PVP Talk: What Borderlands 3 Can learn from Battleborn and other shooters(+Video)

Honestly, I think the idea of PvP in Borderlands is cancer. There are duels, isn’t that enough?

I’m confused, wasn’t the handsome jack collection just all 3 games?

Only bl2 and pre sequel.

Did you read my post?

I said I deplore pvp. I don’t like it and don’t want anything to do with it.

Yeah, I did. I was agreeing

Either way this guy is making it sound like the handsome collection was its own game. His post is still confusing

I feel like PvP has no place in Borderlands.
There are other games that do it better, and the duels were just a means to a trophy, really.

Maybe a bit more open dueling, like allowing players to take up positions in different parts of the map for sniper duels would have made it more interesting, but I wouldn’t be sad to see it go.

I dont want borderlands ever to be focused on pvp. However it would be really cool if you could turn pvp on in the arenas like finks or murderlins temple. You could say… bet eridium or whatever for the prize. There doesnt need to be a leaderboard or anything and they shouldnt put a lot of focus on balancing the game to pvp. Just a fun alternate mode to goof around in.

Unlocking things through duels? People would just play against each other and give wins or better yet, play with splitscreen and just cheese eridium all day.

If BL3 has a pvp element like Battleborn I won’t even bother with the game at all.

I think the best solution would be to just add the Borderlands3 characters to Battleborn for those who want to PvP with them.

I’ve been playing Destiny almost exclusively the last couple of years. As much as I enjoy the pvp competition, it’s proven to be an absolute cancer to pve players and their experience because weapons are balanced on the pvp aspect.

If you want overpowered weapons and fun times in pve, which is what I think of with Borderlands, then best leave pvp out of Borderlands 3.

Want proof? Go take a look at the Bungie.net forums and see how much salt is generated because players die too much in the Crucible. Then look how Bungie does their Weapon and Class tuning.

It’s the same story with the Division.

Wasn’t the Division supposed to be the Destiny slayer? lol

I just can’t imagine with all the fun we have with the maths, the weapons, the skill trees and builds, and creating the most overpowered characters in Borderlands that there is going to be place for pvp competition that maintains some type of balance. It can’t even happen with relatively simple subclasses in Destiny much less adding the complexity of skill trees that Gearbox delivers. If Gearbox introduces pvp into Borderlands we would be inundated with constant cries for balancing (i.e., nerfs) to weapons, skills, classes, etc., just because some kid can’t cope with losing. The mantra that gets repeated on a daily basis is that if you die from a gun or subclass skill then it’s overpowered and needs to be nerfed. I don’t want to see a Borderlands game razed because of salty whiners.

I really hope they don’t introduce PVP. Plenty of other games have that and it’s not what I’m playing Borderlands for.

I really hate when “balance” in PVP kills the fun in PVE.

Agreed borderlands is special as it is, any imitation of any other formula and it might lose what makes it special. Personally, I think Gearbox should keep this away from PvP, and let’s get real here, Battleborn didn’t sell as well as the company hoped. People have flocked to games like Overwatch and other titles. Let’s let the company simply improve on what was great about BL 1 and 2 and watch them create a masterpiece. Just wish Pitchford would have been direct on his tweet for Pax that there really wasn’t any game news to be talked about that voice over for the political debate I could have missed out on and been fine. Next time I may wait to see something on YouTube rather than watch a livestream.

What if gearbox completely changed the way PvP is thought of in a FPS and you don’t fight your opponent.

Like have a race to a procedurally generated vault and the raid boss located there. Winning team is based off of damage dealt vs damage taken with a time bonus. We would get to raid new vaults and still collect loot but it would satisfy the competitive spirit some players enjoy.

Just a quick idea but I dont think the idea of PvP needs to just be tossed out just because its borderlands.

That isn’t PvP.

It is if the games are overlapping. Like Team A can activate something that makes the mission more difficult for the other team.

Ever see the kid game shows in the 90s? Like legends of the hidden temple. They race against someone on a different course and get points for various things. It’s still player vs player.

Okay, so you’re arguing for a more indirect PvP mechanic. I guess that would be pretty interesting as it’s not a conventional pvp format.
