Rate of completed lores challenges overall

I’ve read you didn’t want to make it available through Private Versus, does that point still stand today? Or the implication to change that is a little complicated that you’d rather focus on new DLC and modes before touching this point?

Well, I, personally, am OK with grind. It’s the absence of any alternative for PVP challenges that bothers me. Timezone + almost zero player base in my region makes that part of the game basically inaccessible for me. Not to mention I don’t really like PVP as a whole.

P.S. People above mention Alani’s ā€œThe Lifeguards have Given Upā€. It registers rarely and randomly.

I really hope it’s something worth reconsidering. I do love the extra bit of story we get from lore but I know I won’t complete many characters’ lore because of the PvP requirements – I just don’t enjoy it, it’s not for me.

I mentioned this somewhere else, recently, but this is something I’d like to improve. Many of the challenges I would be fine with in Private. But there are a few that are legitimately earned in competitive that I would hate to devalue to the players who have earned them by making them ā€œcheese-ableā€ in private. (For example, ā€œWorthy of Songā€ or ā€œPentastrikeā€).

I’m exploring a way currently to tag a certain set of challenges that woule be exclusively earnable in matchmade PvP. If I can do that, then I’ll enable the rest for completion in private match.

For those who want to just read/know the lore but don’t want to grind for it, just read it up here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1J8SHTj4aZU6OheiqQmIsVZDdjHSO2YoWnmdiviK2vpc/edit#heading=h.jklcep21r8p4

And if you (a random guy) are still negative about the lore challenges (because story matters), I think it’s time to put down those forks and just read the stuff on the internet ^^ (or the link I posted).

As for the challenges, they are all doable.

The worst ones were/are: Benedict and Boldur ones (because if you play without any friends it’s really hard to ā€œhey can you please play the Eldrid characters, would help me with Boldur’s lore, thank you! <3ā€ … and then someone instantly picks Marquis and you start to feel the emptiness in you heart ^^

And Kleese, now that Chaos Rumble is over, it’s once again impossible to get a match on capture ^^. At least you could change his lore to: play on 14 different maps (and list the ones you still didn’t play) at least once - in order to reduce the confusion for newer players that don’t even know that 3 new maps were added since launch and they doesn’t count towards that lore challenge.

That would be wonderful and much appreciated! Thanks for engaging with us here about this!

Holy hell that would be perfect. It doesn’t matter if this update comes in Winter, just that it happens one day.

We still think the priority are the new contents story ops, characters and pvp modes.

This is the ideal solution, in my opinion. I’d be fine with not being able to get the more prestigious titles in Private Versus. All I want is to finish my lore challenges. I know I’m probably never going to get Worthy of Song or Pentastrike, but I sure would like to finish out the lore at least.

I’d be pleased with this. Basically, the only Lores I really have left are the ā€œstyle kills;ā€ airborne volley kills with Thorn, airborne kills with Benedict, double-kill with Toby’s Ult (and a bunch of El Dragon stuff, but I hardly ever play him.) And, of course, the buggy ā€œThe Lifeguards Have Given Up.ā€

I understand the reason for ā€œstyle killā€ challenges, in order to try to teach the player some of the character’s moves, but Thorn’s in particular is one I’m not fond of. When I’m in the midst of a matchmade PvP game, I don’t want to feel compelled to try such a specific method for scoring the kill, and risking that the opposing player gets away.

If these could be recorded in PvE, it’s a great solution. Players get to try out the moves the Lore wants them to use, and they’re not risking letting down matchmade teammates by missing a kill they could have otherwise gotten.

There is a slight excitement once the final lore challenge finally pops and the trophy/achievment notification comes up. I finally did it! Killed that loser Oscar Mike for the 5th time. Whiskey foxtrot lore challenge is now mine.

But then there are others that I grind so many times when I finally get it there is only relief that it’s over and I never have to specifically do that certain task ever again.

I think, actually, that most (not all) lore challenges DO revolve around showing you how to play the character, but I’m behind ya on the ā€œsometimes stupidly repetitiveā€ mark. For instance, shanking 500 creeps with Whiskey’s knife quick melee was ridiculous, but I didn’t even have quick melee bound to a button when I started playing him (I have some physical restrictions), so without the lore I would have never known that his is among the best and completely apt when a creep has 20 health left and you just fired your last shot of the clip. You could go take a bio break, grab a snack, check the mail, take out the dog, and then check Facebook while waiting for Whiskey to reload, or you could shank dat creep. Again, though - 500 was stupid.

Some other instances I can think of - Orendi learning to push people back into a pillar, Thorn’s ā€œlearn to be an annoying jumping idiot by air-killing 10 peopleā€, Reyna’s ā€œput that pistol away and drain a shield for onceā€, Oscar Mike’s ā€œlearn to completely break Incursion’s mechanicsā€, El Dragon’s ā€œlearn to never use, ever use Clothesline againā€, and so on

It’s not half, but I agree that many of the ā€œkill Xā€ or ā€œgroup with Xā€ are annoying and almost never make any sense (maybe Miko + Kelvin makes sense… maybe). But to be honest - healing every Battleborn as Miko would take far, far longer than most other ā€œgroup with xā€ or ā€œkill xā€ lore, so I’m not sure I’ll be seconding that :stuck_out_tongue:

I have 240 hours played, and I have all lore but Pendles’ ā€œUse smoke Bomb 100 times while in CCā€ (I’m just crap with him and haven’t really tried). But I played the good majority of my many PvE maps with a mind towards completing lore as frequently as possible.

…This!

I’m not the only BB fan with over 1,000 hours into PvE.

I’ve mastered more than half of the characters but the ones that remain, while maxed, require PvP.

These remain for me:
Alani (Ambra), Benedict (Kill 10), Galilea (Ambra), Ghalt (Pull 25), Kleese (Each map), Pendles (Kill 20)
Thorn (Volley kills), Toby (Rails)

*As for Kleese and playing on each map, the game doesn’t show us specific progress, just Story mode.

I do agree with you on everything but the line about the killing lore. Only four out of 27 have that. Not almost half

Fouuuurrrrtr

I’ve farmed them mostly for medals and some loot, but mainly just trying the experience with different battleborn. The heroes all play quite differently and there is a certain satisfaction of having success with a little used character and then playing more with them on other maps. It’s nice to see some of the specific dialogue changes with certain characters on maps and a bit of banter (kind of like a bioware touch). Also some of their lines are great and I don’t notice as much unless I’m playing that character. Benedict has some classic ones

Thank you for all of the elaboration and effort put into these responses

I never understood why GBX restricted the lore in the fashion they decided.

Some are PvP only, which is already bad enough. Then there were ones that were PvE only, so not even the most diligent of PvPers could fully achieve their lore if they are that adverse to PvE -and there are those out there who display utter contempt for PvE and those who enjoy it, as if we are a plague that’s holding back the game.

How nice would it be if these PvEers just leave and wither away where they can rot so our competitive scene wouldn’t be tainted by their… breathing the same air…

Jokes aside, I’m spending time in Battleborn, that should be what Gearbox wants most from their players, to devote our free time in their game instead of a competitors, and yet the decisions they implemented hamper and deny my progress and fun. Players from both sides should be able to play the way they desire to achieve what they want, isn’t this why GBX spent so much time and effort in both PvP and PvE? Or have I been mistaken?

The ones that I’m missing that I want to have are Alani, Ernest, Galilea, Benedict, Kleese, Thorn, Shayne+Aurox, Whiskey Foxtrot, Pendles (I actually don’t care about him, but I got some of his stuff done by accident,) El Dragon and maybe another one here and there that I lost track of.

At any rate, just needed to get it off my chest. And I thank those in GBX who are working to find a work-around on this.

I don’t play a lot of PvP but tried chaos rumble last week and was mostly picking characters based on completing their lore challenges. Some of these I’m not good enough to get and others are achievable with a lot of grinding. I did get all of whiskey foxtrot complete which was satisfying but I don’t think I’d use him again in PvP (love him in pve though).

This this this. I loved the harder lore challenges, though I am happy they changed the toby double kill, and kill this player ones because frankly I could never find those darn characters being played. Anything too simple kind of bored me, and each lore I finished after a long struggle, and seeing the achievement pop up for the completion, overjoyed me to no end, and fueled me into mastering every single character(minus Ernest at this moment, close though!) because I saw the unique beauty in each one with mastering their lore, learning about their characters, and just the hours put into each one.

I most certainly am on that list of people who want a soundtrack for the game to be made available at some point in the future. I’m also hoping that song that everyone knows from the CTT will make it into the soundtrack. If you’re not sure which one ask MentalMars.

cough cough Alani cough Lifeguards cough

At any rate I’m glad you took the time to put all of this lore into the game. Not many games add so much depth to their lore.
