Political Discussion Thread II

Well I’ve got a wonderful list of world leaders you might like, led by a sadly mistreated and misunderstood orangutan.

Anyways, not only is community service productive, it costs nothing but (a wonderfully devious) imagination and it’s potentially enlightening to the relevant parties.

If nothing else, they might fall to mob justice.

But really, as hokey as it may sound, unity is the only way out. Any other path results in a downward spiral (and no, not the outstanding NIN album).

Oh I will make it glorious. The lions in top hats and tails would be used only for the most rich and elite scum and they will create a grand spectacle with the arena draped in finery and sharp pointy spikes for big weekend events.

Not to worry though I won’t forget the poor scum, they can fill the weekly roster and shall be fed to their own special group of lions, called of course The Pawpers.

Huh, well I just got a text message from the Census Bureau concerning a survey on COVID. On the one hand, I approve, on the other, I’m surprised after they made such a mess of the census itself. I was going to ask if they ever submitted the census, but no, apparently this is the first time since the US implemented a date for re-apportionment numbers that it was ever missed. The data is also apparently much more inaccurate than I thought, since in addition to the previously known issues they’re apparently having trouble fixing some more they found (which is why they’re late).

Comedy wasn’t actually the goal, but I’ll take this compliment with grace. Thank you.

This has been what I’ve seen. Not crime, but this reminds me of a guy I was “friends” with back in high school. He got caught smoking weed in the boys locker room, and his parents sent him to rehab. When he got home he arrived with a cocaine habit, which got him sent back to rehab a few months later. When he got home from that holiday he had learned about the joys of heroin. He eventually did get clean, and the last time I saw him (20+ years ago) he was on the straight and narrow, but he did take a very indirect route to get there.

It’s kind of like the beginning of the Usual Suspects. If you put all of those sorts of people in a room together, what do you expect to happen?

T finally conceded.

Trump says now that Congress has certified the election results, the “new administration will be inaugurated on January 20” and his focus now turns to “ensuring a smooth, orderly and seamless transition of power.”

He called the riot in the Capitol a “heinous attack” that left him “outraged by the violence, lawlessness and mayhem.”
However, in a video to the pro-Trump rioters on Capitol Hill Wednesday, he told them he loved them, that they were special people and that he felt their pain. Twitter removed that video.

Do watch the embedded video. Trump’s speech writer did an astounding job (in part just having him say those words, although I’m sure Pence & co forced him to under pain of the 25th).

Although his third sentence was “I immediately deployed the national guard…”

Sure ya did bucko.

I just did. It is a deadpan comedic tour de force to rival the works of Christopher Guest and company. I did in fact laugh out loud.

Right!! So just shoot a few of them, and the rest will scatter dropping their Trump flags on the ground as they flee. :man_shrugging:t3:

I’m joking… Kinda. But seriously - if you’re going to RIOT, you MUST understand there’s at least a nontrivial chance of being perforated.

It’s an effective deterrent. We actually have a fairly decent system. You go outside that, and try to occupy Congress? Bang bang, homie.

I do think there are better ways to deal with things, but respect for keeping to your views regardless of who’s involved Mike.

I had to think a few moments about that headline before doing a search on the source.

Anyways, it appears that this is mostly over. There’s an ever narrowing number of behaviors Trump can adopt at this point, and while some of them are horrifically dangerous, I do think we’ll probably avoid them.

I’m literally here to do a libtard check against myself.

There are two prevailing things I’m seeing on facebook.

  1. THIS WAS AN ANTIFA FALSE FLAG. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM WAS A TRUMP SUPPORTER. I HAVE AN EDITED PICTURE THAT PROVES IT.

I don’t feel like I really have to assault this one very hard? I mean, if you think the anarchist organization is so organized to post conservative propaganda on conservative platforms, then drive to DC, listen to the man that they hate for 3 hours, then charge the capitol to make them look bad then…

I mean at the very least you have something constricting the oxygen flow to the brain.

Next-

  1. OH YOU GUYS WERE SO HAPPY WHEN THEY WERE LOOTING TARGETS THIS IS THE SAME THING

Which brings me to my libtard check - it feels absolutely like stealing a tv from walmart is a crime.

It feels like charging a congress in session carrying out their duty as defined by the constitution to preside over a democratic election is treason.

To which point, I defer to my libertarian colleague-

And another of my more conservative friends, via facebook chat-

“They are lucky they weren’t treated like enemy ■■■■■■■ combatants.”

Thoughts? Input?

Predictable and rather uncreative attempt to shift blame. Trump already lost, there isn’t much to gain for them now.

…and even make Trump tell his followers ‘See you in DC’ on January 6th…

Apart from that:

It’s property damage and theft vs. sedition. There is a fine line between those that can easily be overlooked during… Who am I kidding, there is a huge chasm between those. Maybe handing out pocket constitutions in easy language may help.

I for one am never happy about looting, no matter who’s doing the looting. But reading ‘I am all for protests as guaranteed by the amendment’ as ‘I like to see things burn’ seems to be en vogue with some. :man_shrugging:

It wasn’t to be expected that they would, since they were on the right side. If they had assembled to storm the Capitol and install Biden as president instead of Trump, the National Guard would have had tanks on the streets since New Year’s Eve. And don’t even get started on the colour aspect.

On #1 just to quote from the linked article:

I’ll echo Curm’s point on #2 - no, I was not happy to see peaceful protests degenerate into looting and arson fests. But neither was I happy about the way a peaceful BLM protest outside a church was violently cleared just so someone could have a photo op holding a bible upside down. And I am extremely unhappy about the blatantly unequal treatment between the two groups. Apparently DC law enforcement

(Upside-down bible - that means the person holding it is a Satanist or the Antichrist, right?)

