I’m relaxing after my silent trauma earlier.

I figured, but I also thought that if people didn’t already know it couldn’t hurt to notify them of my oddness and predilection to media that resonates with it.

Reuters if you’re prioritizing non biased content. Otherwise, it depends on what you want. I tend to read a wide variety of sources, and just cross reference them, but for a single paper it gets tougher.

Then again, thinking about this I believe they’re headquartered in London anyways?

How did I know you’d have a better, more mature answer than I would?

Buzzfeed is actually not a terrible outlet, but not a good one either. Some of its authors have problematic histories, and there was that whole thing where their story on Cohen/Trump got refuted by Mueller. So I’m kind of back and forth on them. Wouldn’t trust them sight unseen though.

For a global perspective (which I’ve found pretty lacking in UK media at least) Al Jazeera is always good.

They have done some surprisingly good investigative journalism in recent years, coupled with some weird fuckups like you mentioned, so they go on a case by case basis with me right now. I think they’re still finding their feet as a ‘proper’ news outlet, if that means anything these days.

This is a rather good summary of how I feel about all media outlets. I was surprised at how evenly spread their gaffs and successes were when I started looking at their less frivolous content.

It varies more than you might think, but yes, cross referencing is generally a good idea.

As I’m sure you’ve seen me say before, i find it matters less where you read than how critically you think about it.

You’re not wrong, but generalization doesn’t help accuracy. And some outlets really are quite a lot worse than others. People may not like drawing out subtle or intermittent differences, but they can be big deals in the long run.

More directly, Fox has shown a correlation with being less informed than people who watch no news at all.

Sigh. All this information at our fingertips and so few willing to consume and disseminate it responsibly. We live in a golden age of information and idiocy.

To be fair, there’s more than one problem there. It’s hard to sort through it all honestly. I think one of the next big breakthroughs will be in how we deal with data, rather than simply acquiring more of it.

Funny thing that most people today carry a nearly magical device that grants them access to a huge number of information sources. And we even use those devices! As it seems mostly for porn and cat pics, but oh well.

Try to read the good ones and cross-reference anyways looks like a viable MO to me.

Absolutely. As a group I think we’re still adjusting to the availability of information. It’s sort of how I feel when I see a big menu. There’s so much there, how do I know what’s good?

I get my news feed from my Ghostery browser on my phone. I was dubious at first but I’ve come to find it extremely good at picking news from around the world and from a huge variety of sources.

Al J, Beeb, Ceeb, Reuter’s, ABC and related, Time, NYT, W-Post, Independent, etc, etc.

Do you want to know what my nightmare was about?

It was about a young woman who had a weird personality like licking plastic ice cream cones and things like that, after she and her teammate when to sleep, She got a really bad flesh-eating parasite and she was in horrible shape. She was screaming and puking blood. It was awful.
