I have been in this forum only one day, and I already see it all over.

It’s a vicious cycle, a dog biting its own tail, a bunch of fans desytroying the production they love in a display of dramatic irony.

Players whine the game is not as huge as a multimillion Blizzard title -> Game does not gain players because potential newcomers hear all the whining and give up -> Game loses players since no more people join -> Players whine the game is not as huge as a multimillion Blizzard title…

Rinse and repeat until the playerbase shrinks more and more.

I don’t want to hear “but we must discussion the problema of the game”. No, you must not, not like this.

For example, Overwatch is an overrated hyper-repetitive crap with a gameplay so dumb and simplified and barebone that it makes CoD seem like quantum theory, and it has characters that are the product of cold, heartless, passionless market research.

Do you ever see an Overwatch player mentioning this? Have you ever seen ONE forum thread addressing just one of these issues??

No, they all focus on how much they love the game. This drawns in more players. It’s the opposite of a vicious cycle.

On the other hand, everyone who plays Battleborn only focuses on the defects. The opposite of what Overwatch players do.

My story is that I, like many others, bought Overwatch at day One and completwly shunned Battleborn because everybody said it was bad and whined against it.

One year later, I find out Battleborn went f2p and try it.

Now I discover it’s much better than Overwatch, with far more interesting characters and dialogues, and with a gameplay that feels to me more complex.

Am I am so angry at all the detractors that kept me from trying out Battleborn earlier!!!
And you say you love this game, guys? You “fans” had convince to put me off even TRYING this game, for a year!

And now a final lecture to the Gearbox developers: guys geeze do you even have a marketing team? You do not even know you should not call this free trial, but free to play? And AFTER they got the free to play you tell them to buy the full game, NOT before…

I understand your view, but you’re using the worst way to present it.

But I’ll humor you. Let’s expand out one of the complaints that were floating around

The Australian terrible connection. For a long time the largest thread on these forums was about the fact that Australians couldn’t even play the game they BOUGHT(not free, they bought it) months later they got an “eh, can’t help you”.

Or perhaps you’re talking about the pc players who again couldn’t play the game they payed for due to low population after launch?

I’m just using these examples to point out that not all complaints are the whining you think they are but I’m also pinging @moderators so they’re aware of this thread before it goes south

Not correct. I’ve been the biggest Battleborn advocate on steam forums when the game was released (I’ve lost some hair in the battles on that forum, grey hairs have appeared too). I always pointed out how wrong people were that they were saying bad stuff about Battleborn and how they don’t even try to get into the game and that the problems are not that big or bad or annoying or game breaking and that the devs will fix all of them in time.
BUT. You can’t do that ALL THE TIME and see that not everything is good, because many things aren’t. Some broken characters were not touched for a year. Gear was touched only once up until the latest patch. And all the other stuff.

People are not THAT mindless that if they see someone say bad things about a game - they skip it. Especially when it’s free, like Battleborn is now.

Look at how many complains Hearthstone has from it’s community/streamers/youtubers - but people still play it, because everyone have their own opinion about it and every single person experience fun in many different possible ways.

We, veterans of the Battleborn are just pointing out WHAT’S been wrong and still is untouched. You think 1 year is not enough to notice all the little tiny things that just don’t work or are not great? We don’t bash this game, we all love it, that’s why we want to see improvements. But if you were here for the past 6 months, you would be writing very different stuff.

I think i know what I’m talking about with this amount of hours spent in this game.

Just checked my times for the fun of it. Steam shows 452 hours, and my stats page 275. Would have expected a little more here to be honest, since I’ve mostly played PvE and Bots or private games and only a few public matches (or none if I had to wait for more than 20 minutes) …

Another thread that states someone doesn’t want to hear our whining.

I grew up on reservations in the U.S. and Canada.

Each Wednesday morning we sat together and mostly whined, but it was team building, brain storming.

I don’t for a second think any of us wish this game bad feelings, we are simply hurt and whining.

In general, talk about the game, not other users.

Topics as this, which are basically a discussion about a certain group of fans/members/players often grow salty and derail into personal disputes and flaming. In such cases topics get closed and warnings might be issued.

So far every OW vs BB-topic went down that road, so please stay civil and follow the boards rules to allow an actual discussion.

They do have a marketing team, but their marketing team doesn’t own the publishing rights to BB. I don’t entirely know the dynamics between a dev and a publisher but I don’t think Gearbox can market a game 2K technically owns under their marketing team, unless maybe they buy the publishing rights from 2K or something…?

The truth of the matter is that this game will eventually die, like all online reliant games, but a matter of how soon.

PC side of things, well, I think it happened a long time ago, however there were still enough people to kinda keep the game on life support. It’s not fully dead, yet no one can say it’s healthy.

My issue is always that the decisions that come from upper management often tends to accelerate the death rather than stopping the bleeding. If you know me on this forum, you would have some idea of what I’m talking about.

I often see the competition playing a game of Civ 5 building tall, yet Battleborn decided to go wide. In theory, going wide can be very powerful, yet there are a lot of holes that need to be plugged ahead of time in order for your empire to not fall apart. Kinda like it needs a lot more gears to keep it running, yet when it runs well it runs really well. Most people on this forum will admit that the PvE side, while fun, is lackluster compared to other games.

The PvP side of things… well, there are recent discussions that the colours and other visuals of the game make it very difficult for some players to see or react. I personally don’t suffer from motion sickness, colour blindness, or whatnot, but for some people this is enough to make or break. I’m only scratching the surface, of course, there are a lot more going on.

I’m glad to see that you really like Battleborn, but I simply can’t see the game going on for much longer on PC. Competition on PC is extremely fierce, and other games are always hungry and desperate for my attention and money by offering me massive discounts that Battleborn does not. I’m not just talking about Steam Summer Sale either, but just look at E3 2017 and you tell me how many games came on sale just to celebrate E3? All the while Battleborn is planning to release their free trial model… and everything in game became more expensive… whereas every other game is asking me to pay less.

Battleborn is not hungry for my time; Battleborn isn’t hungry for my money; hell, Battleborn isn’t hungry for my praise.

I could really go on, but Battleborn had the first year to carve something for itself but failed at every critical milestone that they had control of. PC gamers are moving on, myself included, because I’m really tired of seeing the potential never coming to fruition. If there is going to be another Battleborn, I pray GBX will look really, really hard at what happened throughout 2016 and 2017 and never repeat it again.

To the OP, I just have a quick message - you have a very good point. Unfortunately, you haven’t presented it very well, so it comes out less of a suggestion and more like whining and complaining. I advise you to try to reword your arguement, so as to avoid angry responses.

Ok, here’s what happened, as if fate was trying to stop my enthusiasm for this game: I checked, and I lost 20 consecutive matches. TWENTY CONSECUTIVE MATCHES. I even took screenshots because I thought that was crazy.

You know why it happened? Most of my games, we’re 4v5, and I’m on the side with only 4 players. One game was particularly rich as 2 teammates disconnected as soon as the match started, and the other 2 refused to surrender.
