Political Discussion Thread

This is seriously wrong:

There are not enough face-palm GIFs on the internet to adequately express how I feel about this.

A bit more added from the comments:

Which is fair enough - I get that US presidential budgets are pretty much symbolic. But. Saying you want to cut funding to the program that includes research and responding to the coronavirus that is currently the news of the day pretty much everywhere?

Uncool, bro. Uncool.

Is that why he’s so keen on raising annual average temperatures year over year by gutting standards and doubling down on coal?

Global warming will rescue us all from those pesky infectuous diseases…

I just checked. Right now the daytime high in Wuhan (China) is around 19°C/67°F. Which is significantly warmer than here. But there’s more coronavirus there than here. Maybe it’s not heat but cold? /s

(Sarcasm tag added just because you never know…)

If it comes down to Trump v. Sanders, I’m going to barricade myself inside Fortress Mickity and await our inevitable destruction.

Now now, Mickity. We all know it’s always the same choice come November.

And besides, we all know you’re just sad that your favorite socialist dropped out last night. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

#Yang2024, sponsored in part by the Tourism Board of Mickitystan. /s

To be completely transparent, I’m so sick of Oval Office Temper Tantrums and lies on Twitter that if it was Trump v Stalin in November I’d be scratching my head at the polls.

Yang had some interesting thoughts, I’ll say that. I’m not sure how much political influence he’s going to have (it’s not clear cut, like Sanders’ in 2016 - I’m not sure yet there’ll be a movement born out of this), but I definitely found him to be one of the most fascinating candidates on stage.

It’d certainly make for some fun debates.

To put the serious hat on for a moment:

Here as in Canada? Wuhan is roughly in the same latitudes as Jacksonville, FL, Austin, TX, or the northern coasts of Africa, so it would be warmer than most of the US or Canada.

For now, there’s still too much unexplored about the virus to give blanket statements or even cut the CDC funding. It’s not even clear if people who are infected, but show no symptoms yet can spread the virus or not.

And China does not make science easier for that matter. The health commission in Beijing recently changed the definition for the registration of new cases. Only people who show the symptoms are added to the statistic. Even if a lab test shows one is infected, one isn’t officially infected before the symptoms set in.

And now combine this with the fact that it isn’t known if infected people can spread the virus before the symptoms show. Fun!

Edit:
Shave and learn some poetry @MickityMike ! The position of

surely is a tremendous job opportunity for someone who needs some experience before starting Mickitystan!

Hmm. In that case, I may reevaluate the online image I’ve been projecting. I vary between slight beard and clean shaven. Currently, clean shaven.

However, I can guarantee to you, and to every other citizen of the Republic of Hat, that I have never had, nor will ever have, a ā€˜stache.

Vote Mickity 2020! I’m not a ā€˜stache man!

It will be interesting to see how the Stone case pans out. As in ā€œmay you live in interesting timesā€ levels of interesting. Not sure I really want to see the final outcome of this - whichever way it goes, it’s likely to be bad.

Why are you wasting your talents with all that physics nonsense, you have an instinct for Irish literature!

As I heard an Irish broadcaster pointing out - while in most nations people might say ā€œthe situation is serious but not hopelessā€, in Ireland, ā€œthe situation is hopeless, but not serious.ā€

Texas A&M did a study showing why this happened a few years back, basically they plotted what type of power plant would be most feasible economically in every part of the country. Do you know how many places a coal plant was the best choice? None.

Really though, we ought to be switching to nuclear as a transitional technology. The scaremongering regarding it is ridiculous.
