Ah, the old traditions are the best traditions!

Well, for those who are interested - we finally have some information on the new nVidia desktop cards, and frankly? They’re insane. nVidia did end up jumping straight to Ampere not just for workstations, but these too, and the performance? They’re claiming double, in one generation. And it looks like they might even be right.

Do you think Pikachu has a litter box, and if so, are his dookies electrically charged?

Available now:

FARADAY’S LITTER BOX.

Well… it’s time for canning. If you couldn’t detect it, that’s lack of enthusiasm. I’m too fond of canned green beans not to do it though.

Power is out out due to high winds for three (at least) days, and the entire forest is now closed (not just recreational areas, like do not go into the woods, period). I think my battery will last this entire time (keep the 'fridge and fish tank running, plus charge our stuff and maybe go online). My Internet is out, and I’m tethering my phone to type this.

I have solar panels, but I think they get fully deactivated when power is out (so they don’t backfeed into the grid and zap line workers). If so, I need to figure out how to get them to just refill my battery and run my house and not hit the grid, like if I throw the main breaker connecting my house to the grid, that should tell the system that the panels can come back on in that mode.

Just saw the headline on the Ceeb. Looks like for some regions the power cut was intentional.

Pretty terrifying stuff. I heard one fire in Cal started from fireworks at a gender reveal party :rage:

We had some pretty crazy winds yesterday which started a few minor fires in the region but what it primarily did was bring a ton of smoke from the interior of BC and Washington, particularly the Spokane area.

We got the hellish red sunrise this morning and while the air isn’t as bad as 2017, it’s still pretty bad

Thankfully I’ve avoided this stuff, though there is supposedly a bad one up near Portland right now. Less fortunately, it’s supposed to be physically dangerous level hot today. We’ll see how bad it is, but generally they understate it, so not terribly hopeful on that.

Edit: Well, that’ll teach me not to look outside before posting something like this. Looks like the weather today includes smoke, albeit I have no idea from where given the nearest fire is just over sixty miles off.

I think power lawnmowers are designed to be loud so that our consciences aren’t bothered by the bloodcurdling screams of the myriad blades of grass we cut down in their prime.

That’s why I use a reel mower.

A real assassin uses a blade.
A real butcher uses a hammer.
We must approach our murder and mutilation with first hand honesty.

I don’t know if you lot cursed me or what, but there’s now a fire about twenty miles from here, and air quality warnings have gone from nothing to don’t go outside. Plus side, it kept the temperature down to ‘merely’ 95 Fahrenheit, and the fire itself is still (relatively) small being in the tens of acres range. Hopefully they’ll get it under control given they got to it early.

Be safe Temet. I hope it doesn’t get any closer or any worse.

Nah, no need to worry. It’s headed inland, they aren’t even evacuating the city that’s right next to it. Just really did a number on the air quality, that and made me a tad paranoid. The air is ridiculous though, to put it in perspective we’re getting layers of ash on cars.

Question: is it possible for someone to be so incendiary that them rubbing two things together would cause them to spontaneously combust?
