“welp, time to go cry into my paired Obama and Beto bodypillows”
they make me feel safe without disparaging immigrants
I think I may be looking into a Chris Christie bodypillow after tonight. Perfectly affable and loads more cushion than any of your bony world leaders.
Edit: Scuttlebutt on reddit is that CBS is recalling their “confirmation” of Cruz win, ABC does not appear to yet.
It was called really ■■■■■■■ early, but the reason it was called was because they’re waiting on rural votes that tend to lean R.
Total switch count in the house at this point is +13, with NBC already calling the House for D’s. Still need at least 8 more for majority, with most outlets calling for +30 seats.
Seems like things have settled more heavily in favor for Cruz.
Also worth pointing out how badly the D’s are getting their ■■■■ handed to them in the senate. R’s are up +4 on their already existing majority.
Encouraging.
Edit: I know I’m the only one here at this point, but dropping these periodically gives me something to do.
Currently showing +18 for dems.
Currently showing +24-26 with estimates being between 35-40.
Last update for the night. Major results are in, but there are still a few close races that I know nothing about and don’t think anyone here is tracking. I shall now sum up the major results in gif.

Linking to my above post with all the good firsts we hit.
Truly gorgeous gif work there Drew.
Such a disparity between House and Senate… the map is weirdly drawn.
A wise historian once said “Whenever you see straight lines on a map, you can bet whoever lived there first didn’t make it.”
But, it is what it is. There’s much reeling about the popular vote for the senate vs the the count but… it’s how we’re set up. 2020 is a lot brighter with like 30 seats up, with the reds holding 23 of them.
Well, I’m going to read up on what happened, but it’s not that surprising of a result based on the margin presently. Still a few outstanding races though. Yes though, it is unusual to have the two chambers go in different directions, but it has happened a few times before and we knew it was more likely than usual this year.
Yeah, I spent the rest of the night going through conservative/right leaning subreddits and am… pretty surprised how they’re treating those senate wins as “Red Wave”. I’ll be the first in line to say it wasn’t everything that the dem’s could have hoped for, but the seats we lost were already in red states, of the handful of senate seats up for grabs, our chance was to convert two seats in red states, and there were far more blue seats than red at (real) risk. Even on places that aren’t t-d they’re trying to sell this as a massive win when it was very easy for them to hold on, probably just as easy as it was for the dems to take the house.
2020 is going to be a hell of a year in a lot of ways.
Also I know we tend away from gif/memes here, but I still felt it was the best way to sum up the night’s events to all you day walkers. I’m glad you approved.
Tribalism, not a surprising reaction. Honestly, things did go worse for the Democrats than they could have, but the average seat change was +1 Republican beforehand. Was there a chance Democrats gained a seat or two? Yes. There was also a chance Republicans gained 4. Now once you get outside that range things get stranger (see previous note about restraining effects between wave and map), but I suspect most people just don’t keep track of expectations like that.
Regardless, hello 2020, and Beto O’Rourke speculation.
That was the scuttlebutt on that hive of scum and liberalism, /r/politics.
I will be happy with anyone who isn’t Warren. Kid made a good run in a ■■■■ position, and his concession speech got a lot of people jazzed when he actually dropped an F-Bomb. If he can get people energized, great.
Just pleaaaaaaaaase all that is unholy don’t let us run warren or pelosi.
… And the rest of the world breathe.
Should limit some of the more crazy stuff but be ready for a wave of executive orders.
Givin how your system work with the primaries. 2019 going to be hell!
Yeah given that trump never really stopped campaigning anyway and the D’s don’t seem to have any ■■■■■■■ idea who they’re going to run, starting july of next year everythings gonna start going clusterfuck.
I already feel like I’ve aged a decade these last two years.
The next two somehow are going to be worse.
Oh, you were looking to be worried? Let me help. Sessions is likely on his way out still, and Trump may think he can get away with more with a larger majority in the Senate.
What’s the rumour on Kellyanne / Sanders? I heard suggestions before last night they were at risk in a reshuffle, but it looks like Trump has material to save face
Same issue here with “non right” parties. They have good base but can’t find good (and charismatic) leaders. The exeption I can think of was Valérie Plante in Montréal. The one I didn’t want to win…
