Political Discussion Thread

Well, here we have stuff pretty ■■■■■■ too.
We have: A) an ex-president who made business when there was a border litigation between Chile and Peru, B) An asshole who gives continuum to the shitty policies we have had lately and C) a journalist who represents the new chilean politics (and some people are fearmongering about turning Chile into Venezuela)

Guess what. The A option ■■■■■■■ is leading the surveys.

Looks like the whole ■■■■■■■ world is annoyed, man …

Here in France, we had the worst debate in the history of the french republic (no joke at all, i’m not overracting, it’s really bad), men like Mitterrand or Chirac don’t exist anymore. Now we have a crazy old xenophobic blonde and Macron the ■■■■■■■ banker, son on the old ■■■■■■ government robbed us blind like there was no tomorrow.
The most scary and aggreveating thing is that everybody that I know says “don’t worry the FN won’t win”. Seems like they forgot what happened in the american election, god damnit.

If it’s any consolidation, the Dutch Trump lost in the Netherlands.

And Brexit! People have been a little too complacent lately.

dunno if this might be a coincidence, but…

Those who know some of history will know who was Pinochet.

Gotta admit, I know basically nothing about Chiles politics. Hell, I even know more about Venezuelas. Honestly, after thinking about it I don’t really know much about South American politics in general.

To be fair, they have some basis. This isn’t like Brexit or Trump where the polls show a close race, but everyone ignores them (and then turns around and blames them). The polling difference between the two is almost comically large, averaging a bit over 19 points. I’m not saying don’t be worried, but at the same time the two aren’t in the same situation.

The AHCA just passed the house.

Haven’t gotten to look at the exact projections for a Senate vote but I’m seeing it’s not expected to pass?

It’s an interesting question, the senate is more moderate and slower by design, but on the other hand the current activity in the senate has been anything but. Further, this is being done under reconciliation, they can pass this purely on party lines and still have spare votes, and honestly McConnell is not Ryan, I doubt we’ll see the type of basic fumbles the house engaged in. To contrast most of what I just said though, it’s not clear that McConnell wants to ignore senate rules again, and as is the legislation wouldn’t pass the Byrd rule unless they did so.

In plainer terms, I really don’t know.

French election has just been called in Macron’s favor for those who’re interested, 65.5% to 34.5%.

Oops we forgot about le collège électoral turns out Le Pen wins with a Superdélégué count of 370 to 68 some how.

HAH I AM KIDDING OFCOURSE

They’re actually having a run off of the run off where Macron runs against the top half of Le Pen sewn on to the bottom half of Fillon

As a french citizen : This is so beautiful. Abstention has never been that high. We did what we could to mess up this election.
You guys have to know that Macron had all the medias, CEOs, banks and the system supporting him. Hell, even François Hollande said that he supported Macron. He’s friend with billonaires that own 90% of the french media (Niel, Bouygyes, Dassaut etc …).
Macron isn’t what the people wanted. Macron is the result of a constant mediatic overkill. The reason why most people voted Macron is because they didn’t want Le Pen.

I’m very upset, but happy. This is kinda weird

the other 10% is France Televisions?
(I don’t have you on steam xD)

Yeah but no actually, France Televisions’ CEO is Delphine Ernotte which isn’t a billionaire. But France Televisions’ information is manipulated and controlled by the system. Hell, David Pujadas and Léa Salamé (two famous journalists that work for them) are good friends with Emmanuel Macron, this guy is friend with anything that involves ■■■■■■■ the french people in the ass xD

The rest of the 10% are the undependent and satirical media such as Mediapart (most famous undependent media) or Nordpresse (it’s 100% satirical and very funny).

But let’s look at the pros actually, I won’t return to Tunisia ^^

Reading your posts I realise how bad my knowledge is in regards of french politics and overall the current state of the country… I guess I know more about chilean politics, and that´s the other side of the globe O.O

I got some self-education to do.

You’ll hear about us soon, don’t worry mate
We’ll be in the streets, armed with peace, refusing this ■■■■■■■■ candidate supported by all the medias that misled people, making them vote Macron and telling them “he’s the candidate of change” which obviously is the opposite : he’s the candidate of the current system, he is Hollande’s hidden child.

As someone facing Brexit, the current system isn’t always the worst option :stuck_out_tongue: Better than le Pen, at least. (Though I know the ‘better than’ is a very very miserable thing to hear about your own country, I know!!)

It really hurts me to say so, but you’re damn right :joy:

Macron is better than Le Pen both economically and socially (saying this is like saying AIDS is better than cancer, don’t get me wrong lol). The problem is that we’re tired of this fake-ass right wing socialism that has been killing our country for 5 years now. People want change, but we only had 2 options because of the medias : either the fake changement that is Macron, or the awful changement that is Le Pen.
