As I said, hide the ENEMY’s rank, just have the game displaying your team’s ranks.
“If you don’t want your teammate to quit, try helping them out.”
It’s not that simple, buddy.
If you’re like me, you suffer through the match because there’s always a chance to stage a comeback, but some players will quit after dying twice, or if the enemy is actually communicating.
Please try to remember, different people play different ways, not everyone will wait to get help, and in my experience, not everyone will want to give it.
Only mode I’ve had consistent quitters is mission mode. I’ve played about 10 public games, and have finished with all the players I started with 0 times. Pvp quitting isn’t an issue, no more than any other online game.
Would yal want bots to replace the player? Or more minions/wave? To compensate being a player(s) down?
I’m just saying, please don’t offer such a simple solution to such a complex problem unless it will actually solve the problem.
My thoughts exactly.
I have no problem with rookies themselves; everyone is/was a rookie to the game at some point. But, as someone who’s far from a rookie, it shouldn’t be my job to, as you said, hawk over them. It shouldn’t fall all on my or my higher level teammates shoulders to carry you to victory against other high level players because you physically cant compete with them.
There’s no reason why low level players should be getting matched with high level players and vice versa. Bracketed matchmaking is an excellent idea, and why this wasn’t implemented out of the box at launch continues to baffle me. Gearbox saw the match statistics from the CTT. They saw the statistics from the open beta. Why they thought that this wasn’t something that needed to be immediately addressed is beyond me. And frankly I’d argue that it’s gotten worse.
I’ve played quite a bit of multiplayer since launch day. Compared to the CTT and the beta, there is definitely much more snowballing occurring on a regular basis. Out of ALL the matches I’ve played, I can probably count on my hands the total number of matches I’ve played where 1. Both teams are about evenly matched 2. The actual match itself was a close game; within 50-110 points. Easily more than 90% of the time the match snowballs heavily in favor of one team (regardless of forfeit or not). Christ, I got the reborn as badass title in a day or two because of it.
Brackets are just the way it should be, be it CR or ELO. 1-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-30, etc.
Another thing I’ve taken notice of is the discrepancy with skill level and CR dramatically decreases as CR increases. As in, if a level 8 plays a level 25, the level 25 will absolutely butt blast the 8. If a 15 plays a 25, the 25 has just a decent advantage. if a 25, plays a 30, they aren’t too much different skill wise. And the higher this goes the more evenly matched people are and it’s more of a matter of time invested. Like a CR 55 on your team is probably just as ok as the level 65-70 on their team.
Higher command rank = more/superior gear, more character options, more helix options, and I’m sorry but who’s gonna play to command rank 50+ if they aren’t any good.
Idk why people think it doesn’t matter and a team full of 40+ is on equal ground with a team of sub 10s. It makes no sense.
Gear plays a huge part in PvP, and there’s no way lower level players will have gear anywhere close to mine. Same with available characters, mutations, and sorry but experience with a character is almost more important than anything else. Someone who’s mastered a character is going to be way better than someone who’s unlocked one mutation and still learning that same character (even with no gear involved.) That lower level player might even end up being a fantastic or better player than their counterpart. But at that command rank disparity they don’t stand a chance unless the “master” is just awful. Which is pretty rare.
Maybe in other games but I’m sorry there’s no way in this game you can say it doesn’t matter.
99% of the time, the command ranks predict the outcome of the battle.
There is a lot of things you can even tell about a player from his command rank and title.
Lvl 10’s and below without a title almost certainly don’t even have a gear loadout and usually do poorly, even with easy to pickup and use characters.
Matchmaking is broken.
Matchmaking should first try to match players to command rank, the most reliable measure of experience, if not skill that I’ve encountered so far. Then you can start from there to look at supposed skill level.
I know what it is like to be a low level character and be underestimated. I’ve won a lot of matches with randoms. I still get matched with people who have no idea what they are doing, what skills are better spent against waves and what is better for fighting minion waves and running off enemy players.
You will have a lot better idea for that at higher command ranks. It just doesn’t work well for the matchmaking to put these new guys on my team and expect me carry that hard.
Has this been fixed?
No not yet, especially after the double xp week there’s quite a lot of people sitting at rank 100.
So I think it would definitely help the new player base to not get intimidated by other players high CR even tho high CR doesn’t equal high skill
You can have rank 100 solely from PVE
I think it’s the best solution to stop or prevent “matchmaking fleeing”. And CR should appear just at the end of a game, in the results.
