I will probably get it despite not being interested in the fantasy setting and me not wanting to support Gearbox anymore, after the ■■■■ show that was/is Borderlands 3. The reason, as noted in another Thread is that I dearly miss Battleborn and alteast the action skills seem to be heavily influenced or outright reskinned versions of abilities from that game, add the character creator… and well Borderlands 3 gameplay is pretty much the only big thing I don’t despise.
As for the story/writing I don’t really have put my hopes high considering the ESBR description (Wonderlands is only rated T by the way) makes it clear this will be filled with poop jokes just the same:
Summary
This is a first-person shooter in which players assume the role a character within a fantasy tabletop role-playing game. As players explore graphic novel-style environments, they traverse landscapes, interact with characters, complete missions/quests, and battle humans and creatures (e.g., skeletons, zombies, land sharks) in frenetic combat. Players use pistols, crossbows, machine guns and melee weapons (e.g., axes, swords) to kill enemy forces. Battles are highlighted by realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and green or blue blood-splatter effects. During a prolonged sequence, a tree creature is depicted emitting red blood. The game contains some suggestive/sexual material in the dialogue (e.g., “My goblin loins are moist with dew, when my eyes are locked on you”; “As if I could be seen knocking boots with that poor thing”; “I would rather be cpulating on a unicorn”; “Just keep it in your pants, ok darling.”). A handful of enemy creatures (e.g., goblins, mushroom men, zombies) are depicted with exposed buttocks. During the course of one mission, players must wait for a pet creature to defecate and then collect its feces. The words “dck,” “prck,” and “as” are heard in the game.
I have the smallest hope it is a little better because Matt Cox was also responsible for Bounty of Blood, which I loved, but I’m probably just delusional here seeing as he isn’t the writer himself.
For all chances even if this turns out to be really great then there is still the biiiig gripe that this isn’t a Borderlands game and doesn’t move the story forward, which at best will just make me angry that non of the awesome levels, enemies etc. are present in Borderlands 3…
One last thing I would like to get off my mind is, not speaking about our community here but rather people over at reddit, is how a lot of people are arguing that this game is going to be running/working way better than Borderlands 3 because it was in development for the past 10 years. I can only scratch my head about this because it was conceptualized for the past 10 years, if anything “real” working started after they switched engines, which was what 2016? And that should really tell you anything about it because it will have the same design flaws by default because of said engine and even if they patched the code we saw how BL3 was going back and forth with every patch it received. So at best it will work at launch but will suffer in some way the first time someone adds a patch or hotfix, atleast that’s what I’m suspecting.
Anyway I applaud everyone that has the guts to stay strong and not give Gearbox anymore money and no this isn’t meant to insult anyone that still does
