Rath needs nerf

I’d recommend playing Rath if you are having trouble fighting him.

Once you figure out what situations a Rath looks for you can do 2 things:

  1. Not give him the situations he is looking for.
  2. Know when he’s going to strike and counter his move with a well timed CC.

Rath will punish you if you disrespect his ability to zero you out… so maybe you just need to learn some discipline and not position yourself so aggressively…

Compared to other melee characters Rath’s basic melee is actually fairly weak. It’s deadwind that deals incredible damage in a brief window. If you can even partially counter the effectiveness of deadwind you can really keep Rath in check.

Also, if you hate Rath consider which champions you are playing. Rath loves Thorn and Oscar Mike because they squish easily and have no hard CC or escape. If you start playing characters like Benedict and Toby, you can escape his Deadwind with air mobility.

There are a lot of characters that can keep Rath in check. They just aren’t the backdoor cheese champions that you play. Maybe change your play style a bit and adapt.

Again, not calling for a nerf, but…

  1. The situation is being outside of spawn.
  2. Have no CC to counter with.

You have a mini-map that reports to you the positions of enemy heroes… use it… Rath has no way to hide from it.
You have terrain that makes it much more difficult for melee champions to get to you… use it…
You have area of denial abilities that will do incredible amounts of dps to enemies that attack you while standing in them… use it…
You have team mates that have CC or larger health pools that can intercept or interrupt Rath… use it…
You have sentries that will melt an enemy hero in a matter of seconds if someone chases you into it… use it…
You have the ability to sprint and run at a drastically increased pace… use it…

Maybe Rath isn’t the problem as much as you not using everything in your disposal.

Also saying “I have no CC at my disposal” suggests to me that you only play one character as a main. The game has some degree of “rock paper scissors” balance. Certain characters have favorable matchups against others in 1 v 1 settings. Maybe you ought to experience some other characters… maybe ones with CC.

Give Montana or Benedict a try once and you’ll find that Raths bother you a lot less.

Rath eats noobs… the majority of players are noobs. So yes Rath probably is OP in a casual environment. But if you personally don’t want to fall victim to Rath… stop being a noob.

Rath doesn’t need a nerf I play as Rath and get slaughtered a majority of the time,If anything he should have his general attack buffed.

Lol Dave…

Sounds like you are playing Rath wrong to me.

I will add my name to those who quit playing multiplayer because rath needs a hard nerf. The game isn’t fun when a noob can rub up against you like a horny dog and kill you. And with out taking a very specialized tree to counter RATH spacificly you have no choice but to run away. Balance the game level the playing field

Yeah I don’t want to play every game opimizing my character to just thwart Rath. That is the definition of Over Powered.

Technically you should optimize your characters to do well against whatever characters or situation you’re facing. There are many straight laced strategies that work as counters for multiple characters.

Having to adjust your playstyle or usual helix options to be a better counter for one or two or all characters you face in a single match doesn’t make them OP. That’s how the game is supposed to be played. That’s why you have multiple helix choices.

That doesn’t really make sense, you can’t see opponent choices and to properly tailor a choice you’d need to be able to pick a viable hero looking at the whole enemy team. Some heroes are just ■■■■ against him when you consider his mobility.

I had more frustrations against Rath tonight, where I had another Rath consistently kill me 1v1 even when we were the same level and he would start on half health. His damage output was magnitudes higher than mine like most of the better Raths I have played to the point where I actually wondered if he was cheating. Often the death analysis data didn’t even show him doing more than a few hundred damage with no other sources… That and he wasn’t showing up on the mini map.
Was pretty annoying but made me wonder if some of the Raths I’ve faced are cheating.

Rath was the 1st Character I got to level 15 and still consider him part of my main 5 (Rath, Montana, Bene, Ghalt & Reyna). I won’t lie to you as Rath if I see: Miko, Reyna, Phoebe, El Dragon, Orendi, OM, WF, Marquice and Deande…I’m gonna spin to win with ease if I catch you off guard or I feel I can run up on you. Almost ever other character, unless they are hurt should be able to get away. People say they can’t deal with Rath might either A. Pick a character with bad match up I.E OM , WF, Miko etc. or B. Get caught of guard alot. As Montana, Bene and Ghalt I LOVE seeing Rath on the other team. He is such a easy kill to me because he has no escape. I don’t know who you play but Rath can be punished like no tomorrow with the right kit.

I REALLY hate to say this but in this instance, is really is a L2P issue.

I have literally no problems with Rath. He is very squishy and only has 1 proper CC and a Helix option slow. When his stun is off CD is he literally no problem at all. His Ult can be interrupted with a stun and can be knock-backed with quick melee.

When I play Rath I have no problem killing other Rath’s either! They all seem to use the same rotation/attack pattern and it’s really easy to counter.

That and he wasn’t showing up on the mini map[/quote]

Enemy players only appear in the mini map if they have been spotted. If someone flanks you and gets the drop on you you wont see them on the mini map until you literally see them.

Surely if all the other Raths you come against do a lot more damage than you do with Rath, rather than all of them cheating is it not possible that there is something to playing the char you have missed? That would explain you outputting less damage than all the other Raths you encounter much more reasonably than the idea that they were all cheating. (Not trying to attack anyone, just to take a logical approach to the points you have made>)

That’s why I said you have different helix choices. I didn’t say choose a character based off your opponent’s characters . I said in every match you should be optimizing whatever character you chose to be a good counter against the opposing players, as well as the map you’re on.

That’s how you play the game.

I was responding to @pedersen94 when I posted that.

I’m almost shocked this thread is still going. But I’m just going to throw out there that there are several people with my opinion who say he’s fine. And several people who say he’s broken… Which, to me, is an indicator that he’s balanced  otherwise only Rath mains would argue. I personally find him useless in a map like overgrowth, as opposed to… Most melee characters.

Problem is that the people saying he’s fine often say that you need multiple players to counter him.

I don’t. But I know that I’m an above average gamer usually. My girlfriend has a hard time countering him, and we play split screen, so I get to see her side. :stuck_out_tongue: I understand even though I don’t understand. I can kill him with anyone from Oscar Mike to Caldarius to Ambra. Okay, Ambra might be a stretch, after all her nerfs…

Actually, I find Ambra to be one of the better Wrath killers since she can drain life while silenced.

True, but she’s a higher skill cap now. His damage outdoes her life steal, and she’s much slower than he is. The push back mutations her though… Mm! Turn her into anti Rath. Those actually slipped my mind.

Forget what it’s called, but her mutation where she smacks the ground with her staff. It’s an AOE knock back and can push Wrath away from her or any other friendly player.

Even the non mutation one is pretty beastly. But yeah I love that one. The double tap on low health enemies, being able to shove them into walls, build heat, then stab them repeatedly… It’s beautiful.

Nope, Ambra can do it.
If a Sunspot is already out and Rath doesn’t attack it, she can out damage in early levels with leading Searing Wind and then spamming Secondary Attack while Sunspot damages and heals for a bit.
