Meanwhile, in Europe, effective cooperation between the UK and Netherlands despite the continuing Brexit saga:
Once again, you had me at handjobs.
That was an odd vote. Murkowski voted no on a procedural, which means sheās almost a guaranteed no on the actual vote. Collins says sheās announcing her vote later today, despite voting yes on the procedural. Manchin voted yes on the procedural, but is likely not willing to be the deciding vote in favor. And Daines is now leaving Washington to attend a wedding, so this vote might occur one down.
Interesting read here which, although financial in nature, is very much political in terms of whatās going on. And, although itās UK-focussed, the same comments would apply to Canada and the US for sure:
Interested to know what people think. Warning: it is a bit of a long read, but itās obviously a lot shorter than the book itās taken from.
Figured what it might be about, though it took a while to get to the explanation of the misallocation that Wall Street et al cause. Yeah though, heās got a point. Main Street is being starved, you can see it in relative production generated by a dollar in different conditions. I do think the author is optimistic to the point of foolishness on his proposed solution though.
A growing body of economic research confirms that once a financial sector grows above an optimal size and beyond its useful roles, it begins to harm the country that hosts it.
That sounds rather dramatically like they consider London to be a tumor. Good image.
I havenāt had a chance to finish the article, but itās a convincing premise.
Even if I look at a smaller, closer example - Whistler - I can see this in action. In the 70ās it was a collection of stoners living in self-built shacks on land they bought for $10K. Now land is $10K per square inch and normal people have to work 5 jobs and live with 6 other people. Meanwhile nearby towns that were sustained by conventional means have become unliveable to the next generation because of the spillover effect. All this to serve a skiing industry.
Why do I keep forgetting nothing matters
You havenāt fully accepted heat desth yet.
I have to admit, I did not expect Trump/Republicans to get a bump this big from Kavanaugh. It also seems to have entirely drowned out the tax story, which never really caught on. I do somewhat wonder how itāll play out over the midterms themselves though. My default assumption is that by the time election day rolls around itāll play to Democratic benefit, but itās close enough that sufficiently effective use of the media may keep the Republican base motivated.
See Hattieās post above.
But yes, I dunno. I still anticipate a drubbing if only because thatās what history tells us is likely to happen. Although, that being said, I believe history also told me that weād never have a presidential campaign won by a reality TV star⦠Clearly, that was a filthy lie.
Yeah, donāt get me wrong the evidence says Democrats will gain House seats, and I donāt think thatās in reasonable doubt. Or even that theyāll gain a lot. However, the range of seats that are reasonably probable goes from not quite enough to give them the House, to a good twenty over that. Further, the Senate is just in a weird position, itās a war between the map and the wave basically. The map is for the Democrats arguably histories worst, but they have such an advantage in terms of environment that the most probable result is a wash or close to it.
Canāt deny the probable results arenāt the only possible ones though. Maybe Republicans take almost no losses in the House, maybe Democrats get 50 seats, maybe one side or the other sweeps the competitive Senate races. Those possibilities arenāt very likely though.
One odd point is thereās a decent probability of the House and Senate results diverging, which would make this the fourth time thatās happened from recollection. Regardless, weāll see.
Thos is whatās giving me the most pause right now. And it sucks.
Just stumbled onto thisā¦:
Asked if heās ever blacked out, he says āI donāt knowāā¦
Speaking as a fairly accomplished drunk, if thatās your answer, you need to quit.
A simple yes or no question. I wonder if he ever tolerated a witness evading questions by asking questions in HIS court? Lied so many times under oath or evaded questions.
Only the truth AND ALL the truth. Quite simple no? How does he expect any credibility as a SCOTUS if he canāt get that simple thing?
Exactly. And regarding a drinking problem, most folks would be āBeer?
Had enough.ā
Iām just saying, itās one thing to blackout - Iāve done it, all my friends have done it, ā ā ā ā most people I know have done it. You donāt know what you do when you have a blackout, but you sure as ā ā ā ā know it happened.
Stumbled onto this old bitā¦:
Dude, you donāt joke about ā ā ā ā like this.
Also, am I reading her laugh wrong?:
ā(P )Resident Evilā?:
Also, without the space, ā( P )ā interestingly becomes §, which I have no idea what it is.
I think āI donāt knowā¦ā has been taken out of context.
Answered question:

Out of frustration, answered:
āI donāt know, have you?ā = interpreted as:

Answered again:
