Random Talk Thread, Mk. III

Just reading an update on Hurricane Florence:

Inland, the warning is for extremely heavy rainfall and widespread flooding. Take care, people.

I hope it keeps going north.

If not, I’m doomed.

Me right now:

Yeah, my forumversary was yesterday too. I member when we held hands and skipped aboard.

How are you situated elevation-wise? It looks like flooding is going to be a big issue for a lot of places, especially since quite a few areas are already saturated from previous heavy rains.

Luckily, I live in a two story house in a neighborhood that rarely floods.

If I was in a mobile home, that would be an issue.

Mmm, now I’m just getting agitated.

Some of the big projections are showing the central bit moving up to my neck of the woods, but no real data appears available on it. Wunderground is like “Eh… It might rain thursday-saturday” and some people are putting up data that says we’ll get 6+ inches over the course of the storm

go ahead and just put in time off and game til the power goes out.

Nah, right now things aren’t looking bad. Wunderground says we might get near an inch saturday, and I tend to believe them over “HAI IM ON BOOKFACE THE WORLD IS ENDING”

it’s rather nice it isn’t heading towards me. Always a nice surprise. :yum:

I just got done watching Kim Possible with my cousin again.

We just finished Season 3. Now we’re going to watch Season 4.

Funny, there’s been an ongoing thing where several people have given their own interpretations of trying to make a batman like character. The usually come down between a monk/fighter and rogue multiclass of some variation.

The hand to hand stuff is pretty hard considering monk are the only martial combat class in the game.

We really need an STR variant…

Random call center banter story, engage.

I don’t know if it’s a normal joke for hotlines period or if people do it because we’re the state hotline and the state manages the lottery, but for some reason a certain subset of the population thinks it’s hilarious to do the following joke.

Me: So X is your ticket number for this issue, a tech should contact you. Is there anything else I can help you with?

Customer: Yeah, what’s tomorrows lottery numbers?

This line is usually punctuated with self-praising laughter and just general amusement with their own cleverness.

I’ve taken thousands of calls at this point, and probably heard this joke around 200 times.

To the point that now I immediately respond with.

Me: Actually that’s a fairly common request that we’ve gotten from users in the past. I’ve already spoken with management on the feasibility of providing these answers, and unfortunately the machines seen in most public drawings are analog. If you look closely, you can see there’s no networking or computer equipment present in the drawing videos. As such these machines are out of scope for our organization and you would need to contact the state lottery office for any further inquiry.

Around 30% of the users who get this treatment laugh their ass off and commend me for keeping a straight face. 20% kind of make the “err ok” noise. The rest get real grumpy real fast.

This could be applied to everything in the world. Your err…ok is too low though. at least 40%.

I’m trying to keep myself from panicking about the storm.

How close to the coast are you?

We live about 25 miles from the coast.
