Too bad the digital deluxe was $40 for only a short while. I was gonna buy a few for my friends that are still on the fence. Hopefully some people took advantage of the sale and will add to the community.
I have read some say they are upset. And I can understand that. But I think Amazon could have initiated this just because I have seen this before from them. Not counting Prime sales and the new thing where Prime members save some on new releases but before that. I picked up a few games that were either accidently listed at as much as 50% off or they had a 1-2 day sale. Typically other places might price match but I had seen people post about GS, BB, etc. not always matching the price back then. And Amazon would not always match the price of other places because I would call and they would not match the sale price on occation.
I am not sure what caused this sale. It could be the game did not move as much. Or that with Overwatch coming the retailers wanted to try and move more. Could even be the publisher deciding to work with retailers on something like that. But the thing for me, if I had purchased outside the sale, would be if the game returned to original price. If not then this seems to be the fasters price reduction I can remember seeing outside of a quick sale here and there after launch of some games (even big name ones).
Itâs funny cuz I agree with this. And this game is kinda addicting so even knowing it would be on sale, I still prolly wouldâve paid the $80âŚbut I also feel that would make me an idiot lol I guess what doesnât sit well is Iâve literally NEVER seen a game I spent this much money on go down to half price in just a few weeks. Itâs not a HUGE deal or anything but I can understand other peopleâs views on it.
I bought at $60 for the standard edition on PS4 and after seeing this I am really conflicted. I donât think itâs directly Gearboxâs fault for this as it is a retailer sale (but they did drop a huge megaton sized ball on advertising). I cannot help to feel a bit jipped though because had I waited an extra week I could have gotten it with the DLC at a CHEAPER price than what I paid for it. Itâs not going to stop me from playing because I love it, but it would be nice if Gearbox showed some love towards early adopters with free dlc passes (or maybe future Borderlands dlc passes if you bought the delux edition). Iâll probably just take out my frustration on noobs muahahaha (jk I love newcomers no matter how stupid you may play).
Dude itâs not that serious. Itâs also not difficult to understand nor is it a âslap in the faceâ. Theyâre a business and they want money so when they released the game obviously it was a full priced game. They want as many people as possible to pay as much money as possible. Companies drop prices when sales go down. Unfortunately battleborn sales probably slowed down very quickly. It wasnât that popular to begin with. Not only that but they have competition from OW meaning they could potentially lose customers who were on the fence about buying it. They drastically lower the price, they get all the guys who want a new fps game with heroes n special abilities but donât wanna pay $60+. Who cares if itâs only been like 2 weeks, the price wouldâve gone down eventually and either way you wouldâve already paid full price. What do you expect for them to tell you not to purchase their product yet because itâll be on sale soon? Lol thatâd be an extremely stupid business move. Gamers nowadays have a sense of entitlement as if developers owe us something. They created a product, we purchased it. Aside from the season pass dlc, they owe us nothing.
This guy has the right idea.
There are a few resources that would be helpful in tackling a position like this. The thing is? I understand that anyone would be upset, but this isnât at all uncommon.
Letâs start off with the devaluation of properties over time. This is naturally a part of capitalism and when the initial surge of buyers occurs, you want your product to actually be at what you â the seller â consider to be an ideal price-point. The thing is is that that influx is never going to happen again, but you need to create further influxes to actually keep selling your product.
This happens in one of two ways. Either worth is added to the product to justify its continued price as a luxury over time, or the product is devalued in order to bring in extra money as a part of sales or price drops. Look at video game consoles as a prime example, they might start off at six hundred or so of your regional currency, and then drop down to 250 or so of said currency over their lifetime.
With videogames, this devaluation cycle is much quicker because youâre not making a product thatâs going to have such a long lifespan.
I remember a brilliant post by Jeff Vogel (of Spiderweb Software, he makes games that I happen to like, even if I have to use Windows Magnifier to play them). I honestly wish I could find it as it would serve to illustrate this point beautifully. He talks about how to properly handle sales and the discounting of software, because people need to make money to cover their costs, and a profit by which to live.
And he explains how he handles his games. First starting off at full price for the inital rush, then having a small discount, and then appearing in sales and finally bundles. Thatâs how he sells his games. This is a common practise.
Why did you pay more money than someone else? You paid to get in first. You paid to have a bunch of max level characters, kitted out, with loads of customisations and taunts unlocked. Thatâs a privilege you paid for. Thatâs what the difference in cost is between you and another.
Now, you might not have taken advantage of the time you had, but thatâs really not the fault of a company that needs to sell their games to stay in business.
