PSA: Please Stop Leaving Matches

Man I have yet to be in a match where everyone on the opposite team quit. Poor Orendi. Usually someone quits, the team gets steam rolled at the first sentry, then we all give up/win via surrender.

This happened to us recently, my team was fairly high level (two 100s, rest high 70’s 80’s) and naturally the other team was all levels 2-8. They fought for a while, then one left, then another, then two.

Only one Oscar was left. He would run up to us and do his pushup taunt while getting killed. It sucked, but sometimes the humor of BB can take the edge off. I still wish there was some way to tell the overmatched/new enemy team to stick it out, or tell them we will fight with no skills, or something.

I disagree, just because YOU want the match to end doesn’t mean that everyone else should suffer for it. I’ve lost winnable matches because a few were performing poorly and voted for surrender after losing the first sentry. I’ve lost matches on Incursion that were tied 100-100 and worst of all Meltdown matches that we were winning because a few players who were underperforming decided to surrender. The vote should be unanimous, it’s not fair that a few salty players get to decide whether my match ends or not based on their own personal performance, it’s a TEAM game and a surrender should require the whole team to vote for, not just the majority. Allowing players to surrender in this way encourages negative behaviour, oh I’m doing badly so I’ll just vote for surrender. No, you play for the TEAM not for yourself.

This is only true if you join someone else and queue with them, otherwise you can only join back on the game you left or wait for it to end before you can queue again. Even then, you shouldn’t be able to leave mid-match to join someone else. You can’t even start a private versus match until the match you left is over.

Since the update, if you quit a match all of your stats are lost and no match rewards (credits, XP) are given. Those who quit because of deaths/K:D (and I suspect there are quite a few) are playing the wrong game and I report them all, deaths are additive between PvP and PvE so you’ll never accurately know your K:D and even so it’s not displayed to anyone but yourself if you care to check.

I’m not saying that you do not know this or that K:D matters to you, but it doesn’t matter to the game and we need to make that clear to new players and old alike, I’ve seen many Benedicts (not singlimg anyone out but I call this the “Benedict mentality”) who spend all game chasing kills and only destroy minions accidentally when firing at enemy Battleborn, this is a blatant misuse of his splash damage potential to clear waves, I’ve lost matches because of this and won matches against enemy “chaser” Benedicts because they let their teams down. Top kills, highest K:D, least minions and ultimately team loss. I wish there were a report option for players who have blatant disregard for the objective and who cost their teams wins because they’re playing CoD, I’ve topped kills and minions many times, it’s not that hard and beneficial to your team if you clear a wave first then chase kills between waves, Benedict should never have the least minions.

Err, what’s the topic again? /end rant.

That’s why I didn’t know people could go back into the queue. I only ever queue up as a solo player and the only time I leave a game is when I have a random connection error and join back in.

I actually just commented on this in another thread. While I understand exactly what you are saying and can completely empathize with it, my only issue is that the game doesn’t provide a tutorial, save for the very quick explanation prior to the pvp match starting.

I can’t fault the players entirely. I direct fault at the fact that there is no built in tutorial/ video explaining what people should do in each mp mode and how to win. It’s possible some people got to CR 100 strictly through PVE (although unlikely), but PVE teaches you nothing of the pvp modes.

Granted, some know exactly what to do and just forego the objective strictly to pad their K:D.

Until GBX puts in an mp tutorial/short video of the basic elements players need to understand in mp to win, you could be reporting someone that honestly just does not know any better because the time wasn’t taken to inform them.

I recall being CR 2 loading up MP for the first time and kind of hearing Nova in the background talking, but I was more focussed on what helix option I was going to pick. The doors opened and I had no idea what was going on.

IMO, I don’t think they can put in an unsportsmanlike report function until they actually explain to people how the game works.

Cheers.

I feel like this is more than enough, simply because you hear it at the start of every match, it’s reminding you tnat you’re not playing team deathmatch butsome people simply choose to ignore any part of the word “objective”

Oh me too, there’s so much going on and so little time to learn it all lol, maybe then a tutorial would be a good idea, the Prologue isn’t really applicable to PvP. I don’t report people under CR50, but by the time you’re CR100 there’s no excuse for blatantly disregarding the objective of the game and playing CoD.

I do not have a screen shot of the team’s CR beforehand so I can’t accurately say what rank they exactly were, but I can say my group was full of randoms, and myself and one other teammate were the only 100s on the team with the others trailing behind from the 50s to the 80s [basically some seasoned players] and the opponents were at around the same levels as my team and two were in a premade. I don’t remember if the Orendi was a beginner but i added the higher ranks quitting and leaving the lower ranks because it is a growing trend, this match was just the straw that broke the camels back for me.

I honestly can’t say if repercussions have been dealt with those who are reported, but it does put me at ease that there is a way to combat less than favorable players, so i kinda agree with you, but i don’t think it’s there for that reason. I have faith in gearbox the that they’ll dish out some punishment sooner or later [if they already haven’t]

There will be no repercussions towards players reported for this behavior. As long it is not hurting the game economy or the industry way to make profit, players that leave matches won’t have any major consequences. Like I said, it is just another false security method that most players fail to realize. It is like when you are required to sign when you pay with your credit card in the supermarket. Do you think something happens if you sign under another person’s name or even sign as “This is Fraud”?..of course not!

In my opinion the less than favorable players are those that wish to do permanent harm to other players(like getting them banned) because they enjoy the game differently.

One of my first matches on release day all of my opponents save for the Miko quit. He was getting Thralls. I pinged him. Our entire team slapped him off of the ledge. Oh, the good ol days.

Unfortunately, I get weird exception errors sometimes, and get kicked out of the game. :frowning:

Observation: They really left that person all alone? Wow, dick move of the highest caliber.

I really don’t understand people rage-quitting instead of surrendering. If you’re not having fun, just call for a surrender vote. If the match is going poorly, there’s a decent chance it will go through.

Overall, I’m glad we can now report leavers so I’m hoping once some bans start coming down, we’ll see less of this behavior. Again, I just can’t make any sense out of it though. Better to just surrender.

Didn’t someone somewhere post that rage-quitting doesn’t record any stats of the match? Could see people being OCD about that instead of having a surrender on their record. Not saying it’s right though, definitely not.

Were familiar with what to do but new players haven’t the slightest idea. Remember when we first picked up the game? Clusterfuck but fun, eventually you learn

the grind in this game is laborious, slow, and requires lots of wins

because of that players are highly motivated to bail on matches that don’t get them to their progression goals

blame gbox’s progression system

Oh, I recall. I was SOOO lost until someone took the time to explain What the heck was going on. Mostly because I asked questions. Unfortunately, not many people on Xbox use their mic, so they do t ask the questions. I can’t do much about that though.

The difference for me was that I got to learn the game during the CTT where everyone was kind of on the same playing field. I couldn’t imagine starting now when tons of people have a firm grasp of the characters.

Grind to what? Titles? Literally nothing in this game REQUIRES wins except for titles which are cosmetic and not part of progression at all. By leaving matches, people are harming their own progression by not getting XP for playing. Maybe I’m forgetting something, but I have no idea what you are talking about.

I’m sorry but i have to disagree. When they leave matches they get little to no xp and so they hinder their own progression. Gearbox is not to blame, it’s the players who leave are at fault.
