Political Discussion Thread

From Sun’s article:

'These aren’t opinions. These are facts .’

‘One of the only things we know for sure about COVID-19 is that the overwhelming majority of people who get it will either have very mild symptoms or no symptoms at all. So for the love of all that’s holy if you’re not elderly or immunocompromised, go do everything you can to contract COVID-19 .’

Yeah, right. It’s totally harmless and some guy had a hunch that its lethality is much lower than all those experts think. It’ll blow by. It’s going to disappear, like a miracle.

Maybe the author of that balanced and surely well-researched article did not notice cases like the one @VaultHunter101 mentioned above. But even if he did, maybe it’s just the media, cause like any good righty knows:

‘And I know the media, academia and Hollywood are very effective at shaping our impressions of social and political goings-on.’

So don’t believe those academics. I mean they don’t even all agree amongst themselves, so how can they be correct about anything?

And if you’re still thinking that the media does not lie to you 24/7 (except Breitbart and FOX) then please check some of the highly informative links below the article:

No, Temet. That is a piece of truth that defies the preachings of the left-wing media, the leftist academics etc…

Anyway, I hope it’s clear that my ranting above is satire. My opinion on the article in 10 words:

Well, you just reminded me that ERB will likely make an election rap this year. Pity that JibJab hasn’t made political videos in years.

I lied…
Maybe to long for most here to listen to. But if interested, a very good discussion on the pro gun side of :canada: & :us:

Okay, I am converted from my horrible against-gun stance. My last words on the topic:

Yay, guns keep you safe, guns are good for your health, have a gun for breakfast every day and you’ll live for EVAH! Believe in guns and you’re gonna go to heaven. Security is only achieved through arming up. Be part of a well-regulated militia! Scratch that, be your own militia. Children accidently shooting each other cause their parents did not even practice basic common sense in letting their guns lying around are sad, but shan’t stop freedom! The left wants only the criminals to have guns! They want y’all pillaged and plundered while unable to defend yourselves! Praise the unselfish saints of the gun lobbies who want to give you means to protect yourselves! All Hail Heckler & Koch! Buy one, get one free! For a life without fear, eat a gun every day!

I made it about 7 minutes into that video. I can not see many people warming to the guest. I hated her 10 seconds in, when she says she loves big game hunting. Wonder why there are only 2 pro gun advocates in Canada lol. I was cringing through it.

The only big game hunting I am down for is a Hunger Games style event where all the so called “hunters” have to kill each other. Let’s see how they enjoy it when the prey also has spray guns, that make taking your target out childs play too.

I just can’t understand the mindset of someone that sees something rare and beautiful, yet their first thought is shoot the ■■■■ out of it.

I’d sworn off this thread for a bit, but you got me reminiscing about my senior year of high school with this one:

I used to love this album, and specifically this song.

Lyrics because I’m not sure anyone would understand the singing. I’m pretty sure I don’t.

Honestly, just part of it. I am too occupied with playing the ersatz teacher for my kids while the schools are closed to find time for a 46 minutes podcast.

Stocky’s not wrong there. The guns are there already and any move to do something against that is countered by the argument that regulation will only get guns out of the hands of the law-abiding citizens.

Thing is, the argument from a logic viewpoint isn’t bad. But it’s the launchpad for ‘interest groups’ scaremongering and the ‘You will die defenseless’-rhethoric I quoted above coupled with the hypothesis that one should be afraid anytime, anywhere. I may sound naïve, but I don’t buy that. If one’s shop is in a bad Baltimore neighbourhood or somewhere in rural Montana does make a difference in threat level, but I never see that mentioned in the scaremonger sales pitch.

I am fully aware of me having an outsider viewpoint here, but the ‘without a gun one ain’t ever safe’ pitch doesn’t really win me over. And with that I shall turn my sarcasm back on.

The End Of The World Is Nigh, The End Of The World Is Nigh.

Nooooooooo not from Covid you silly goose!

The Guardian newspaper published an article that was neither for political point scoring nor fear mongering (much), and was interesting. Now that’s a sure sign of the apocalypse.

Trump will read this though and order every coma patient to be injected with Covid and say “It will wake them right up, saw a cool article.”

What can I say? I am a man of the people.

Just not a man of the politicians! (I’m not sure any of us would fall into that category)

Can I still be a man of the government bureaucrats? They get a ■■■■ rap, but 9 times out of 10 they have the shittiest job and get spat on by everyone else for no reason, and at least 7 times out of 10 they’re legit doing their best to do their job in the best way to make things better for the people they interact with.

Yes, you can. For all the reasons you stated.

Point is, one never reads about those that just do a good job and the 3 of 10 that don’t more or less shred the rest’s reputation.

I’d argue out of those 3, only one is really an ■■■■■■■. The other two just see it as a job. Cause, y’know it. It is. The 1/10 is the only one doing ■■■■ to try to “move up” based on on the current politics of the time. The other two don’t care, but are still… mostly doing their job.

I’ll grant you that. In the course of my job, I happen to, on occasion, deal with some peeps at the various public works departments ‘round the country. Some are pretty good and genuinely want to help and protect the public (as do I - part of the engineer’s ethical code, yo). Others are just stupid lazy ■■■■■■■■ who don’t give a ■■■■ about you, the public, or anything. But I’ll readily admit those are usually in the minority. (Some are just ■■■■■■■ too goddamned stupid to be allowed to live, but alas, I am also forbidden from mercy killings by that same code o’ ethics.)

I can’t speak to it directly, but from my job heavily involved in customer service, I can tell you that’s just the ratio that exists to the best of my knowledge. And my team isn’t directly related in trying to get people the government help they need.

Even if you apply the base level of IT customer service to the bureaucratic side of things, and I honestly think their side slants higher to ours as far as dedication to the “customer” goes, things move fairly well.

Hate politicians that make their jobs shittier or more complicated - do it all the time.

Never the delivery system.