On the flipside of this, there are going to be people whoâll be kicking themselves about not having gotten in sooner. They may have friends doing PvP and advanced PvE with kitted out characters and they have to start from the very bottom. Do you remember the first time you played Battleborn, back when you did that mission as Mellka?
Remember how that was? Thatâs where theyâll be. That youâre not there, thatâs what youâre paying for. Youâre paying for privilege. If you didnât want privilege, then â as with every video game on the market â you simply could have waited for the inevitable discount.
Honestly, I see no problem with this. Itâs just capitalism, the world we live in and all that.
And from my perspective? Battleborn serves such underserved and starved niches that Iâm happy I paid them the full amount. Twice. And season passes. Twice. I still feel like I havenât actually settled my accounts there though for the fun Iâve had. I paid that as much as a copy of Battleborn for Fallout 4 and quickly lost interest in what I felt â to me â was an overly safe plot that never really went anywhere other than âxenophobia is cool.â
Not at all my thing.
I got sidetracked, sorry. Anyway, Iâm really happy to support them. And the privilege of getting in early was a nice one. I just see absolutely no problem with this. So I, for one, am not going to belly-ache over it!
Of course, whatever anyone else does is their prerogative. But thatâs my reasoning.
A price was set before launch, you paid that price, and you got the product. There was no deception or trickery. If you are concerned about price drops making you feel like the product you purchased is now devalued or not worth what you paid, wait. It is that simple, especially with goods we know drop regularly, like video games.
Keep in mind it is more common for multiplayer-focused games to drop their price sooner than a game focused more on single player, for the sole reason that you can enjoy a single player game forever, but with a mutiplayer game when the players go, the game is effectively gone, too. It is likely Battleborn is faring worse than Gearbox and 2K expected, and Overwatch coming out is not going to help. I would rather see a price drop and players flood in than the game die slowly, making any amount paid useless.
People have been complaining about a low playerbase. This is a means to up that playerbase. Damned if you do, damned if you donâtâŚ
You never seen a game go 50% off in 3 weeks of its release? How about before it even comes out⌠Be amazed!
No I agree and completely under the reasoning.
I personally donât like how this went down because I started off wrong from the start. I purchased this relatively expensive package with a certain expectation of what I would receive.
It is now clear that it what I attempted to purchase is not available and what they intedned to offer is now available at significant discount compared to what was available two-ish weeks ago.
I think itâs more of the series of misteps that has left me with a bad tastes.
Not the price drop in and of itself
This sale looks awesome! I played probably 80+ hours on the beta and did really enjoy it. I reported a few bugs and the like and really liked the feedback from GB about it. This will hopefully expand the player base. I agreed to pay the full price of the Digital Deluxe and not even mad about a sale. I remember waiting a few weeks when Skyrim was released and waited for a price drop such as this because I was on the edge about getting it. These sales with do nothing but help the community (hopefully) and get more people involved.
This again?
Shady site is shady. Selling Overwatch digital keys is the prime indicator : Blizzard disallow anyone but them from selling digital keys. And itâs just as bad if they are selling a physical copy CDkey without actually shipping the physical content.
I wouldnât trust these kind of sites ever. They always have prices too good to be true even before the launch of a game.
If its that cheap itâs prolly a russian key which is not a legitimate price.
I preordered a digital deluxe edition, have been playing the game happily for a while now and I am happy with what i paid. I see no issue with this âsaleâ and thats what it is. This is not a âprice dropâ and if it was then fine, there has been so much complaining about matchmaking and wait times, this will actually bring more players in and improve those issues and all most of you can do is complain more?
I dont see your pointâŚ
Well I buy all my PC games from there⌠Shady as in what? My games all play and I never had an issue, what is the problem?
To everyone defending thisâŚ
No, this is not normal. It is not normal for a game to go on sale for 47% off, 3 weeks after release. Not normal at all. And itâs not just Amazon. Bestbuy, Game / eB games. Walmart. This is clearing stock.
I didnât purchase the game, but I feel for all the buyers who did. Paying 80$, 3 weeks go, for a game you love and plan to play for years potentially, only for it to be slashed in half 3 weeks later? A giant â â â â you to Early Adopters?
Also, the Battleborn Twitter advertises these sales. So stop saying they had no part in them.
Well at least maybe you can afford to buy it now, yeah?
Eh, I wanna see where itâs at in another three weeks. That said, if Iw as going to buy it, wouldâve bought it in CDkeys already for like 27$.
Nice price drop after 3 weeks⌠this is so dishonoredâŚafter 3 feeks = 20$, more 3 weeks = free. Nice
