What could possibly go wrong?

I believe you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the premise behind the founding of Mickitystan. Our Supreme Leader, El Mickity, is not benevolent in the traditional sense. His benevolence, while legendary indeed, extends only as far as our national motto will allow: we intend to leave you alone and let you do stuff.
Well, this doesn’t look very good:
tldr: if the comments are true, it confirms long-held suspicions this side of the border that Trump is not interested in actually securing a deal with Canada on NAFTA, as long as he can pin the failure on the Canadians.
And doing a tremendous amount of damage in the process, as usual. The man has no concept of “consequences”, at least in so far as accruing to him.
With the complete and utter failure of the pipeline and all of the right-leaning Canadians fuming at Justin, Trump must be joyfully rubbing his palms together with enough friction to start a fire. He knows full well that Trudeau will be the obvious scapegoat if Canada gets the shaft in the deal - which now seems inevitable.
I like this statement because it’s honest, can’t join due to career and ethical obligations. But the honesty is impressive and worth noting
This isn’t super relevant to anything, but I’m watching Jack Ryan tonight and it’s the first big “spy thing” I’ve watched since Trump got elected… And I’m finding myself sighing audibly every time they talk about “informing the President” . They’ve done a really go od job of pretending the current administration doesn’t exist though, which is neat.
As soon as your enlistment is up, you’ll be welcomed into the Armed Forces of the Republic of Mickitystan. You can be our MINISTER OF PAIN.
What’s funny is that you know things like this have already happened. Wonder how that all went down? Like, did he take whatever the news was in a sober and thoughtful fashion? Or did his aides have to restrain him from tweeting regarding the latest threat from the Republic of Mickitystan?
That was part of it. The emotion with every sigh was… a big combo.
The first was the fact that I wouldn’t trust the man to understand his own mcdonalds order, much less an order that could endanger troop/civilian lives.
The second part was trying to imagine analysts actually explain it to him with coloring books and what have you.
The last was the realization that he’s absolutely been through those situations before, and it was horrifying.
He’s quietly really ratcheted up drone and air strikes just about everywhere, but it’s one of the things that gets left behind every time he tweets something fun.
I was trying to find some numbers on the strikes, and some comparisons. The closest comparison I could find was that between 09 and 17, Obama had ordered 550 air strikes in Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia, and elsewhere, and by june of this year Trump had ordered 80 in those three countries alone.
I especially liked this exchange from one of the articles I found-
A recent Amnesty International report, which has drawn vehement objections from the Pentagon, accuses the U.S. of possible war crimes over “indiscriminate” attacks in the battle last year to retake the Syrian city of Raqqa from ISIS.
- From the report: “On the ground in Raqqa we witnessed a level of destruction comparable to anything we’ve seen in decades of covering the impact of wars.”
- Col. Thomas Veale: “As far as how do we know how many civilians were killed — I’m just being honest, no one will ever know. Anyone who claims they will know is lying.”
This is something I’ve disliked from the Obama era, and not enough people are talking about it so it’s just going to get worse until its beyond horrible.
We legit have no idea how many combatants vs civilians we have killed with drone strikes and our procedures for determining civ vs target are horribly opaque.
But no, any time they were talking about “running this by potus” shades of all of this ran through my noggin.
It’s part of the imperial presidency in a lot of ways, but also part of a broader trend in the government to cover things never intended under the umbrella of what a mess the legal justification is. You can see it not just with drone strikes, but also with domestic spying. It’s genuinely worrying, but strangely the very lack of clear legal basis makes it harder to oppose or even track.
Fake news. It’s two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish, and a chocolate malt, and apparently Trump had his minions terrified about getting it right and on time. According to the fountain of truth that is Corey Lewandowski:
the food needed to be hot and ready for him. Some of the time, especially when he was pleased with his performance at a rally or even, he’d say, “Do you think I deserve a malted today? I think I deserve one.”
A malted. Ugh, that alone should be impeachable.
From a libertarian/independent point of view, it’s almost hilarious. We warned you people about this ■■■■ when W was president, and Republicans sneered while the Democrats cheered the warnings and organized their anti-war marches. Then Obama was elected, and suddenly the marching stopped, while the wars certainly did not. In fact, he started a new one or two just for ■■■■■ and grins. Drone strikes increased a LOT, and Republicans kinda jeered, but also kinda cheered, while most Democrats didn’t say dick about it, because, well, he’s a Democrat and one can’t criticize a fellow Dem, eh?
Now we have Trump. I’ve stopped doing this because people just get mad and ■■■■■■, but when Trump was first elected I was very fond of pointing out how some people have been warning against the imperial presidency for quite some time now. “Remember when I’d post that maybe you shouldn’t gloat in Obama using his pen and phone because someday we might have a Republican president, and you just might regret it? Well, even I never thought we’d have THIS Republican president.”
And the spying. Ah yes, the spying. The same people that are today, probably rightfully, bemoaning the loss of their security clearances are the same that spied on us all - ILLEGALLY. Then lied about it to Congress. So look at my crocodile tears for these bastards! LOOK AT 'EM!
Either way, know what we don’t have in Mickitystan? McDonalds, that’s what.
Thank heavens! As long as there’s one place on earth without a McDonalds, there is hope for humanity.
Meanwhile:
Things just keep getting messier and messier…
That remind me of a recent article published in “Foreign Affairs”
To be clear, when I said I’ve posted, “Blah, blah, Mickitystan, blah, blah” that was in reference to Facebook posts, not here. You guys may get snarky at times (probably learned it from me) but y’all have never gotten ■■■■■■. That’s always been Facebook people, and people who’re supposed to be real-life friends getting all bitchy and ■■■■■■ because I dare criticize both Trump and Obama in the same post.
But yes, the imperial presidency is a very real problem, and while it didn’t start with W, Obama or Trump, it unfortunately won’t end with them either. Just think - if it’s this bad now, what will the presidency be like in another 20 years?

Just replace the horse with a Harley-Davidson or something.
We’ll shoot his/her tires out with our civilian-owned AR15s. Because ■■■■■■■ freedom!
Wait, where did Obama invade? I’m drunk and concerned I forgot something.
Will this do, monsieur mod?
