People say this game is not worth "full price"

There is more fees to run an online game.

gearbox also has to pay for the hardware to run the matches, the internet bandwidth to so we can connect to there servers
staff to patch the game, staff for customer service.

so when there’s a fee for new content for a new map for 5$ im happy to pay

my guess to run just what i said could probably cost up to $10,000 to $20,000 a month (hardware employe fees, bandwidth)

they have ongoing running cost to keep the game running

would anyone who is avid in the field of running servers be able to do an educated cost what it cost to run gaming servers on this scale?

Not to mention that Free 2 play as an asterix attached that says Pay 2 Win.
Which GBX wants to avoid.

I feel that because they decided to split their game into PvE and PvP that those who like one and not the other feel the price is not worth it. I know that other games (both starting with a D) do that as well but I have to tell you that I waited or will wait until the price drops before I bought these because I knew I would only be playing half the game.

That is my special circumstance but from other posts and boards of which I participate, I have seen that explanation as well. I understand your justification for their total game price and the considerations of how to keep it running. I am telling you that for me, I can not justify that price when I will only playing part of the content.

A distinction does need to be made that the game IS worth it’s full price, but that specific individuals might not he able to enjoy the entirety of it, making it less financially justdiable to them.

I would say it is not worth the price they are selling it at right now because it lacks certain elements. its trying to be both a first person shooter and a moba but lacks the money making elements of both that make people willing to shell out 60-75 dollars for a copy.

with mobas they can be free because they sell things like skins and other visual decorations that let them make money. while battleborn has this they are just recoloring’s of the starting skin and not really important. and they have item loot like a first person shooter but its behind a grind heavy level wall that may turn off certain parties. and many people would argue that the maps shown in the beta had balance and design issues.

on top of that gear box has a history of hit and miss when it comes to games, so that combined with the other issues I mentioned and other that I did not makes it so people are less inclined to pay the 60-75 dollars for this game.

There are other, more complex, skin types, they just weren’t available to players during the beta.

  1. Only skins in beta were recolors, there are others available at launch.

  2. How is gear behind a level wall? Are you talking about the packs purchasable in the market place? You can also get those through story mode regardless of level.

and it would be nice if they advertised those facts somewhere. I did not see that information at all during the beta. and that brings up another point. their marketing is so non existent its going to hurt their sales just because it combined with this beta give the wrong Impression of this game

Still the skins availible during Beta should have been at least called pallets.

Yeah this.

For me I would not pay the pre-order price of $80 cause thats a bit ridicules for a game. I might consider buying it when it realeses for the release price but even then I am considering whether or not it is worth it To Me to buy the game.

I worked at a small mobile firm who handles the backend IT for a mobile game. Anyway that game’s server fee was 2 million per year. This is a game with a userbase around 2-3 million give or take.

Battleborn is using Microsoft servers I believe (same as Titanfall). I am not sure what their fees are per user; But it is likely the total sum is more than the entire payroll for all GBX employees.

The beta got me hooked. I pre-ordered on PS4. I’m normally all about the PC master race but I thought it would be nice to have something I could play while chilling out on the couch.

I expect the full game will have several new maps and characters to master for each game type. I feel like I’ll get my moneys worth.

That’s a fair point, IMO, and I have commented on it a number of times. Relates to a few other things as well, like Toby only being available on PS4, there being no matchmaking, etc.

Having said that, I think arguing the semantics over whether or not a palette change is or isn’t really a skin is kind of silly.

hearing stories like this really fascinate me. I love learning more how the back end works and there running cost. giving out something for free is really not free for someone elseXD

this game is making me consider getting the Steam link to play on the couch
