If I can make a few comments, as a person who played a lot of borderlands and battleborn beta I would only pick the anarchy skill from the anarchy skill tree then max out the other 2 trees because I didn’t like anarchy. With miko, healing should be your focus but its not like you can heal 100% of the time with collection shards, attacking, moving ,etc. Point being like other people here said if meta talk is the problem just pick and choose what to listen to and ignore and test out what works for you.
You can’t snipe with Miko and Marquis can’t heal so if you are suggesting you should be able to play the way you wan’t then choose a Hero that fits that playstyle. It would be silly to run around with Miko and not cast 1 heal just because you don’t want to play Miko that way. The Heroes in the game are not just different skins, they all have unique abilities that should be used.
I don’t think he suggested that at all - he suggested unsuspecting attacker. To me that means healer who stacks damage to surprise you by bursting down the last few bits of damage to the sentry. He never suggested marquis should heal or Miko should snipe.
This. Of course you should stay mindful of every ability at your disposal picking a character and try to benefit the team, beyond that though is up to interpretation and I’ve seen first hand how aggressive Miko can be even against one of the highest damage characters.
a lot. ive brought diablo III six times. and i’ve never care about “meta”. builds for me are useless. i like ice, so my first mage has only ice spells. then i switched to fire for my second mage. same with my other characters. i don’t care about dps, i play for fun.
same with borderlands. builds some people use as “master build” just seems useless for me, what’s the point in using gainge anarchy if i like sniping while deathtrap distracts the enemies? what’s the point in maya being a healer if i never play with people who can’t take care of themselves?
in the beta i ran across mikos that were all about the kills. and the other side, a guy that was like a parasite, always healing, no matter if i had full health and no enemies in sight.
what i ment, is not that i don’t like to heal, but instead, that i don’t like characters to have a strict manual on how they should be played and if you don’t play everyone leaves you to fight the other team to death.
please quote where i said that.
Okay, let’s remember to discuss disagreements without getting into personal drama.
Thanks.
ok, i spent some time Reading the comments twice.
what i meant is: miko is a healer. yes. and he throws kunais.
meta says: heal. don’t shot.
then what’s the point in having the kunais?
what my post is about (i have the feeling all my posts must be explained five times) is not that i want to snipe with miko, or heal as marquis. is that the meta says “do this, exclusively, play exactly like this or you are the worst player and be flamed and branded personanongrata”
what i ment is, that, if i see a kill and the team could win the match because of it, take it.
don’t turn around looking for a player to heal so he/she can take the kill because it could mean a comeback for the other team.
thanks, it was that what i meant. healer miko surprisingly take the last bits of the match and win for the team.
“creative” playing that shouldn’t be that rare at all, use the healer to win.
has any of you guys seen american fooftball? some matches have been won by the quarterback. that’s the least they expect and that’s a perfect example of what i meant.
A wondrous mods logic comes into play again.
All in all no single character has a play lock that is in effect weather you like it ever single role is versatile and has multiple ways to play. So just assume the opposite of what you would prefer and be surprised on what you get.
(ex. Miko you think is a killer, but heals that Gal that destroys the entire team, Or heals all teammates regularly going for a whole team healer.)
I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not, there.
If you are, feel free to pm if you have any concerns about moderation.
If not…Thanks! (And forget all stuff about me not being sure whether you are being sarcastic or not.)
Oh no sorry didnt mean to come across sacastic. It was a compliment.
I find it both amusing and amazing that mods can keep a calm and clear head in situations like these where people act in a violent manner persay and trying to stay neutral. I know there is a mod appreciation thread but i still dont feel it gives u and the others justice. In a situation like this where everyone is super opinionated its natural to wanna take sides. Keep up the good work mate.
gives ZG a reassuring hug
Don’t worry, man. Just listen to what people are saying here, and you’ll be fine. Ignore what others say how characters should be played.
The way you play your characters is your unique gamer DNA. Don’t let some unruly troll/tryhard change that.
It’s hard to find good mods and so when you find them you should treasure them. PH has done an excellent job here on the forums (as have the other mods). I’d love to see them rewarded some day in the future. I think it would be cool if they got custom titles in the game (like the Gearbox staff have “Gearbox” titles in the game). Custom skins and taunts would be great as well. I’d like to see custom skins and taunts for the Gearbox staff as well as the Gearbox Badasses. I mentioned this to a few people but I have no idea if we’ll ever see such a thing.
I pretty much say the same. This is why I hope this game to not become an e-sport, but rather evolve into a popular PvE and PvP fun shooter.
Just to say, a good miko do not simply heal. He crowd control, interrupting ultimate skills, stopping peoples from fleeing with almost no life remaining, can deal damage if necessary, and push away with a quick melee an enemy when necessary too.
A good miko heals, but he doesn’t just heal. All support characters in that game have offensive abilities that should be used if you play them correctly.
A meta will never say “if you play miko, then don’t deal damage”. That’s not the meta, that’s an uninformed opinion.
Meta Should Exist. as long as there is a “Class” system there will always be a meta. if not then you just get COD, Battlefield, CS-GO or every mordern or historic shooter. As a long standing LOL, Smite, Dota2 player as well as Beta tester for Overwatch, Paladins, Dreadnought, metas are essential. and these games are based on team play.
I can’t tell how many times ive lost games because someone decided to go an off meta build in lol and failed, in paladins people choose all ranged characters no tanks and can’t capture a point because they get blown up.
Metas exist because its the smart way to play, and this is a TEAM game.
I am so glad you said this, because this is the perfect analogy for me to use.
The point I’ve been trying to make is:
Yes, the quarterback can make some plays. And if he gets the opportunity, he should. But if he also spends the entire game not throwing the ball (his “job”), then the team is going to have problems.
This isn’t LoL, or Smite, or dota, or any of those other games. You can call them what you want but their names mean nothing when they’re all played the same way, so long as meta exists every competitive MOBA becomes boring and repetitive, everyone plays a certain character with a certain build every single game. What’s the point in a game with 25 characters when the meta dictates that you can only play these five, with this build, in this way?
The point here is that the OP doesn’t want a meta, he doesn’t want this game to become purely competitive and have his playstyle or character choice dictated by some mathematical equation. It takes the fun out of playing, out of using different characters and trying new builds and strategies to learn for yourself what works and most importantly what is fun and enjoyable to you. Meta exists in lots of MOBAs, if not all of them, keep it out of Battleborn so we can have at least one game of this type where casual players and friend groups can play for their enjoyment without being abused by some overly competitive pricks because they went off meta.
so you want to lose a game but have fun while losing?
THAT IS THE ENTIRE POINT! all the games i listed are of different genres
overwatch/paladins 5v5 fps hero shooter
smite/dota/lol traditional moba
Dreadnought 5v5 space combat simulator
guess what they all have in common classes, tank, healer, dps the holy trinity that has withstood decades of gaming so surprise surprise even though each game is a different genre with different mechanics, they all play the same way
And guess what battleborne has classes and moba elements so it dosent matter what the OP wants or feels because META is ingrained in this games code and there is no running away from it.
Except being overpowered this is the one thing that breakes the meta.
