Quite. It’s not as if Britain and France have a history of- hmm? Oh, dear - never mind.

Please be aware that representatives of the Republic of Mickitystan stand ready to provide all appropriate diplomatic assistance upon request.

Well this is… Bizarrely fascinating. Figured some of you might want to take a look. It’s an anonymous op piece from a Trump admin official.

Scuttlebutt on reddit is that it’s no ■■■■, Mike Pence trying to shore up support for a future presidential run while distancing himself from the Trump scandals. That and also whoever wrote it is a piece of ■■■■ who’s complicit with all the horrible things that Trump does, but whatever.

Their main selling point is the use of the word “lodestar” which Pence has used in several speeches and documents. Which isn’t much but…

For sure it’s a weird word that I’m not entirely sure I’ve heard before, so why not?

Yeah, I read some of the comment section, wasn’t terribly impressed by the response. Honestly if they won’t get him out of there I’d prefer someone keeping a lid on things anyways. I mean what are they expecting, that the author has the same political position as them? I will agree that it’s well past the point they should’ve seen him out anyways, but it’s not surpising to be nervous about invoking the 25th.

Eh, it’s r/pol. I respect a lot of commentary and linkstorms but it leans heaaaavy left. Like if bernie is the third baseman, they’re the yeungling protest outside the bar three miles away from the stadium.

Still, it is a self fellating pr play by whoever did it.

Rumpelstiltskin vs. MySpace Invaders:

Something about this seems relevant…:

My problem with them isn’t their lean, it’s their intolerant behavior. I suppose at least it’s a good reminder of how large swaths of the public actually behave, but honestly I don’t think I needed one that bad.

I usually just accept that most people not on bestof are fuckweasels and move on.

Good news, everyone!

It would have annoyed me if we’d gone to war over something as revolting as seafood.

What the Beeb isn’t telling you is the vital role that Mickitystan’s ambassadors played in the European Peace Process. You’re welcome, Europe.

It probably helped that the term “Mickitystan ambassadors” got tranlsated to “Mickitystan enforcers” in French.

On the Op ed thing: Mike Pence has denied he wrote it. If I was a staffer and wanted to throw folks off the scent, throwing in “lodestar” would be good (as would throwing in phrases used by others within the administration, because you don’t want your own writing style to out you.)

And it’s not that odd of a word - it’s just a Texan with a bad cold referring to the “lonestar” state… :stuck_out_tongue:

The official stance of the Republic of Mickitystan regarding the French is generally one of mockery. However, as at least one of the regular forumites appears to be of the French Canadian persuasion, Mickitystan’s representatives have attempted to refrain from outright mockery of the French. This includes mentioning how snobby they are, how they all still smoke, how they let an NHL team leave for Colorado, and again, how they’ve only had two military leaders worth a ■■■■ since the dawn of time.

Regarding the discord between Anglican and French portions of the British colony known as Canada, Mickitystan has intentionally chosen to take no stance on the inner workings of Canadian tribal politics.

I would like to give a satisfactory answer here but I cannot, not about the crocodile tears but the rest of it.

All I can say is that those who are below a certain level who attempt to spy on Americans without court order do face serious consequences.

And those above that level if they’d so and avoid consequences there was a separate failing

I’m genuinely afraid of this thought sometimes

@Hattie that’s part of the issue, the president is commander in chief but does not have the power to declare war. So legally speaking the United States hasn’t been at war since WW2

But we’ve had extended conflicts

However let’s all call a spade a spade because this plays into the “imperialistic presidency” worries(I can’t go further along that thought either)

New carrier?

And nit picky comment.

It’s “carrier strike group”

And a 6th fleet deployment sounds epic…(Europe)

Forgive me. The Republic of Mickitystan is land-locked and has only the most ragtag of militias.

Except the USN would have to create it without increasing its budget so…

Which also reminds me that I’ve been meaning to check up on how the various proceedings from the fallout of those USN pacific fleet ship collisions are progressing. Are things back on track or still mired in bilge water?

I forgive you even though you are a wog(polliwog, a joke on shell backs)

Depends on context, for individual punishment or for the climate that helped lead to those accidents?

Individuals: just about taken care of from what I recall reading a few months back

Climate: haven’t been in 7th fleet in a while, but there’s talk about HUGE changes because of it that has me relieved

Geez, dude. I barely even Tweet! However, when I do Tweet, I only send the best tweets. Nobody has better tweets THAN me, ok? My tweets are the envy of the world, and everyone knows Mickitystan - REPUBLIC OF, OK? - is home to the best tweets. Everyone wants to make fun of my tweets, but they can’t because they’re the best! #MMGA
