So, how about that joke North Korea pulled, huh?
Pretty much par for the course. Their behavior is so erratic and bombastic that it’s hard to get anything out of it. Hell, I’m not even sure if you mean the whole parade/failed launch or the the warning all those journalists got which turned out to be about the opening of a new street.
Wait, so they’re parading about a FAILED launch?! In North Korea, there is madness…
I really don’t like this
Some people are talking about some WW3 action, but it’d probably be NK getting beat on by everyone else, everyone’s getting tired of them.
I honestly wonder if they were sabotaged or just bad. Either way, i feel like people were murdered because of the failed launches.
NK dreams of the day it can beat off everyone else.
As for sabotage, I heard a claim about a batch of blindly infected hardware courtesy of the CIA, some of which wound up in NK. The problem is that, if that’s true, what happened to the ones that didn’t go to NK, and the potential for US allies to be inadvertently sabotaged by that blindly-infected batch.
Of course, that’s not a problem since we are bigly making friends right now. (Note: sarcasm)
Honestly, the big news of yesterday was Turkey’s ‘referendum’. Apparently the whole jailing the opposition and violence bit wasn’t sufficient, so they also decided to accept unverified ballots, kicked out the election observers, and just in case that wasn’t enough got caught on video stuffing ballot boxes.
Oh, for ■■■■ sake
Not good news for Turkey. Apparently the ballots didn’t even have questions on them, just yes or no! Some referendum. (Mind you I’m not keen on referenda full stop after Brexit). It’s sad to see in Turkey because it’s not a society necessarily destined to dictatorship at all.
Well, if the United carry-off wasn’t enough…:
Astounding…
… and extremely annoying. I REALLY don’t feel up to coping with a general election right now. I don’t want to vote for any of them. And I don’t think Brexit is a problem that our current parliamentary system is in any way equipped to deal with or assist in.
I’m going to guess the decision behind is because Theresa May finally got to Brussels and has been confronted by the ghastly reality of what she now has to do. She has quite a slim majority in Parliament right now which will make it hard to get things done if there are any backbenchers rebelling (there will be).
Ugh.
Just saw this on french medias. This decision is very brutal for everybody …
I honestly and truly don’t know what she’s doing, I wasn’t sure what to expect from her at first, but somehow I wind up being surprised anyways.
Regardless, things over here across the pond should be interesting today, Georgia is holding a special election now and the political world at least is quite interested given the margins on the last two.
I don’t know what to say to the UK’ers round these parts, so I’ll just leave these “Application for United States Statehood” forms over here and go wash my car.
I’m honestly not sure who to vote for. I spent all my teenage years longing to vote and now I can I’m at a disgruntled loss. I want to do what I can to keep to Tories out (or at least their majority down). I’m not sure Labour has a hope, though I hate my cynicism. May be repeating politics you already know, but they’re led by Jeremy Corbyn, who is … his own man. He’s a bit like Trump really in that he’s outside the system and has pretty radical, arguably unachievable ideas, but doesn’t feel bound to fit in. In comparison to Trump he’s socialist, very mild-mannered, and appears both kind and reasonable. He’s not going to win, he’s not great at politics really.
I’ll probably end up voting for either him or the Green party. Or spoil my ballot, which is the only way to say ‘none of the above’. Should probably look at who’s standing locally first I suppose (we don’t actually elect a Prime Minister here of course, the Queen appoints the head of the party with the most seats in Parliament, so you have to choose your local Parliament rep and your government with the same vote. Pretty stupid).
Honestly from my (admittedly low) knowledge of him I’d call a less sincere Sanders, rather than a Trump analogue. On a tangentially related side note the media narrative portraying Trump as an outsider annoys me. I mean we’re discussing a man who brags about having ‘bought’ politicians, and was first solicited to run for president by one of Nixon’s advisers decades ago.
As for your snap elections though, my only comment is that I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Lib Dems make some gains. Oh, those of you from the UK may also be interested in this…
Not sure if it belongs here, but given who the story involves, this is the best place I could think of to put it (other than the happy thread maybe)
Neither compares to Corbyn on actual policy issues, the political landscape and issues that’ll be addressed are so vastly distant, even from Sanders. I’m not saying Trump wasn’t a political operator before he was elected, but his status and methods were definitely beyond the norm and his success was unexpected. Corbyn was a similar black swan moment for the Labour party.
People have many doubts about Corbyn but I can’t actually think of any politicians who are more sincere. That’s probably his undoing; it stops him being a savvy political operator and being able to please anyone when it would require adopting positions he doesn’t agree with. That was his problem with Brexit; he had philosophical issues with it (which I disagree with but respect), and came out as about 7.5 out of 10 in favour of it. Well, I believe he thinks that, but it wasn’t the rallying cry people wanted from Labour (nor was it the stirring patriotism many Brexit voters wanted) so he wasn’t able to please anyone really.
He hasn’t managed to articulate many policies, I think because the Labour party has reacted towards him with so much drama (which the media courts) that it’s been a challenge. I’ll watch the next few weeks of campaigning and see what he comes up with. What I’ve heard so far I’ve liked, and he’s delivered sensible reposts to various awful Tory positions.
The LIb Dems and Greens are a clear anti-Brexit option, but I’m not sure I see the point in that. I don’t really care about what Parliament thinks about Brexit, it probably won’t make much difference.
