill him will simply never see him

Ambras solar wind can reveal enemies, a specific character is not needed to counter him. His sneeky snekyness adds way more usefulness to other types of helix builds. Now we have to think just a little more about our helix choices.

Someone posted about using Toby to effectively counter. Some of the other characters also have reveal options, don’t they?

Noticed his background color on his card is brown like an Eldrid, the OCD in me wants it to be the Rogue orange.

So far love pendles…however some things that are annoying in PvP. He has no counter to his constant stealth. I can literally see him standing in corners…im shooting him and he stays stealthed. I think it stealth SHOULD break, even ifs a 1/2 second. Attacking the player should cause them to run away. People who play him just stand there invisible. And if they have the spec for 30% less damage in stealth…blegh. Also tried to counter him as Reyna. Shot him with priority target (still stealth) and spec so they pulse cannon home in on him and…nothing it wont track him. I think this is a bug. If he stays stealthed it should still track him. Im gonna try Toby next. He has a spec. to see invisible characters…i BET that wont work either. Either way fun new character. Hope it pulls in new players.

:stuck_out_tongue: Toby is, far as I can tell, still not very good. I’m not sure what he can do to pendles except run the fook away.

He certainly is not a counter to Pendles, nor is Orendi, nor is Ambra.

Pendles is screwed by Toby and ambra they can both see through his cloak and destroy him.

IDK if you’ve tried them against him, but it’s kinda a joke. I just see a shimmer, use my revealing skill, and pour in. He’s too slow to get away, and injection is not enough to save him when they all don’t need attack speed to kill. Just Orendi can burst him with enough beefed up Pillar madness.

Unfortunately for some reason plasma pulses don’t home in on characters that become stealthed. Which is odd cause they still have the priority target arrow on them when cloaked and possess an outline so imo there is no reason that the pulses shouldn’t home. Have had many an Oscar mike get away because of that. I guess that means that you should take the slow instead? I personally hate the slow tho

Without looking into it too deeply characters that can either detect or cancel stealth:

Ambra
Toby
Orendi
Marquis
Whiskey Foxtrot
Reyna (though this may be bugged)

So 5/6 characters that can reveal him, not to mention other methods of dealing with stealth since he isn’t truly invisible. How do you handle a 11 second stealth S&A?

Now how many of those characters have a way to detect stealth that isn’t easily avoided or requires knowledge that pendles is already there?

Ambra’s is a given since it’s a helix choice that many take even in PvE, and she will have sunspots down everywhere.
Toby’s reveals by aiming down the sights, which is something you would assume he would do quite a bit.
Orendi’s is by casting shadowfire pillar, something she should be doing all the time.
Whiskey Foxtrot’s is with scrap trap and is a helix choice that many would already take for the extra damage.
Reyna’s is her priority target without a helix choice.
Marquis is the worst since he doesn’t get it until 10, but it he will see Pendle when he uses his Ult.

So out of 6 characters, 3 will show you automatically without knowing that he is there beforehand (5 if you happen to be fighting when he shows up and he gets hit with a AoE), and easily avoided is a very subjective term (for example are Ambra’s sunspots easy to avoid?) but 3 of them show him on their screen and thus can’t be avoided without him not being there.

I disagree with Ambra not being a counter. Perhaps not a direct/hard counter, but her playstyle is counter to his.

Typically Ambra should always have one Sunspot somewhere behind cover as a healing source to fall back to, and she should be placing another on minion waves or enemies at all times. Ambra doesn’t have access to reveal until level 6, but Pendles is best late game and Ambra is one of the fastest levelers anyway. Until then, she has knockback on Solar Wind at level 4 which she can use to repel melee attackers, and if she’s ranked high enough her level 4 mutation is the largest AoE pushback in the game so no melee is going to sneak up on her without being blown away and revealed, and depending on your level 1 choice (always take L) either debuffed or hit with DoT. Melee assassins take heavy damage to Ambra, she can heal herself while damaging AND debuffing you all at once. If anything, Ambra is perhaps the best counter to Pendles in the game.

As for Orendi, her reveal at level 1 is now almost mandatory if Pendles is on the enemy team - which he will be because he’s new - and she’s one of the highest burst damagers in the game, few can survive a Shadowfire-Paradigm-Shadowfire hattrick, and Pendles is no exception just because he can cloak.

More often than not, if you want to get to Ambra you’ll have to get through her Sunspots. And you hardly require knowledge that he’s there, he’s cloaked not totally invisible and even if he does get the drop on you you just hit him with (if you or your team has one) a revealing ability/skill then everybody can converge on him.

With the recent patch, wound is now almost mandatory on a meta team, and now with the release of Pendles reveal has become an integral status effect as well. If you don’t get Pendles, get someone who can reveal because you know he’ll be on the enemy team.

I had pretty much this same experience from a PvE perspective, down to the instance I was in and the fact that OP is a dickbag for getting all the good loot :stuck_out_tongue:

The other thing I’ll add is that in my game I was pendles and my only partner was an orendi.

To that effect, I’ll say that unless my partner is a tank, I don’t really want to play pendles in PVE in any group smaller than 4. Because I kept wanting to be stealthed and behind my target, I ended up putting orendi in a lot of really ■■■■■■ positions that that character was never intended for.

Injection > Smoke Bomb > Injection is a powerful combo that put some serious damage even on MK Elite bots, but I feel like in a 2-3 person group pendles is just putting his people at too much of a disadvantage.

On the pro side, just like other stealthers, he can revive while stealthed, so he’s kind of the closest thing to a “wipe guard” in that sense.

Yeah I don’t even want to play PVP with the way Pendle’s stealth is now.

Status effects also do a good job at revealing a stealthed Pendles. Slows, bleeds, and dot will always be visible, so the amount of people who can reveal Pendles is much greater the than 6.

Figured I will put my two cents in on Pendles. Was only able to get in 2 matches as Pendles in online PvP due to my slightly slower load time. In all? Well balanced in my opinion. My only gripe with him so far is that the 20 kills while miasma is active won’t count assists like other lore challenges due now. Only have 2 but got up to 12 assists with it. All in all awesome job GB!
