Pendles; omgwtf

I haven’t played against many pendles players yet but what I did find useful was AOE simply to tag him.

Then you just see this bright red outline of a snake who thinks he is cloaked haha

Still kind of strange the possible has no cooldown though but that is kind of a invalid point she he can be easily countered

the +100 % works well on pendles in conjunction with lvl 1 reveal and burn. why knock him away where you dont know where he’ll go? you mae easily knock him behind cover into cloak. if pendles is so brave -or stupid- to challenge ambra, he should die every time, especially with the new sunspot mechanic and extended beam.

Every time I use that mutation… I feel like Gandalf

I don’t understand this AT ALL. Okay, here’s this unique new character who I don’t know how to counter yet because, well, he’s new and unique. Oh no that one guy that one time was better than me no wait he wasn’t he was just using a better character than me NERF BECAUSE I WAS OUTPLAYED!

I know the playerbase is small, but sometimes I wish it was a lot smaller… -_-

Personally, I don’t see him as “OP” persay. I was lucky enough that I got a PVP lobby where I was able to have 4 hours of Pendles straight, and I was on both sides of the spectrum. I had a game where I was 27-1 and basically was able to demolish and entire enemy team with little effort, and other games where I died the second I tried anything. What I’ve learned is that Pendles is a character who is very very good against teams that either don’t know him, or can’t function enough to take him out. He also seems to have a rather strong late game in my opinion. But even so, he’s not impossible to kill under any circumstances.

Played roughly 10 games since I last posted here. All of them had Pendles (of course).

With certain characters you need to be absolutely sure you have nearby teammates, because he can burst down low-health characters real quick. Other characters it’s not as necessary, but you’ve still gotta be on point with your counter-attack. The good ones will get away after a failed assassination most of the time (because, like a good assassin, they pick their spots).

I ended up dropping my -CC loadouts pretty quick. His TTK against most characters is just too low for it to matter.

One thing I noticed is that while Pendles on his own certainly keeps you on your toes, it’s the Pendles + Rath or Pendles + Galilea that are truly nightmarish to play against. Got absolutely rekt by pre-mades that ran these comps.

Still don’t have a fully formed opinion on him though, since it’s only day one, and I still haven’t used him.

Played a few matches today after work Pendles is definitely fun to play as but against I’m constantly looking out for him, pretty distracting lol. One match I used orendi and decided on going right lvl1 instead of firewalk so I can spot him and it worked out fine in fact I became his babe that match. My other notable match is where I saw an issue, could have been matchmaking but this dude sneaked into our first sentry and soloed it albeit the sentry only lost 12 health but damn… Inevitable that he will be patched one way or another for better or for worse like others have said time will fix this

My main problem with Pendles so far is the fact that you can’t get him out of stealth. His passive even says he goes invisible until spotted. With an unlimited amout of stealth (I don’t mind that at all please don’t nerf it) it needs ways of negating it. I think they need to put a limit on our pings per min or something and allow us to ping him out of stealth (with almost pinpoint accuracy to keep it fair) or allow us to deal a set amount of damage to him to get him out of stealthm otherwise he can spawn camp WAY too easily. Having two ways to stealth too makes him good at camping from the turrets in Meltdown (which became very annoying very quickly). He’s not hard to scare of (if the person playing him is smart enough to not take you on with no health).

Honestly with him being the first practically perma-stealth character he is very new and can be difficult to counter for some, but he’s not OP. His damage is pathetic, which makes his life stealth more or less to just keep him slightly alive longer in head to head combat. If anything needs nerfed on him it’s the steath, and not by duration but by how we can uncloak him, unless you want to run with WF, Orendi or Ambra in every match.

I don’t see anything else OP with this character other than that. His health pool is low, shield is low, he moves like a snail when uncloaked, his damage (as stated above) is pretty pathetic unless he’s got the back stab helix, and even then it’s not overpowering.

It’s a great addition. This character along with the new map teach the players to be more aware of their surroundings. Hopefully, more players also pay more attention to the mini map located at the top right corner of their screen. I hate to see level 100’ players that still haven’t learn this simple skill. They get their sentry attacked by a single Oscar mike or double trolls and fail to realize it until their sentry is destroyed.

