As a New Yorker, I can’t express how much that image hits us.

To this day I still know people dying from what was called ‘The 9/11 Illness’ which was really only brought to the forefront when Jon Stewart dedicated several shows to the fact the first-responders were getting practically 0 coverage.

9/11 isn’t just an event that cost lives in my city, it is an event that continues to cost lives in our city.

New York is an indomitable city. A port that can accept every culture and people and morph them in to this peculiar specimen known as the ‘New Yorker’. Different accents, different faiths. Same damn attitude. That is why they chose to attack us, and that was their biggest mistake. We are not overcome by adversity. We are bred in it.

That is the image to remember. There can be no wound inflicted that can halt us.

Oh.

And my Birthday is D-Day so long as we’re all at it.

Sadly, not just first responders:

Just realized the date when I had to write it on a paper at school. Looked around me and thought : They all were just toddlers then. (Beside an exception or two that could had been pre-teen…)

The region (Middle East, Balkans…) been a hot spot for… A couple thousand years. I’m afraid you’re not leaving anytime soon.

War is not a board game. There’s no rules saying when it’s over. The best “battle plan” last until the first shot is fired…

Have a peaceful day neighbours.
I thought of talking about Doug Ford but it can wait.

I’ve been biting my tongue somewhat too. Basically waiting to see how things go down at the Toronto Lunatic Asylum tomorrow. (Seriously: the provincial parliament buildings are on the site of a former psychiatric ‘hospital’.)

That doesn’t excuse their lack of consideration for what they were doing though. Remember Mission Accomplished? That war isn’t neat or pleasant is not only not a defense of such behavior, it points out how crucial it is to do such preparation in the first place.

Next year, but we’re close and in 3 years people who joined right after will be able to retire…

And already have many serving who don’t remember it(my training has 19 year olds for example)

War does have set opponents though, and terror doesn’t meet that criteria

If you can’t clearly and completely define the enemy you need to defeat it will never end

One of my favourite cartoons from Private Eye was drawn during Gordon Brown’s tenure as PM here while British casualties in Afghanistan continued to rise. It was a parody of Elizabeth Thompson’s famous painting Remnants of an Army - the one soldier of 16000 who made it alive to Jalalabad in the First Anglo-Afghan War - with the modern subject’s speech bubble proclaiming “Mission Accomplished”.

Oh god…

Us: “Go Hattie, it’s your birthda–”
Trump: “Excuse me, excuse me – My birthday.”

September 11:

On the front, tho, Trump is treating the White House more like a castle…
…and now that someone is apparently working from inside, seems to me like he’s dealing with a bit of a Siege of Casterly Rock situation, even if it may be in his head:

‘Tremendously wet’?
Also, this could be used for a drinking game for how many times he says random s***.

Each of the last five - FIVE - US presidents have bombed Iraq.

Wonder if this information could shed any light on possible US foreign policy ineptitude? Discuss amongst yourselves.

As always, follow the $$$ and you’ll find this is by design…and ineptitude…

My favorite thing is that we still have no earthly ■■■■■■■ idea how many people we’ve killed in Iraq/Afghanistan.

Estimates range from 500k to “a lot more than that”.

-stream of consciousness-

I’ve watched and read people express a belief that this time, he’s going down for sure! since he announced his candidacy in 2015. Similar refrains were made throughout the primary and into the general election. Yet, here we are.

Also, as loony as his campaign and its members were, I can’t believe that if there were Russian collusion it hasn’t leaked by now.

I’m not telling you kids to give up on that dream of yours of watching Trump get bounced out of the White House on his orange ass… But I am saying, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. Still, as always, this remains the best reality TV show I’ve ever ■■■■■■■ seen.

I agree with that for the most part, except for the part about evidence of collusion not leaking. It’s something you see even with issues much further in the past (look at Nixon). Trying to determine what happened in a given situation can be a sort of long distance intellectual wrestling match played over the course of years when it comes to secrets. I’m not going to make any statements either way on what will come out honestly.

Yeah, you’d think I’d have learned my lesson on political predictions a long time ago; alas, I have not. But given the cast of literal characters associated with the campaign, it seems utterly inconceivable that if it happened, one of these clowns hasn’t tattled yet. Ya know?
