I disagree completely I hate getting a low level team because 95% of the time I’m going to lose if I’m doing solo que. Yeah it shows whos played the most but lets be real nobody wants a team filled with noobs who don’t know how to play its unfair to the people who are do know how to play. Everyone starts somewhere but they shouldn’t be put with high leveled players to begin with. I say it should stayed yeah people will quit when they see number but owell I don’t blame them I don’t like playing with a team of all level 1-5s its not fun being on a team with nobody knowing what to do and feeding. Like someone said I also gauge players rank to skill level it shows how much time and effort someone put into a certain character and into the game and actually understands how to play.
Gotta second every part of this. And I hate having to type that.
It’s not that I hate rookies, no my clans full of em and I train them up as any friend would. Rather I don’t want to hand hold and carry every public rookie I get matched with. Sorry but I have limit to how often I can explain the finer points of meltdown a day.
Rather it’s the fact that sometimes I just want to play the match and not have to hawk watch everyone, make sure our shards are growing, make sure our squads doing their roles and the lanes are being covered. I just want to l load in put my headphones on and do my thing to help us win, knowing that my mates also know their stuff and need no coaching.
On the flip side, all too often I’m on that high rank team, I say this openly that I feel like a tool whenever they let the match play. Heck I beg them secretly to exit matchmaker because I can forsee the stomping that, really always happens. Even if I hold back the others don’t, they steamroll and I’m left feeling awful. Mostly cause I know that feeling myself.
I’m of the mind that leaving the CR is fine but maybe allow a bracket like matchmaking. So like ranks 1 to say 10 are matched together. Then like 11 to say 20. 21 to 30 etc. Allow the gaps so everyone can learn but that way at least the gear and character options are kinda equal.
I still play all the matches and if I get a bunch of mixed ranks I let the dice roll. But yeah I will drop if I’m put with four rookies or up against a party of forty plus.
I agree and some of you are taking it to the extreme.
Yes, a level 45 player will most likely crush a sub 10 player.
But can you be so sure that the level 45 player can crush a level 20 player? Absolutley not.
Command rank doesn’t reflect skill in any way.
What this guy said^^
I’m still scrolling through this topic but so far your the only one who has brought a solid argument too your side of this debate. The other person’s arguments were pretty weak (and i say this as someone who currently leans on your side of the debate)…
Yes, please do so. Make it just visible to your own team, and the opposite’s ranking invisible.
It’s useless and make peoples on my side quit games that could have been won if we weren’t 4vs5 right from the start, too.
I’m rank 55 and when put in a match with the highest rank for other player being 12, I still managed to do worse than the ranked 12 who was playing the same hero as me, both in stats and leveling speed, so yeah, talk about “knowledge”, " experience" , and the like.
We need a better matchmaking system, sure, but if the MM is good it will STILL put high ranked against low ranked due to it not having a meaning, so peoples will still think it’s working badly, and quit.
Here’s my take on this. I’m very hesitant to support this idea. The reason for this is I’m generally against the removal of content or features on principle if nothing else. This would qualify as a feature. However, I recognize this is a weak-a** argument. And there are many strong arguments in this topic for it’s removal and only 1 real good argument for leaving it as is. So I’m kinda of conflicted. Objectively-speaking it seems to me the arguments for it’s removal far-out weigh the 1 good argument for keeping it…
In the end, I guess I’ll just go with whatever the devs decide. This is a rare instance where removing a feature would prolly be justified.
I think this is a rather simple yet good idea as it doesn’t effect general gameplay at all.
While I agree that command rank does not equal skill, usually those with much higher rank tend to have more mutations unlocked and higher/better gear.
There is a simple way to say this. CR 1-10 (ish) is often going to be pretty bad, as they are just starting. CR 11 - 20 is going to be good if they have focused their efforts on specific characters to learn and play them. Everything above is a toss up in my experience, ranging from terrible to great.
This is the problem. Please do not hide CR rank, because I do not appreciate being paired with someone who has played the game for 30 minutes to a few hours (we are talking CR 1 - 5 here, we look up steam accounts to see how long they have played) when I have been playing for 20+ hours (etc).
I play with 3 other friends, and when our 5th is below rank 10(ish) they NEVER contribute what-so-ever.
As I said, hide the ENEMY’s rank, just have the game displaying your team’s ranks.
“If you don’t want your teammate to quit, try helping them out.”
It’s not that simple, buddy.
