So formations don’t exactly work right. This is because of engine limitations.
The thing is, it wasn’t really the formations that gave us the emergent strategies the older games had. It was the things you could do with the formations that gave us the deeper tactics that were possible in the old engine.
So, with this in mind… I’m not opposed to just scrapping formations altogether, and going with a new system.
Stats can be altered, like evasion, hit chance, volume of fire, speed, acceleration, etc.
If it is possible to change flight behaviour, I’d be interested in a “strafe” tactic that emulated some of the Guard tricks. But even just a stat change would already be a big shift in the strategy of the game.
