Political Discussion Thread II

Think he was trying to point out Trump thinks he’s a God. Trouble is I can quite easily envision a world where a 100 years from now people will be using the name Don Jnr as an exclamation of frustration or surprise instead of Jesus Christ. The cult of Trump is real and Don Jnr is the new messiah (He’s not the messiah. He’s a very naughty boy).

Remember, I am not a native English speaker. Sometimes I have to ask what a poster means, for the simple reason of not being sure if I translated it right :man_shrugging:

That is true. Much more than I like it to be. But I have ranted about America’s descent into politics being faith-based often enough.

Edit:

Darling, can you even imagine Don Jr sacrificing himself for the good of someone else? I remember that Jesus did that in the old middle-eastern fairy tale.

I did not mean anything funny by it Cur. Just saying I think that was the point he was making mate. Your English is consistently better than mine I was just explaining how I took the post

EDIT that pic of the Trump effigy looks crazy. Where is that? Russia somewhere? Ahh it’s Italian. The sword is saying your taxes in Latin?

To be fair Jesus did not actually volunteer. I am pretty sure he was not walking through the field of crosses thinking that looks fun I must try it. I’ll bring Judas he will love this! There can’t be many upsides to a cult of Trump, but if it ended with Don Jnr feeling a bit cross well… every cloud has a silver lining

Huh, that’s how I took your post, don’t worry.

You do know what has to follow these quotes?

I figured as much mate just wanted to clarify with your history of misunderstanding posts, that go’s back to as long as 5 posts ago. Did not want to take any chances haha

Tone, inflection etc can be so much harder to convey in text as opposed to speech. If you threw the fact it is a foreign language into the mix I would be completely lost. I often read over something I posted and think that can really come off the wrong way and that was not my intent lol.

Anyway, life’s a piece of ■■■■, when you look at it. life’s a joke and deaths a laugh I hear^^

I think I’ve already established that he’s a skeksis.

Not sure about it already being established, but for what it’s worth:

I support the motion of the naked gentlebird with pizza to have the deelected incumbent to be recognised as a skeksis from now on in perpetuam.

Any other yays or nays?

Yay. :raised_hand:

I have to go with Nay. I have a terrible speech impediment that makes it sound like sexist every time I try to say skeksis.

Ok I admit it. This is a pop culture ref I don’t get. Looking at the puppets it looks 80’s and Muppet like so I am guessing these things are from The Dark Crystal? Hated it as a kid and never watched as an adult so I am thinking this might be it?

Oh, he’s a sexist too, so an unabashed yay would still fit.

By the way, a sexist skeksis sounds like the start of a tongue-twister.

Ensign @stocky, please continue from there.

This seems like a good time to bring up the fact that this exists.

I just cannae get the power Captain. (but i’ll try)

A sexist skeksis skedadled to Saskatchewan with his Step-sis who had syphilis. Try saying that 5 times add a lisp for extra effect

I went and checked by the way it is the Dark Crystal. I am in the know now. One of you. one of you. one of you.

How can someone didn’t like The Dark Crystal! smh

It’s fine @stocky I was already old school as a kid and a fan of stop motion / puppeteering. Yes it’s a Dark Crystal reference.
Tried watching the serial on Netflix . Didn’t past the second episode I think.

Back to politic shitpost day. Found that one from a grieving trumpet.

Btw. Big thumb’s up for the team here. The coverage is so efficient I don’t have much to add.

Film wise I can only think of maybe 3 film’s I have liked that had puppets outside of horror films. Labyrinth and Muppets Christmas Carol / Treasure Island. There are probably more but those stick out. I did watch most that came out though Doc and remember watching about 10 minutes as a 5 year old of the Dark Crystal and for whatever reason turned it off. That’s what made me think they were probably from Dark Crystal as it’s one of the few with puppets I never actually saw properly

And politics…

Trump’s election ‘defence fund’ will also pay off campaign debts, email fine print reveals. That’s the inside headline on that article. So the motto seems to be always read the small print otherwise, you never know when your actually paying Donald Trumps debts off.

I was much older than that. In my teens. The 1st reel is really slow pace. (From memory.)

I bet his accountants are much better than his lawyers. I’ll be surprised if all the campaign donations actually went to the campaign.

Trump will never truly go away. A closer-than-expected election makes it only that much clearer that defeat is but a prelude to Trump’s next act as a permanent fixture on the American political scene.

It’s that Trump has already left an indelible mark on the nation he leads, revealing several truths about it in the process.

If several years of talking to his supporters has illustrated anything, it’s that human beings can hold multiple overlapping feelings at once.

We’re not out of the rabbit hole yet.

Trump’s message not only drew record turnout from working-class white Americans, but he also made inroads in his second race among groups that rarely vote Republican.

To be clear, he still won only a small percentage of minority voters. But some were among his staunchest defenders.

That’s what I was saying earlier and probably part of the cause poolsters we’re a little off.

Nice placing of where on the democratic ladder the US head of state stands right now:

Trump’s election suppression effort bears a curious and striking similarity to that of the lunatic “magician” president of the Gambia, Yahya Jammeh, who in 2016 rejected the results of an election he lost, called for it to be nullified, and appealed to judges he appointed to the supreme court to rescue him. Awaiting their ruling, he deployed troops in the capital. Like Trump, he attacked freedom of the press, demonized migrants, was accused of sexually assaulting women, and advocated snake-oil remedies for diseases.

From:

It somehow adds an extra layer of irony to Don Jr talking about a banana republic.

Remember the Crips and Bloods and their blue and red, respectively, bandannas?

Bandannas just might become the new fall fashion.
(As might ARs and wholesale ignorance)

From the article.

The first thing to notice is the color codes, and this was put in place to easily identify another gang member or rival – Bloods wearing red, Crips wearing Blue.

The color blue came in the early 1970’s when a founding member of the Crips, Buddha, was shot and killed. Buddha would always wear a blue bandana, and so, as tribute to him a blue bandana was worn by Crip members. A color and association that would stick to this day.

Well damn you learn something every day. I never really knew much about Buddhism and always thought Buddha looked a bit of a wimp. Might give it a try now I know he was a badass gangster.

Ohmmm Ohmmm stick em up bitch Ohhmm Ohhmmm Ohhmmm

Not sure how much of a badass he was but I can tell you conclusively that he was a method actor on par with Christian Bale.
