There’s some issues with resource collectors in HW1 Remastered:

  • They’re incorrectly labelled with the Vaygr symbol. This seems to be random, as even other ships in the fleet have the Vaygr badge, so I guess it’s a bug with badge assignments.

  • Since RC’s in HW1 RM attach themselves to asteroids, glitches like this occur as they harvest the resources:

  • When resource collectors dock with a controller, they go into a form of parade with the controller that places them quite some distance away. That isn’t behaviour seen in classic, where they will always go into parade with the mothership. See pic:

  • It would be good to know if a patch is being worked on to restore classic RC behaviour, where they circle the resource in question until filled, and whether the cost of an RC will be increased to 650 and they’ll be able to harvest the same amount from resources.

They already said that the circling is impossible and won’t make a comeback, sorry to disappoint you there :frowning: can’t say much about the rest tho.

They said that about repair beams for Support Frigs/Repair corvs, saying that it crashed the game, but they implemented it. So don’t assume that the position will stay the same: if they can find a solution, they’ll implement it

Really ? I somehow must have missed that, I always thought the Support Frigs were bugged/imbalanced and needed tweaking but apparently I was mistaken :stuck_out_tongue: mea culpa.

But to be honest, correctly working Support Frigs/Repair corvs are fairly important for gameplay and needed to be fixed, circling resource collectors on the other hand are purely cosmetic in nature and I’ll wager that it is very low on their priority list if its on it at all. The mentioned bugs on the other hand need to be adressed of course, but that can be done without implementing the circling animation I’m sure.

The bug with the collector clipping into other resources would probs be fixed by a circling animation, since with a circling animation, the collector will move around the other objects to avoid hitting them. Whereas, current behaviour will be that they’ll just “latch onto” a resource, the resource will spin round and the collector will just clip through everything while it harvests.

True, but wasn’t the collector moving in a straight line around the asteroid ? I haven’t played Hw1 classic so I really don’t know, but if that is the case then it can still collide with the randomly moving asteroids, right ?

If it’s circling an asteroid, it will move around the objects like they’re derelict objects. But if it’s not harvesting and drifts into one, the asteroid will be pushed and possibly go out of the map range. It’s not just a straight line though, it can be any direction.

If you want an idea of how the circling animation worked, play the first couple of missions in HW1 Classic (even if just the first one, then only harvesting resources in the second mission). Should give you an idea as to how it worked before

I will take your word for it  not in the mood for “oldschool” graphics right now :stuck_out_tongue:

What? Did they? I can’t play the game right now so I can’t test it out yet. Is it functioning like it did in Homeworld Classic?

Yes, they said that they couldn’t get the older format working because it was crashing the engine (it might’ve been the resourcer circling animation, not sure): therefore, support frigs and all that would “latch on” like HW2 resourcers behave.

Now, after a few patches, support frigs and repair corvs now use a distance repair beam like HW1 Classic does (although it is not perfect and people report problems with trying to make multiple frigs/corvs get repaired by the beam)

Right, but do they still have to latch onto specific areas of the target ship? Personally, I thought that was the worst aspect of the remastered repair mechanics

No, they don’t. When I said they have a distance repair beam, they have a distance repair beam and will just follow the ship around at distance and use a beam, like it does in classic HW1. But it’s getting a bit off-topic here, as this discussion is about bugs with resource collectors

Oh wow, that’s good news. Yeah, I’ll stop talking now