On the charge of sedition: from what I saw posted yesterday, the Trumplicans attack certainly seems to meet the letter of the law as I saw it posted at the time. I didn’t look up the exact statute, though.

On the first point, I’d like to point out that no one who believes that is going to believe that that theory have been disproven. But really, all you have to do is look at these guys. Not how they’re dressed, but their faces, their white skin. They’re clearly crackers. But again, hardly evidence. And again, nut jobs won’t take any evidence as fact.

Can’t happen. These people have no ability or tools to navigate back to reality.

On the second : sedition bumps that event up by a pretty significant margin over looting an empty Target. I don’t think there were any direct threats against the safety of the staff but the potential for that was pretty damn high don’t you think?

Not totally sure, but I think sedition is an insurrection. Dunno if a riot in the Capitol counts as such, but if not? Purty damn close. (Shoot ‘em.)

Although I will note an interesting item: one of the rioters was shot and killed by police (yes, good I say). However, if a Leftie protestor had been shot and killed by police in January 2017 when people upset that Trump had won set DC on fire… well, let’s take a wild ass guess and say that the media reaction might’ve been different.

Oh well. This is what happens when rioting is tacitly encouraged for years. Bad behavior that’s condoned tends to spread. However, just so you’re aware… I’ve got a solution! (Slide-rack)

:eyes:

Also, the neo-nazis and fellow travelers present don’t bother too much more than the commies (literal this time, not metaphorical) that attend BLM and antifa events. Any sort of movement will attract its share of extremists. There’s commies in the DNC, authoritarians in the GOP, and raging ■■■■■■■■ everywhere else. As much as I’d like to characterize rioters of any stripe as extremists, sadly, often that’s only a small percentage of the whole.

My point here is this: it’s a mistake - BIGLY MISTAKE - to concentrate on the racial makeup and political leanings of RIOTERS. Cause who cares? They’re rioters. That’s how they should be described. Anything else is just breeding further division and setting the stage for more horror. …Ya know, IMHO.

Let’s be honest with each other.

This was the capitol under blm DC protests-

National Guard troops were deployed to the Lincoln Memorial on June 2, 2020, during protests held in Washington, DC, over the death of George Floyd.

So… really that’s even still a whole different conversation.

Hey, as the consummate lefty I’ve ben very on board with the protest vandalism and destruction things I’ve seen fit.

Local store - I don’t get it, but I’ve sen the arguments and its hard to get.

Local community store - even harder to understand.

Burning down a police station - that just feels on brand.

Tearing down a local branch of a corporate bank bank - where do we sign up, that’s just us creating protest dollars to counter the free speech moneys of said corporations.

Please, give me the right to do an amount of free speech at a building.

The point is… even then?

None of those is interrupting a democratic process en state in a place of law that our country works on.

My point again is cough

VS

Mick, if you recall, this is exactly the argument I made against myself this past year turning to gun control

Cause it’s pretty clear who the cops are more willing to abuse soooooooooooooooooo :eyes:

How many BLM protestors were shot and killed by police? I’m extremely skeptical of the double-standard argument. Although perhaps it’s one that resonates - after all, I don’t recall any women killed by police on 20 June?

BLM protests have devolved into riots long before June 20th. As far as I know, this was the first MAGA rally involving fire and destruction? So kinda makes sense that maybe the gubmint was unprepared. I imagine that’ll change at the next one… Though daddy (that’s me - I’m daddy) shan’t hold his breath waiting for people to acknowledge such things. Why? Ha, cause that’d counter the narrative!

“When they bring a knife, you bring a gun!” - Barack Obama :man_shrugging:t3:

“We need an uprising of the people.” - Nancy Pelosi

My point here isn’t to defend rioters - I think it’s obvious where I come down on those peeps. The POINTY POINT is that our pols are largely all hypocrites. Except for Tulsi… Rowwwrr.

FFS. Can we all just get a buzz on and watch the country burn? Let’s be honest, no one wants to admit they’re wrong, everyone just wants everyone e else to acknowledge that they’re right. Although, if I’m being honest, I do think that people outside the US borders probably have a more clear view of the objective reality. I mean, it is always easier to recognize a problem from the outside as opposed to the inside. (And no, that is not facetious, except the “get a buzz on and watch the country burn” bit, I’m slightly less nihilistic than that. I suspect that most of us Americans have tragically blurry vision when it comes to our own dysfunction.)

How many more got hit with walls of police armed with literally every “non lethal” play in the book? I’ve seen actual footage of them shooting cans of tear gas at people. Not “into crowds”, like into peoples skulls. I’ve seen people’s brain matter. None of what any of them were doing outside of portland came close to what we saw two days ago…

And even then?

No one was storming the capital in sessions to validate electoral votes, a staple of of our democracy.

So instead of a ramshackle wall in front of half the ■■■■■■■ national defense force, we ended up with 8 guys who (and I legit feel sorry for those guys) have to stand in front of this and kind of just give them a push as they run in.

If you want another comparison, throw it up to all the ■■■■■■■ open carry ■■■■■ who stormed michigan or did anything else “because the rona is my freedom”.

The clear thing is that cops aren’t prepared for armed mobs, and wont go with them…

Well, unless they’re helping them into the capitol anyway.

Or y’know.

Get some selfies.

Compared to…

again-

Hey man. You’re the one that told me the people needed guns.

This is why.

This is how the cops act to people with guns.

Guns are power, guns are respect.

Lets even that playing field.

Just do what I have started doing recently Paulo. Anytime anyone asks me where I am from, these days I no longer say England. Embarrassed by the ■■■■ show over here I now tell people I am from a country that is more well liked and respected. I am a proud North Korean now.
