Potential Action Skill and Ability predictions for Borderlands 3

I’m BigBadDogIV And I Approve This Post (assuming it’s implemented right)

I loved tiny tina in Borderlands 2 but i hated how her character was in the TPS. Quite frankly i couldn’t get enuff of her in BL2 and it’s DLCs but i’ve had far more of her then i care too from the TPS. If there going to continue her the same way they did in TPS i would personally prefer she not return at all to preserve the remaining fondness i have for her from BL2.

I adore this idea, and i encourage you to build upon it. So far i like what i’m hearing!

I definitely agree.

I think an interesting idea for a melee-oriented character would be for them to have a grappling hook as an action skill.

You have my attention, could you maybe give a small idea of how it would work in combat and be implemented?

Basically, you’d use the grappling hook to reel yourself to enemies and gain huge melee bonus which increases, the closer you get the enemy. As an action skill, it would have a short cooldown, allowing it chained for against groups of enemies. Skills could involve gaining buffs for successful grappling hook strikes or skills for tanking.

Agreed, unless we are going to be able to have romances like Dragon Age or Fable, leave the character’s sexual preferences out of it. If it isn’t integrated with gameplay, it becomes sociopolitical commentary.

I’d like something as simple as a foot stomp which stuns enemies nearby, skills could enhance its radius, turn it into a singularity, add knock-back, add explosive damage; game changers could alter it to cause a super jump which ends with a foot-stomp effect upon landing (for entering the fray with a bang) or cause a shockwave which travels out in front of the char doing damage to all in the path.

I actually had a character who’s action skill was basically this.

Shoot, lets change the framework up a bit. I know this isn’t action skill specific, but it would be cool if there was an enhancement to the skill trees which would allow you to spend points “between” trees to allow you to link skills for unique effects which would need to be experimented with to know what happened. One that would be an easy to figure example would be a skill that adds explosive damage to melee attacks when linked to a skill in a different tree which improves fire rate and clip size of sniper rifles would add explosive damage to sniper rifles and increase melee attack speed. Since some would create very powerful combos and some might create new effects entirely, it would take more than a single skill point to link them.

So, perhaps they need to start going down the path of “choose this skill or that skill”. Somewhat like diablo 3’s system. I’m having trouble picturing how you would link skills though. But I’m sure they’ll figure out something interesting.

I’ve had an idea for a while how they could do multiple action skills.

Have 3 chosable action skills at level 5 or 3 or whatever. Choosing one locks out the other 2.

As usual each character has 3 skill trees each based on a playstyle. The difference being that when you select a action skill all the skills relating to that the skill change. So it’s actually 3 skills taking the slot of one on the tree. The skills that arnt related to the action skill don’t change.

Very interesting… I’d like that.

I like the idea behind hidden synergy between different skills, it could definitely create some new gameplay experiences. Id like to see some different variances to melee, even different weapons, to me if your going to go the different action skill route, then also we should see bladed weapons disappear and full on actual weapons make a appearance. For Athena for example if shes playable in the next game, have different swords with elemental properties or have explosive damage arc on kills or something. Bricks punching I could see improved, like a burst mode to speed on kill, maybe make it stackable possibly? Even Mordecais trees could have even greater potential to work in tangen with his new bird maybe marking his targets crit spots with his scent making either the damage greater or more identifiable to hit it. Just some ideas circling my mind.

Hmmm, it’s not a terrible idea. I’d like to see just how it might work. I think it definitely has potential especially when considering the use as you suggested. My only fear would be that a concept so complex is either hit or miss. It has the potential to be amazing or suck, with little to no in between. But overall, great idea.

I had a character idea I posted that honestly sounds like 99% of the ideas on here.

Bees?

BEES?

BEEEEEEEEEES!!!

I could see things like say you have Brick and Krieg on screen, that after so many kills or alternate melee kills say a skill like bloodlust would trigger, and their durations of their action skills would increase maybe. Even perhaps if Lilith and Maya are on screen together, some kind of hidden Siren ability would occur but certain conditions needing to be met. Things like this could breathe new life into already existing characters.

Ahh, co-op action skill synergies or sharing does sound very nice. That could even be a new character’s action skill - to choose any other VHs action skill to use, or a capstone would allow combining other VHs action skills. tough to work into single player though - it would either be random (ick) or would work like a wheel chooser (like how I imaginge Aualia’s sniper capstone to work) with you able to choose from all available ASs, but if you happen to be in a game with a VH with those ASs and you combine them, then they also get the benefit of the combo for the duration.
