Quitting matches

You’re arguing in circels mate.

This line seems to be clear to me. I’m sticking to my point that you should never ragequit. Vote to surrender, and if it fails suffer through. Having a bad game is no excuse to get up and leave. If you do ragequit often, you’ll never experience the rare but amazingly satisfying comebacks.

Yeah, this seems to be a new trend. Same thing happened to me on an Incursion match. Our first sentry took a little damage like 4 minutes in and someone calls for surrender. Then he quits the match when we didn’t surrender.

The match went on for another good 15 minutes before my team surrendered while we still had both our sentry’s up. The first one was like at half life.

People are so selfish and take things way too serious. Just have fun.

Isn’t rage quitting quitting when your team just sucks and is losing? And doesn’t it involve “rage”? Neither of those things are what I am addressing here, and I am fine with those players being punished.

Quit the semantics.

It’s still ragequitting, by any other name.

Your justification for quitting is not ample to not call it ragequitting. The only reason I quit sometimes is because of lagg. I restart my ps4 and come back into the game asap (it works for me, probably bad wifi).

Absolutely it is. Situational factors make it justifiable to quit when you don’t even start with a complete team, or your team is standing around at the top of the map chasing other players while completely ignoring the fact the other team has all of them, or is completely destroying yours? You know the one or two disconnected players at character select screen are not going to be replaced… You would waste your time entering a race if you were told you only get half a gas tank and your pit crew is only going to change tires, not refuel or do anything else? Who wants to be forced to play with half of a deck of cards?

You can quit in the character selection screen when someone does not connect. Than everyone will be booted and be better of for it. You making a 4v5 a 3v5 when the match has started is even more nasty than the first guy that left.

This is ragequitting. You’re angry at your team, and leave.

Again, the game will disconnect when 2 people on the same team leave the game. So just leave during character selection when you see that one of your teammates does not connect.

Uhm… Yes… No? idk what you’re trying to say, really… If someone lets me compete in a race I would join regardless just for ■■■■■ and giggles. Drive the wrong way just like in Mariokart.

  1. how do you do that? I have never seen that option and close the app. Once I return, it still forces me to play that match

  2. Fine, both are “rage quitting”, but there is a clear distinction between players trying and just being terrible, and those not working with the team. One involves lack of emotional control on one individual, the other is the selfishness and individualism of teammates. I can, and have taken severe beatings in this game before and stayed. However, when one mode turns into TDM, why should anyone want to, or have to stay? This is a team based game. Sure, there is a certain level of individualism to expect while playing, such as players doing the objectives by themselves instead of working together, but at least those players try. I don’t play Battleborn to play TDM, I am pretty sure many others don’t either.

  3. I have not seen that. I have seen a match get cancelled even though there were 5 on each team. If it is supposed to happen, it would be nice if it did, but then we are getting into separate issues of the often long match making wait times.

  4. My point being, why should anyone be forced to engage in something competitive when they are either knowingly going to lose before the competition even starts, or if their team is not even going to try? Yes, it is fun to run around backwards like in mario cart, but when others are relying on you to help the team, then that can be done at another time, or in a different game.

  • To an extent, I understand that some people do not like playing certain maps, just kind of sucks when I want to play a match with 5 people and end up having to only play with 1.

  • On top of the fact of getting " disconnected " from the match, the only punishment is towards the people who are still trying to play by making them wait X amount of seconds.

The only thing that will help lower the amount of quitters is fixing some of the reasons why people leave in the first place; Fix the matchmaking, Fix FPS problems on certain maps, Refine the Lore Challenges that encourage quitting.

Of course there should be some harsher penalties in place - Some people leave just because they aren’t doing well even when it has nothing to do with above points. But the main reasons people leave for should be improved before implementing harsh leaver penalties.

In the next gearbox needs to just remove people who are disconnected and put in people who are searching for a game in their spot. I just sat for 15 mins trying to get a capture map game going on and when we finally get to vote for the stage. Someone leaves

I think the problems im seeing are early surrenders, and poor teammates. I do not have a problem with the respawn times. The time from matchmaking to game start can take a while, but I don’t think that it is too bad. I think this can be solved with a competitive mode. An arena mode or league mode that call of duty has done. It should weed out most of the weaker players, and it could be more punishable when a player quits. You can have it progress to gain loot packs or camos and it can be more punishable for quitters.

I would like to see hot swapping characters instead of having people “locked in” so i stop getting 4 on 5 matches.

I would like to see surrender require 4 of 5 votes.

I also think gearbox should just man up and make a ladder mode with all these moba tournament rules for the pvp obsessed and let the rest of the casuals be a bit freer.

I agree that this should be implemented in the character selection screen but I’m not convinced on it being implemented during the game itself. The latter would bring all sorts of issues including what to do about helix upgrades (start again from level 1 or gain the levels already earned - there’d be a big debate on the fairness of either option).

Yeah, i could see that being a pain to implement. Maybe give xp of lowest member of the team?

However for a non-ladder game i’d rather have the extra character pop in instead of be down 1-2 characters and get instantly steamrolled.

My experience of people who quit are typically:

  • They don’t get the character they wanted at the selection screen, so quit at that point
  • They start badly, getting 0 or hardly any kills and several deaths, so disappear shortly afterwards
  • The team is losing, they vote to surrender, the vote fails, they quit after this

I’m sure there are other reasons why people quit, however this is what I have experienced in the many games I’ve played.

I’m not sure that being able to change character, whether at the character selection screen (which I do agree with) or in-game, would solve these quit reasons.

This has generally been my experience as well. I cant count how many times someone has dived the enemy team right out of the gates and died, then quits 10 seconds later. They need to implement much stronger leaver penalties.

Well the quitting from games still continues as before, not every match but it’s still happening too frequently.

Last night saw an extreme case from the other team. We were playing Incursion and my team was on a push at their first sentry. It was taking damage but wasn’t down. I then noticed that two of their team quit, putting the rest at an immediate disadvantage. This was followed by two more quits in short succession, leaving just one poor player on their own. Needless to say the match was over shortly afterwards.

As you can see from the screenshot, the first two that disappeared (Reyna & Montana) appeared to be AFKers (going by the Zzzzzz on their images). The other two just left.

There didn’t appear to be any surrender vote on the other team (as you will get notified if a surrender vote fails). So two just went AFK and then disconnected and the other two just abandoned their team mate.

It’s a shame that this quitting is continuing in Battleborn. I really do hope that Gearbox implement something similar to what Overwatch have implemented that I posted about here:

Part of the problem now is the auto rematch system. Sometimes you’re just going over the stats of the last match and you don’t plan on playing again. But with the new system you get tossed into the next game.

I need to back out as soon as the match is over now when I know it’s my last game.

Yeah, they could do with a leave matchmaking option from the match stats screen.
