Another wonderful catch up, thanks guys!

Was going through my old, old Flickr uploads and came across this photo I had taken in 2007 of my ex Leah wearing this Sonic Youth t-shirt I had just bought her, with a lyric with intense personal meaning for us.

Deep sadness, heartbreak, and anger were brought up by seeing it, but also good memories, fondness, and the realization that I really miss her, almost 11 years later.

OK, here’s an odd one:

What I want to know is, did the cops think to also check the horse for intoxication? I’ve heard of several equines with a taste for the hooch.

Riding a drunk horse sounds terrifying

More bizarre news, this time from our friends on Elpis in Australia:

That must be why all the Aussie Battleborn players were always complaining of red-bar?!

Well, this is interesting:

Not sure it’s that much better “North of the 49th” - things certainly seem to be deteriorating here, too.

I’m offended by this somehow

I read that more as an attack against hedonism honestly, something I’ve generally found dubious, both in terms of assuming it’s a peculiar affliction of a given era of humanity, and in its supposed results. Honestly I’d say either The Republic or that Mencken quote that’s always floating around are the most on the nose for the current era.

This one?

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Presumably we should replace ‘downright’ with ‘f-ing’.

That’s the one, wasn’t sure if I should post it. Heh.

Sounds like you were vaccinated against such behaviour by liberal doses of satire and scepticism from a young age.

Unfortunately, the description seems to fit an ever-increasing segment of the population. (Insert the word “mindless” or “unintelligent” in front of “entertainment”, and look at some of what’s being offered/popular.)

Besides, I don’t know how else to explain the mindless jumping-on-bandwagons of torrential twitterstorms and facebook indignation indulgences.

This is beautiful VH101.

It was in jest, we’re all here for entertainment and I often act the fool.

But I cant say I agree entirely. People are as they always have been, it’s the volume of our voices that’s grown.

Indeed, beautifully put! Mindless seld indulgence is what let´s twitter, instagram & facebook thrive.
Entertainment always had a “flat” and a “deep” part, but due to the velocity of media it´s easier to follow the path of flat, easy entertainment. It´s easier to watch 12 Marvel-movies in a year and cope with it, than to watch all movies of Mamoru Oshii and reflect the matters & metaphors.

To be entertained when honestly bored is one thing, to live in order to get entertained another, because this form of life excludes real boredom. It also excludes any form of true self-fulfillment and growth. One easily can become nothing more than a vessel for random information, with no actual process, growth or life.

True. Yet we´ve all the wish to be more than our previous generations - be it in numbers or in being more cultured, wise, mannered or educated.

This basically. While I’d certainly agree that we’re more vulnerable to demagoguery as a society, I’m a lot less sure about the idea of modern humanity fundamentally differing in shallowness. Every generation seems to wind up having previous ones argue that they’re the downfall of civilization/culture/etc due to their entertainments. It’s a cycle repeated ad nauseum, and one I’m deeply dubious of.