If people are complaining about getting ganked by Pendles from behind when in a group fight then they need to rethink things a bit. If you’re getting ganked from behind then you’re probably already in a situation that you shouldn’t have been in the first place. Group encounters are risky enough as is. This just adds a new level of danger to those encounters so you’re going to have to play smarter and more cautiously now. Maybe that’s a problem for some people. Some people don’t want to use strategy and just want to rely on their twitch skills to save them. Of course there are others who are the opposite and expect their strategies to work everytime and don’t have the skills to seal the deal. Either way this game isn’t easy mode and people are going to have to adapt or die.

From my experience both playing Pendles and against Pendles they seem pretty well balanced so far. Not like Alani was when she was first released. When I played her I knew the nerfs were coming because she felt like she had a little too much oomph behind her. Same with Galilea. At any rate I say we give it some time and give people time to adjust to Pendles being in the mix. Gearbox will sort things out in due time after they collect some data. I suspect they’re going to have a harder time trying to balance Benedict at this point than Pendles. Benedict seems a bit tricky.

Seemingly a minor point, but the most important point to me in any discussion regarding this game. This is not a twitch shooter, it’s virtual chess in real time. Pendles is just a new piece on the board.

On the hard mode note, I think Benedict was perfectly balanced before but now he’s over the top. Being the only character capable of (limited) flight gives him a big advantage but he also has a very high skill cap to compensate, and that’s where the balance lies. High risk, high reward. With extra health and huge damage now even a mediocre Benedict player can be a major threat, he can kill many characters in one Hawkeye cycle. I’d personally like to see him reverted back to vanilla Benedict.

I think the developers may have been trying to make him a bit more user friendly for the average player. As it is he is quite the niche character. Only a few people can use him well and so the rest of them do quite poorly with him and as a result stop playing him. So the trick is going to trying to find a way to make him work for both groups. Either that or they decide to just keep him as he was, only good in the hands of a few.

I think this is it too. As a friend put it, they evaluate data and see that the average Benedict player underperforms, this makes the average performance of the character seem poor, but what they may not have realised it is that there are a few who truly excel with him and they’re now the terrorists of Battleborn. I get wanting him to be user friendly, but he’s just not. The same goes for Deande, I called it long ago and now she’s been over-buffed and that sh*ts me. At least Ambra is to the point of perfection now, it’s been a long journey for her.

Anyway this is way off topic lol, but yeah good talk.

Just gotta fix Benedicts reload animation, put the att damage back to where it was & I don’t care if he keeps the health, he is easy to kill either way

LOL

I had him follow me away from a fight and he must have thought I didn’t “see” him. I was playing el dragon. I knew he was following me. Dragon splashed on him cloaking and it was all over. I think it surprised him to since we were so far away from combat. I was acting like I was getting shards. I don’t taunt much, but I felt in that instance it needed it. damnit. I should have recorded that one. LOL

I’m sure people will be crying for nerfs. Not because Pendles is OP but because…people like to cry for nerfs. I am curious, though, to see what exactly people will ask be nerfed. I doubt they’ll change his perma stealth as that seems to be the entire backbone of the character. His health and shield are already super low. His throwing star is really slow and doesn’t do much damage.

Also, I’ve noticed that if I’m playing as Pendles, I find it really easy to see another cloaked Pendles. Maybe it’s just the fact that I’m “clear” so nothing else on my screen is really catching my eye? IDK.

One thing I do find odd about his helix are his level 7 options. I kinda…hate both options, lol. left side gives you the option to jump higher. I don’t personally care about jumping higher but for people who want that, having to wait until level 7 to get it seems…extreme. The other option is to throw 3 stars instead of one. I usually choose this option just because I don’t care about the other one, not because I’m throwing stars all over the place.
lol

Lv 7 “coiled spring” is awesome. I won’t spoil the fun but it’s time to put the thinking cap on :grimacing:

Hes a pup stomper, I DONT THINK HES GOING TO DO TO MUCH IN COMPETITIVE PLAY

Do what I do. During queuing or the map selection screen I hit the push-to-talk button and say, “Yo, I wanna run X, anyone have a problem w/ that?”