But it’s not gonna help concerning matchmaking problem. It’s difficult to play with newbies when you are CR 100. Funny to watch, hard to win.
give option to hide command rank
in future battleplan
hope so…
I agree with this. I’m only Rank 20 and if I get paired up against a team of 90s and 100s, my team almost always dc’s. People don’t understand that 100s can be just as bad/good as a 10
Good idea. The first PvP match I ever played was with three other +95 CR players and one +30. The other team were all ~25-35. Before the match started one of their team quit. We barely won. We went the full time and the team scores were within 10 points of each other.
I think if that 5th player hadn’t left, they probably would have mopped the floor with us.
Hate this idea
I love the idea of striking fear into the other team when all of us are high command rank
If they don’t understand that it doesn’t make a difference winning/losting and they ragequit then good for me. I wouldn’t want to play with them anyway if they are like that
Plus I am proud of my command rank. I want it to be shown! Also my title
Bleh. Another useless idea
I am down for hiding command rank I have been command rank 100 for maybe 2 weeks and every pvp match is a terror because I see even the enemy team if they are lower level will auto quit and I’m stuck waiting for more people. recently it’s been better since I have only been matched up with 80 and above but still I don’t want others plagued by this.
It’s funny, I’m currently CR 63 and I’ve never gone into PvP. While it’s definitely a reflection of how familiar you are with the game and they amount of loot you’ve probably acquired, it says nothing about your skill in any particular mode, or how well you can play in a team setting. That’s also probably why so many support characters with high CR’s aren’t playing the way you’d expect or think they should.
For example, if you solo Miko to rank 15 than jump into PvP, you’ll probably play the way your most comfortable with. If you’ve never had to use him as a support healer in a group, it’s unlikely to be your primary focus.
Overall, command rank alone doesn’t reflect enough pertinent information to base your expectations on it. But if you’re not aware of that reality, seeing a max CR will probably distort your idea of what will happen in the match or mission.
Showing the total number of matches / missions played, or a win loss ratio would be much more valuable for determining a players abilities.
IMO
Except for all the people who solo queue will have there W/L ratio skewed by people dropping out, rage quitting or d/c’ing
So someone might sit at 50% w/l doesn’t mean there horrible
Yeah, statistics like that are often problematic and anyway I don’t think we should have to give them away in order to play PvP. I’d be happier just showing and seeing people’s chosen titles. You can’t go wrong with a Nut Buster.
That how smite does it and it works really well , you can see how many times they level there character they have choosen after the selections for the other team and you can see your teams, so you know those are the good players and you got be smarter around them .
command ranking need to go. visible. stupid when people leave , and they do not even know if the person using a first time or low level version of the character. for this game.
mean if someone was dedicated they could be command rank 100 and only have one character level to 15, and if person tryed another character they probally going suck at it for some time.
I’m at Command Rank 70 or so, mostly built off PVE with my friends. I do some PVP, trying to increase my skills mostly, and I’ve seen it go down pretty much every way.
I remember one Incursion match where an opposing Cmd Rank 5 Marquis ended up with 21 kills and 0 deaths, IIRC. Dude just must have been a longtime sniper in FPS PvP stuff or something.
I remember being paired up when I was maybe in my 40’s with 4 other guys all over 70, and we fought a team of all 20’s, maybe one guy in the 30’s. They weren’t communicating in a party or anything, but MAN did they work well together. We got stomped.
Note that most of these happen AGAINST me. Maybe confirmation bias, but I don’t seem to be paired with these low-command rank diamonds in the rough all that often. And when I see level 100 guys against me, usually they’re trained PVP killers.
I do think having opposing command rank invisible would be a good step to discourage bailouts. Keep friendly command rank, or even add in separate numbers for PVP and PVE, so people can see how many ranks you’ve earned in each leading to a composite rank. I liked the idea that changed the number’s color based on your distribution of games played.
I’ve not bailed from any matches yet, with the exception of unexpected and urgent real life responsibilities arising. But I do see it happen.
I suppose I would like to have some kind of system in place to play with and against PVP players of my own skill level, but I’d have NO idea how to implement it. I get that I’ll keep learning as I go, but some of my PVP games this weekend were just discouraging. Just when you think you’re turning a corner, some Rank 100 Master of Rath comes along and knock-up/Dreadwinds you 6 or 7 times in a match, or a Thorn who manages to land headshots every single time while jumping like she’s on a trampoline. That was a rough one.
