Request: non-waifish females and aliens

I was going to give you a like, AMG, but then I remembered Ellie in that chain-mail bikini.

The Princess Leia outfit made her feel pretty hot though (even if she could really use a sweater).

This gave me an image of Ellie in heavy armor from Tina’s DLC.

…huh, yeah, it would be, wouldn’t it?

That would make the opera part important so they ain’t just exactly the same.

That’s also a balance thing too though. If they give her a very large figure and then add a bunch of armor on top she’s going to end up being huge, which makes her a much bigger target. I’m also pretty sure that that’s part of why the other female characters are so small. Thorn for sure is thin as she is because they want to make her small and evasive so that she’s harder to hit.

Oh man, I’d love there to be an “Ellie” playable character. Some absolute behemoth of a woman with a southern accent, very scantily clad (and quite possibly mocking the pose Blizzard just got “in trouble” for as a taunt, or some twerking).

She’d be a melee/tanky character obviously, but similar in size/style to Montana (a big, slow bullet sponge). Maybe give her a huge warhammer as a weapon.

I can get behind this, well anything really that involves getting more non-human characters in this game really.
If they do make a non-waifish female, please don’t be a robot xP
Btw I find Zarya from Overwatch waifish, sooo take that as you want ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I think it was for aesthetic reasons and not because of the reasons you posted, Bizz. Look at Montana: he’s a mountain of a man, which makes him a very big target, but he has a small crit area and he can soak up a huge amount of damage. GBX could easily create a female version of him without any issues. Thorn is so skinny because Elves are generally portrayed as such in video games. Warhammer: Vermintide pokes fun at this with one of the Dwarf’s callouts being “Not bad fer a skinny Elf!” when the Elf goes on a killing spree. GBX gave us Ellie, so they’ve shown they’re not adverse to having voluptuous females.

I suggested Orendi doing that pose, but I think your idea is 100x better. If I could, I’d give you another like. :dukecheese:

I’d play as her.

I forget her name… that one support lady in the Rogues faction … she’s pretty burly all over, and rockin’ a set of serious thunder-thighs. haha…

Even the thin girls on the roster are interesting in this game because it definitely looks like they went for character stylization over cheap sex-appeal. (As expected from Gearbox, they’ve always shown a lot of respect for women of all shapes and sizes in their games)

Thorn, for example, is like… alien-gangly-thin, and has those proportionately large arms. And Shayne is… downright gender-ambiguous, if they didn’t provide her pronouns I wouldn’t have known she’s supposed to be a girl. I haven’t unlocked Orendi’s lore files yet but I’m preeeeetty sure she’s not human. At least not any more.

That being said, I’m totally down to see some bigger gals on the badass roster in the future. Could be Ellie-big, could just be chubby, could be buff, any of that would work. ^^

Reyna? Yeah, she’s not exactly tiny by any comparison.

Buff please~ ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I appreciate all the responses. Obviously a character with a bigger profile should have more damage mitigation like a larger shield capacity, and there’s already been requests for another tanky female. Here’s one idea I had that floated to the top: a bellyful woman from a race of rhino/hippo/elephant-like mammals that wears a space or flight suit and wields a pair of retro-style laser pistols or rayguns. Or a large plasma cannon that fires a large but very slow ball that damages anything it passes through. And if she has a small voice like Marion Ramsey from Police Academy, even better.

Love the rhino/hippo/elephant idea, but the whole “large person with high pitch voice” has been done many times before and also erks me.
If the character is going to be as large as a rhino/hippo/elephant, then I would rather her have a large plasma cannon as oppose to laser pistols or rayguns. (Big characters using tiny weapons also erks me.)
I dunno about the slow projectile that passes through multiple enemies (for one, someone has that in Overwatch.), the other tanks in the game have pretty fast projectiles (if they have projectiles).
Flight suit…ehhh, not creative enough (IMO).
Side-note: Don’t forget to make her buff ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Yeah, it’s great. Ain’t a lot of AAA games with women looking like that without it being a super-serious photorealistic sort of style.

I actually really like the female character design in this game compared to something like Overwatch where they seem to only be able to make female characters who are either massive and butch or femme fatal with skimpy/skin tight outfits which while fine is just so overdone and boring and there’s not enough ‘normal’ in between kind of characters, the kinds that I prefer to play.

I think this game has done an awesome job at making more unique, varied, and more likeable female characters that don’t follow the usual boring stereotypes. It’s the very first thing I thought when I saw the selection of characters. They’re much more relatable and cool some are a lil bit boyish but in a good way and some are a little bit girlish but in a good way. I’d call it that sweet spot that feels just right and I enjoy playing these kind of characters compared to the usual stereotypes. It’s like a breath of fresh air being able to immerse myself and see the characters as an extension of myself.

If anything I’d say that it’s actually the male characters who follow the usual big muscular/huge guy stereotypes too much. They feel a lot less original and inspiring, pretty dull for the most part. The only ones I really like is Marquis who looks awesome and Benedict. Obviously this is just my opinion.

Hey now, don’t be poking at Zarya. She’s the hottest in the Overwatch!

Agreed, the character in this game are quite diverse…except for Thorn being a skinny elf archer. That’s the trifecta of every and all elf stereotypes.

But Montana is also funny while being muscular  I don’t count El Dragon as strong because, you know, his arms are gone and looks like he skips leg day.
Attikus could be female (?). We don’t know about alien genders!
Boldur is a dwarf, just like elf sterotypes, dwarfs are meant to be muscular.
(Teasing~ for the most part.)
I totally agree that out of the male cast of characters, Benedict is the most unique. Marquis is cool and all, but if we wanna talk about awesome robots, ISIC has my vote :stuck_out_tongue:

“CALL ME SPACEELF ONE MORETIME” ~Thorn

You leave my Thron alone you.

Thorn’s pretty atypical for the type of character she portrays, her voice over and behavior, attitudes are pretty off beat compared to the delicate elf trope.
Thorn reminds me of this

And it’s great.

This idea is too hilarious and thus must never be implemented. Too much controversy

When has that ever stopped Gearbox? That’s one thing that makes them awesome

So what you’re saying is that any marketing team would tell them to get the hell on it immediately then.

Let the Artists that create the characters decide how and why a character should look a certain way.

I understand that one can make an argument for why a game should have a varied amount of character styles, shapes, and sizes. It should appeal to the masses. It should have something for everyone. Lets not piss off every single person in the history of ever. Look, the more varied and appealing the game is to the masses, the more copies of the game you can “potential” sell. But at some point you have to ship the game. It has to be complete at some point, and if your polling the world on what is offensive or socially acceptable, it will never get made.

If you place restrictions or excessive rules on what the creative teams can do, you will end up with a game that will look and feel like every other game out there. Let the creative team be creative.

As far as “Large” characters? From what I have seen in game (& my own personal experience), running around with guns and equipment, killing people and building things on a battlefield requires you to be fit, and in shape. An over weight individual on a battlefield is a larger target, and at a disadvantage due to having to carry more body weight plus their gear.

I think this really comes down to people that either want their character to look like them, or people that think their children will feel shame if there isn’t a character in game that doesn’t look like them. But what if the character you wanted to look like isn’t even the class you want to play as?

Since you can’t customize the shape of each character you have in the game; adding additional characters just to please individuals that want a certain size/shape as a certain class in game would be an infinite spiral of what if. What if we have an obese Mage, then you need an obese Sniper. Then you need an obese sniper that isn’t a redhead. Then the character is too tall, make it shorter. See it never ends.

Me personally, I’m going to let the creative team make creative characters that they think will fit in the universe that they have created. Its either that or cry about how they don’t have a mid 30’s, balding, half Mexican/Amish, short, slightly over-weight male; that has medical skills and is good with a camera & a wrench.