If you’re like me, you suffer through the match because there’s always a chance to stage a comeback, but some players will quit after dying twice, or if the enemy is actually communicating.
Please try to remember, different people play different ways, not everyone will wait to get help, and in my experience, not everyone will want to give it.
Only mode I’ve had consistent quitters is mission mode. I’ve played about 10 public games, and have finished with all the players I started with 0 times. Pvp quitting isn’t an issue, no more than any other online game.
Would yal want bots to replace the player? Or more minions/wave? To compensate being a player(s) down?
I’m just saying, please don’t offer such a simple solution to such a complex problem unless it will actually solve the problem.
My thoughts exactly.
I have no problem with rookies themselves; everyone is/was a rookie to the game at some point. But, as someone who’s far from a rookie, it shouldn’t be my job to, as you said, hawk over them. It shouldn’t fall all on my or my higher level teammates shoulders to carry you to victory against other high level players because you physically cant compete with them.
There’s no reason why low level players should be getting matched with high level players and vice versa. Bracketed matchmaking is an excellent idea, and why this wasn’t implemented out of the box at launch continues to baffle me. Gearbox saw the match statistics from the CTT. They saw the statistics from the open beta. Why they thought that this wasn’t something that needed to be immediately addressed is beyond me. And frankly I’d argue that it’s gotten worse.
I’ve played quite a bit of multiplayer since launch day. Compared to the CTT and the beta, there is definitely much more snowballing occurring on a regular basis. Out of ALL the matches I’ve played, I can probably count on my hands the total number of matches I’ve played where 1. Both teams are about evenly matched 2. The actual match itself was a close game; within 50-110 points. Easily more than 90% of the time the match snowballs heavily in favor of one team (regardless of forfeit or not). Christ, I got the reborn as badass title in a day or two because of it.
Brackets are just the way it should be, be it CR or ELO. 1-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-30, etc.
Another thing I’ve taken notice of is the discrepancy with skill level and CR dramatically decreases as CR increases. As in, if a level 8 plays a level 25, the level 25 will absolutely butt blast the 8. If a 15 plays a 25, the 25 has just a decent advantage. if a 25, plays a 30, they aren’t too much different skill wise. And the higher this goes the more evenly matched people are and it’s more of a matter of time invested. Like a CR 55 on your team is probably just as ok as the level 65-70 on their team.
Higher command rank = more/superior gear, more character options, more helix options, and I’m sorry but who’s gonna play to command rank 50+ if they aren’t any good.
Idk why people think it doesn’t matter and a team full of 40+ is on equal ground with a team of sub 10s. It makes no sense.
Gear plays a huge part in PvP, and there’s no way lower level players will have gear anywhere close to mine. Same with available characters, mutations, and sorry but experience with a character is almost more important than anything else. Someone who’s mastered a character is going to be way better than someone who’s unlocked one mutation and still learning that same character (even with no gear involved.) That lower level player might even end up being a fantastic or better player than their counterpart. But at that command rank disparity they don’t stand a chance unless the “master” is just awful. Which is pretty rare.
Maybe in other games but I’m sorry there’s no way in this game you can say it doesn’t matter.
99% of the time, the command ranks predict the outcome of the battle.
There is a lot of things you can even tell about a player from his command rank and title.
Lvl 10’s and below without a title almost certainly don’t even have a gear loadout and usually do poorly, even with easy to pickup and use characters.
Matchmaking is broken.
Matchmaking should first try to match players to command rank, the most reliable measure of experience, if not skill that I’ve encountered so far. Then you can start from there to look at supposed skill level.
I know what it is like to be a low level character and be underestimated. I’ve won a lot of matches with randoms. I still get matched with people who have no idea what they are doing, what skills are better spent against waves and what is better for fighting minion waves and running off enemy players.
You will have a lot better idea for that at higher command ranks. It just doesn’t work well for the matchmaking to put these new guys on my team and expect me carry that hard.
Has this been fixed?
No not yet, especially after the double xp week there’s quite a lot of people sitting at rank 100.
So I think it would definitely help the new player base to not get intimidated by other players high CR even tho high CR doesn’t equal high skill
You can have rank 100 solely from PVE
I think it’s the best solution to stop or prevent “matchmaking fleeing”. And CR should appear just at the end of a game, in the results.
But it’s not gonna help concerning matchmaking problem. It’s difficult to play with newbies when you are CR 100. Funny to watch, hard to win.
give option to hide command rank
in future battleplan
hope so…
