Testing can be very redundant, but that’s where black box testing comes in. Get your Acceptance Testing done, then do some high level regression, and when time permits do black box (bang things until it breaks).

Unfortunately QA is considered “dime a dozen”, so it can be a bit tough to get into unless you know someone, or have experience with the tools. I’d highly recommend building a portfolio filled with information/examples from any beta testing you’ve performed. Of course exclude anything that would violate an NDA.

As a software noob and someone who doesn’t test often…what would “acceptance criteria” BE? I mean, I can write “I’m pretty sure my character shouldn’t walk through this wall,” but what if it’s more complicated than that? Oo

Acceptance Criteria is the intended behavior. Example:

Summary:
When I select Phoebe as my hero my PC catches on fire

Description:
When a user selects the hero Phoebe an issue occurs that causes the PC they are on to burst into flames.

Acceptance Criteria:

  • Regardless of which hero is selected a user’s PC should not burst into flames

Recreate Steps:
Pre-condition(s); be at hero select screen

  1. Select Phoebe

The PC being on fire has become my “go-to” when complaining about something at work. Gets some chuckles which is nice when under a tight deadline.

The definition I gave is about as basic as it gets, but I figured it worked for this environment. No reason to bog down a post with industry jargon and risk confusion. If you have any other questions feel free to reach out. I’ll likely be here somewhere lurking.

While I do agree… That’s a bit harsh… Especially to a mod who probably doesn’t have much control over it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sick and tired of unfinished, buggy, ugly game releases in the last years. Was never so bad. So we come here and help so we can actually a) see the progress and b) slap the developers with test results before the game is released. But its kinda hard when the only feedback option that allows people to talk freely, is not up.

good job! Had a similar form when I tested other games.

I usually have the specs first so they know what they are dealing with.

Yeah I get it, but also keep in mind they may have goals other than bugs for this particular test. Tbh it seems like a pre-alpha state game and it’s a very small slice of the game so they are very likely aware of most (if not all) the bugs people will constantly spam them with over and over as soon as those forums go up.

I actually wonder what their specific goals are with this CTT are. If they’re looking at things like server load or stats or balance or just seeing people’s general impressions.

That having been said, I’d love to be able to discuss aspects of the game with other people. :smile:

Agree, they could be just testing the matchmaking system to see it works (wasnt working for many at first, then worked fine)

I think the main goal of this Technical test is to stress test the servers, and see how much pressure each person puts on a server, to calculate server size and cost for the release

Its no big case of breaking, but a slight. Depends on the perspective, to be sure just do not talk about it anywhere in the web, no matter how tedious the info may look. :heart:
