I think I was in there once. I need to get over to there pronto and show my socially-awkward self! Also, I’m sorry Toby finds it offensive, but tell him it was fun channeling him.

I’m thinking of keeping this thing going, so here are a few ideas I’ve had in mind. I’m looking to increase the amount of questions and interactivity for you guys. As always, vote what one you like. I’m also giving you an opportunity to create your own story.

Have fun and remember, these ideas aren’t quite final.

  • BATTLEBORN & THE RETURN OF RENDAIN (Pulp Adventure): In the style of “Tales of the Borderlands”, the Battleborn hear rumblings of Rendain’s return, post-Heliophage. How exactly this has happened is unknown (yet), but what is known is that he’s searching for an ancient Aztanti device that they used to peer into the other dimension. Follow the Battleborn as they go on an adventure through the Detrius Ring, the Arcfleet and the ancient ruins of Ekkunar to find this ancient device and stop Rendain once and for all.
  • KID ULTRA & THE WRATH OF DEUS COGITO (Superhero): Oh no! Kid Ultra’s super duper and deeply charismatic nemesis, Deus Cogito, is at it again! He’s kidnapped Phoebe and is forcing her to make duplicates of himself, and it’s up to Kid Ultra to assemble a team to find and destroy him! In a totally PG-13 way of course.
  • EL DRAGON’S LAST TITLE FIGHT (Think Battleborn meets Snake Eyes): It’s been a while since El Dragon stepped into the ring, but when an opportunity presents itself to return, El Dragon cannot let it pass. El Dragon and ISIC go to the tournament to win the Title Fight, and as El Dragon beats his opponents to a pulp, ISIC can’t help but smell something fowl and it appears there are those who wish El Dragon doesn’t get back up from the fight.
  • THE MONSTER THAT BEATRIX MADE (Spooky horror, in style of Demon Bear): A small village in Tempest has been frequently hit by a monster, a monster that kills its victims and steals their LIMBS. Luckily, Beatrix knows who it is - a Frankenstein-like monster she created before joining the Battleborn. It’s sentient, and killing innocent people and it’s up to her and some of the Battleborn to track it down and end its killing spree.
  • ALANI AND THE TRUTH OF AKOPOS (Action-y fan-fiction): Alani gets wind that an old mentor she used to know escaped Apokos during The Great Boiling, and is alive and well, and when she reaches out to him, it appears not is all that it seems, and a darkness about Akopos is revealed; that some of her order knew of the Sun Priestess’ arrival and betrayed her people so that they could live. Alani must track down the whereabouts of this mentor and confront him, but the betray runs deeper than she would have ever imagined. As Alani travels to the darkest places not even her own Syl can illuminate, it’s up to the Battleborn to stop her from doing anything rash and before her unbridled rage changes her forever.
  • CREATE YOUR OWN STORY: You can decide to submit your own idea. I’ve used the Operations and their riffs on genre to create the above, but you can do whatever you want. If this choice ultimately wins, or comes second place, a second poll will be created where I’ll include the submitted ideas. Must be more than three ideas submitted for this poll to work, however.

Season Two: ”Beatrix and the Beast of Tempest"

A beast is terrorising a small Tempest village, a beast that kills its victims and steals limbs as a trophy! Beatrix has an idea what it might be, and goes off with a few Battleborn to track it down and kill it once and for all! Or, at least use it to experiment on. Either way…

————————————————————————————————————

Part One: The Beast that Beatrix Made.
Random house. Tempest.

She came through the door and slams it shut. She’s breathless, exhausted, and very on edge. She bolts the door and backs away slowly from it when - boom, boom, BOOM - three loud thumps hammer against, each one making her jump. She goes into a room and brings out a holo-pad while the door breaks with each thunderous hit. She writes a frantic e-mail and presses send… but the holo-pad glitches, and refuses to send it. She tries again, and again, and… each time, somehow refusing to send the important message.

And each time the door splinters and breaks away, until the moment the message finally sends, the door breaks down, revealing a large creature drenched in dark, inky shadow. It heaves, nostrils flaring; its horns large, one chipped away. It steps forward, and while the woman screams…

Beatrix’s lab. Nova.
Beatrix inspects cells under a microscope when her holo-pad buzzes. She half-expected another team-spirit, woo-hoo-for-us e-mail from Alani, which reminded her, she needed to take a secret sample of the girl for further analysis. Something about this makes her chuckle amusingly.

When she takes a look at the e-mail, however, she wasn’t expecting what she saw, a name she hadn’t seen in, well, quite a long time. In fact, she had completely forgotten about the name Varia Aurando, which went to show just how special she was to the Plaguebringer.

She scans the e-mail, which spoke of murders and such, but it wasn’t until she got to the part that whoever was doing this was coming to kill her that she got interested. It was “hammering at the door”, and that Beatrix “should come and help”. Listen, murders aren’t… well, Beatrix has murdered a few thousand people in her lifetime — passively, of course. Inadvertently. Unintentionally. It wasn’t her fault that the patients couldn’t handle the important scientific research she was doing on them. In the name of science, she saw their deaths — of which there were many, of course — as a sacrifice.

But when she read further, it turned out a few clues stood out. That this was not just any beast, but it was sentient, and a Thrall for that matter. A sentient Thrall isn’t anything special; there was one right here on the ship she had a hand in creating. She did, after all, create the Thrall, but she never set out to create a smart one, which this one clearly was. It was stealing limbs as a trophy. Nay, it wasn’t the fact this was a sentient Thrall that got her attention, it was the fact she may have, for the first time, a real-life Thrall serial killer!

She needed more information, which meant she had to go to the place the murders were taking place, a small village on Tempest called “Wrath”. Her artificial heart fluttered with anticipation and she made her way to Ghalt’s quarters for permission to leave.

Ghalt’s quarters. Nova.
The very sight of Beatrix creeped him out, but her telling him the story of these murders on Tempest seemed, well, rather outside her wheelhouse if he were being honest. Before she could even take one step onto the village, she needed permission from Ghalt, and as soon as she did, she would be close to spending countless hours over freshly decomposed bodies like that of Varia. The very thought made her feel giddy.

“The specimen is clearly advanced”
“I just don’t like the idea of you going out there by yourself”
“By myself?” Beatrix giggles, “captain, I am more than capable of keeping myself safe”
“How long would it take?”

How long would it take? thought Beatrix. “Give me a day. Tops.”
Ghalt was not convinced, which made her sigh, the very conversation making her bored. She hands him a list of Battleborn.
“Since I know you won’t let me go down there without some kind of backup, I made a list of four people I want to come with. They’ll be bored and most likely get in my way, but hey”

In reality she perfected a potion that would put them to sleep almost immediately if they annoyed her. Gosh, she despised company sometimes, but she really needed to get down there before the body of Varia Aurando decomposed after 48 hours, in which case it may be too late to get a proper sample of the woman for reasons that are totally and completely irrelevant. Also to steal her research, as that was why they parted ways. Patents they had worked on, and patents the thievish fiend had stolen from Beatrix.

OUT OF ALL 30 (excluding Beatrix) BATTLEBORN, WHICH FOUR SHOULD ACCOMPANY BEATRIX ON THE MISSION?
The four will accompany Beatrix on the mission and their very presence will shape the way the story. Think carefully, as you only have FOUR (4) choices.

  • Alani
  • Kelvin
  • Mellka
  • Thorn
  • Ambra
  • Attikus
  • Deande
  • Rath
  • El Dragon
  • ISIC
  • Kid Ultra
  • Ernest
  • Galilea
  • Ghalt
  • Montana
  • Oscar Mike
  • Orendi
  • Pendles
  • Whiskey Foxtrot
  • Nova (in her robot suit)

(the poll wouldn’t me do all 30, so I had to take liberty and get rid of some.)

Also, I suggest you change the setting from “tracking” to “watching” if you’re interested in this. It’ll make things easier so you can follow along as it happens and be notified when a new post appears.

Glad you went for another season! I really enjoy reading these.
What a dilemma with this new story though, was torn between a wacky twist (Orendi, Oscar Mike, Kid Ultra) or a more “appropriate” team, Pendles (murder specialist), Deande (Ex-Spymistress must know a lot about Tempest) and Attikus (It takes a Thrall to know a Thrall). And since Nova’s Robot Suit is S-Tier, it was a guaranteed pick.
Can’t wait for the next episode!

I have the season planned out and it’s really quite fun. I’m looking forward to continuing it, especially the end. Of course, the polls will shape it. I also have a fun interactive part coming up that will be different, too.

Also, I’m looking forward to Nova in her robot suit, if it wins. I can’t imagine how that’s going to change things!

I must campaign for Orendi. How can you do a spooky killer story and not include the Chaos Witch?

The voting will be closing soon, so the Battleborn with the highest votes will go through to the madness that this story is about to turn into.

PREVIOUSLY ON THE POLLS…

Alani / Galilea / Montana / Orendi / Pendles & Whiskey Foxtrot - 12%
Ambra & Oscar Mike - 25%
Deande & Attikus - 37%
Rath & Nova - 50%
ISIC - 62%

The characters with the highest votes went forward, which includes ISIC, Rath and Nova. Deande and Attikus are still very much a possibility, so we’ll keep them in the sidelines for now.

I’ve chosen these only because five characters seems quite a lot for the story I’m telling. It was a tough decision I had to make, so I apologize if you were looking forward to see Thrall vs Thrall action. Again, it’s still very much a possibility to include them, but they won’t be introduced in this segment.

Season Two: ”Beatrix and the Beast of Tempest”

Part Two: The Terror

Beatrix’s lab. Nova.
Beatrix stood in front of the Battleborn that she had chosen, which was ISIC and Rath. Rath, since he was a fellow Jennerit, knew how to wield a sword, or rather two of them, and ISIC, well, Beatrix had a soft spot for anyone who was morally corrupt like she was.

Beatrix told them about the murders, and that she wanted to investigate them. Whatever was doing this had to be stopped, but Beatrix kept a few things in the dark for a “need-to-know-basis”. For example, they didn’t know this beast was a Thrall and that she had a hunch her research may have had a hand in this beast’s creation. That was yet to be confirmed, though.

“Does anyone have any questions before we go forward?”
“I don’t like the idea of assisting you in this… research” Rath groans.
“Well, I sure as hell do, fella” chirps ISIC, “I sure as hell want to meet the beast that is killing all these innocent people who in no way, shape or form, deserved to die, and shake his hand.”
“I take that as a no, then.”

Wrath. Village on Tempest
The clouds of Tempest were thick, like the texture of gray acrylic paint. It was gloomy and the air was heavy with the scent of burning smoke. It didn’t bother Beatrix much, the smell was welcome from the clean air that Nova provided. The ramp yawned open and slowly descended to the soft grass below. They started to walk to the outskirts of the small village of Wrath when they heard two large heavy clumps walking down the ramp behind them.

They turn to see a strange robot practically skipping down the ramp. It was average height, with a bulbous white body — similarly built like Kid Ultra — with sleek metal and a long panel of glass down the middle where Nova’s face appeared like the face of Zordon. Her robot suit had two thick arms; one equipped with missiles, the other a machine gun.

The design seemed dated, too, like it hadn’t seen action in, well, maybe forever.

“What do you think?” Nova says as she strikes a pose. “Pretty shiny, huh? I know. I got Kleese to brush the old robo-suit off. Actually, that’s a lie, I totally stole it but hey, we’re on some down time and even an AI like myself needs some free time off, otherwise what I’d be doing would be called ‘slave labour’ and that’s totally not cool, not in a thousand years.”

“Nova?” Rath asks, speechless.
“Rath?” Nova replies, matching his tone.
“What are you doing here…?”

“Well, I did mention about the whole slave labour thing. Apparently that’s a thing and also I’m bored, like really bored, so bored in fact I need something to spice up my life. Also, hi ISIC. We can be robo-pals. Isn’t that sweet? I bet it’s sweet. I bet you like my sweet robo-bod. Okay, that’s weird, also, I haven’t been outside the ship since the time we destroyed that Refinery. I’m speaking too much, amt’I? I’m totally rampaging through this like a lunatic. I’ll stop. For now.”

“You can join,” says Beatrix, “but only if you stop talking.”
Nova lets out a squeal and hops from one leg to another while waving her arms in the air.
“Eeeeeee! AWAY MISSIONS!”

The first thing they needed to do was track down the last place Varia was last seen. It wasn’t particularly hard, as a house on the outskirts of the small village was locked down and taped off, and those who they spoke to mentioned a woman of that name lived there.
“This place is hella spooky.” Nova says as she looks around her.

Varia’s house. Wrath. Tempest
The house has been ransacked and the door has been busted down. The door is too small for ISIC, so Nova and Rath go inside with Beatrix as they investigate the home.

Beatrix prances over to a room where Varia must have been in. Right enough, there’s blood, but no body. Beatrix asks them to look around while she finds a smashed holo-pad lying on the ground. She opens it up and finds notes and research. It appeared Varia was also investigating the beast.
“Spooky, huh?” Beatrix looks over at Nova as she peers at a bunch of notes on the wall. Rath comes into the room.
“Nothing. Whatever came through here, it had a strength of a Thrall.”
“Indeed” Beatrix says as she gives Nova the holo-pad. “Think you could hack into this and find anything useful?”
“Hack stuff?” Nova laughs, “I’m the hack-master, trademark pending.”
She plugs a small device into the holo-pad. Outside, Beatrix scans the surrounding area when a young man comes towards them. “Are you detectives?” he asks.
“Just paying condolences.” Beatrix replies.
“Are you a relative?”
“A good friend. Where’s the body?”
“Oh, I’m afraid it’s rather gruesome”
ISIC and Beatrix share a look.
“We’d really like to see.”

House. Wrath. Tempest
Beatrix pulls the sheet over to reveal a woman who didn’t resemble Varia at all, or what parts remained of the woman didn’t resemble her.
“That’s a dead body” Nova says dryly.
“Indeed” Rath replies, feeling a little sick.
Beatrix and ISIC were unmoved by the gruesome body, which had its chest ripped open and had large lacerations down its back. The young man, who they found out was named Lino, stepped inside the room.
“Well? Is that your friend?”
“I’m afraid not. Was she definitely found in the house?”
“Yep. We heard the screams and went to the house only to find her.”
“How often has this been happening?” Rath asks him as Lino drapes the sheet over the body.
“About a month. Frequent, too. Wait, you’ve heard of the Beast of Tempest? ‘The Terror of Wrath’?”
“Yes” says Beatrix, “but I’m afraid this isn’t the woman I’m looking for. Pity. I was hoping to find something on her”
“Who are you people?” Lino asks, “I mean, you seem rather…” he didn’t continue, but his look at the two robots, the vampire and the teenage girl with a syringe stitched into her body seemed to say it all.

What a weird team.

“We’re the Battleborn” Rath says proudly, “we’ve had a hand in dealing with the Varelsi. Which reminds me, maybe this beast is a Varelsi?”
“Perhaps”, Beatrix lies, when she looks at the holo-pad. This was Varia’s holo-pad; the research, the notes, the fact the e-mail was sent from this exact device, proved it. But she needed more clues, more… something, and standing around a body wasn’t going to give them it. Beatrix knew the truth, that they were looking for a Thrall, but they didn’t. Having had nothing, they were forced to go back to Nova and wait until the next body showed up.

Beatrix’s lab. Nova. Later.
Beatrix was bored. Waiting for this thing to strike again wasn’t the best option, but in the meantime she searched through the holo-pad. Varia had traced it to old research Beatrix and Varia accompanied on, old research that made total sense. Why didn’t she think about it before? Rath comes into her lab with news. Lino had gone missing. The Terror of Wrath had attacked again.

Lino’s House. Tempest
Beatrix, Nova, ISIC and Rath arrived at once where they found Lino’s sister, Jess. When she saw Beatrix, it was almost as if she recognized her.

“We came as soon as we could” Rath says as he goes to comfort the woman
“Thank you for coming.”
“Where was the last place he was at?” Beatrix says, cutting to the chase
“We went searching for our dog when something came out and attacked us! I ran to get help, and I thought he was behind me but he wasn’t. I went searching for him and I couldn’t find him”

What was Beatrix, an idiot? This was the stupidest thing she had ever heard.

“Where was the place again?”
“In the woods, not too far from here. I could show you. Maybe you’d have more luck”

As they followed Jess, Lino’s sister to the woods, Nova shuffled up next to Beatrix.
“You don’t buy this story, do you?”
“No. It’s clearly a lie, but it may be a clue”
“What do we do if we find it?” Rath asks
“We kill it and I take it back to examine”

The woods outside Wrath
The woods was made up of dead trees and was quite dense.

“It was around here”, Jess says to them
There was nothing here. Beatrix turns to Rath.
“Ready yourself.”

They readied themselves as they searched the area, when Beatrix found scratches on a tree similar to the same scratches found on the body. “Did Lino mention anything about the beast?”
“It steals limbs, and organs.” Jess says, “I think the woman who died had her heart taken out.
“Did Lino investigate it?”
“Who else was going to do it? Everyone is scared and Lino thought he would be the only person to look into it.”
A shuffling of leaves catches their attention. Rath grips his swords, ISIC puts up his rotating wards and Nova readies herself with her missiles. It was dark, too dark. They bunched together.
“Jess.”
“Yes?”

Suddenly, a loud scream can be heard close-by followed by a large shadow comes running towards them. Rath uses catalyst smash, but the creature comes rushing through it and throws Rath out of the way. ISIC attacks while Nova squeals and fires her machine-gun, but whatever they did, it didn’t seem to affect the creature. It made its way straight towards Beatrix, ignoring the others, when ISIC dashed forward, stunning the creature long enough for Rath and Nova to get a few hits in. Overwhelmed, the creature lets out a ferocious roar and swipes at Rath, hitting him in the chest.

Beatrix shoots at it when Jess knocks her across the head with something. The last thing Beatrix sees is Nova and ISIC dropping to the ground and Rath being thrown into a tree. Jess stands over Beatrix with a branch. She looks past her to see the beast taking one of them away, when Jess strikes down, knocking her out. Everything goes black when she hears Jess screaming, and a familiar voice emerges…
“Is she okay?”

Poll: who did the creature kidnap? This is a crucial choice for the story.

Season Two: ”Beatrix and the Beast of Tempest”

Part Three: Spooky Action at a Distance

Undisclosed location.
Beatrix wakes up to the unfamiliar sight of a bedroom when Varia opens the door and steps inside. She leans against the door-frame and gives Beatrix a raised eyebrow.

“I didn’t expect you to be alive, doctor” says Beatrix as she sits up.
“I would offer you food, but I remembered you don’t eat”
“I stay alive in other ways.”
“That you do.”

A moment of silence before Varia steps a bit closer to her.

“I didn’t expect you to be alive, either, not after that holo-mail you sent”
“You want answers. They want answers—” Varia says pointing to the next room “And I was going to tell them when it turned out they are just as in the dark.”
Beatrix doesn’t say anything. Varia lets out a sigh.
“At least tell them something. The Jennerit? Well, he didn’t think it was a Thrall. The Magnus? They’re not exactly sure what’s happening.”
“I’ll tell them” Beatrix says as she gets up. She looks up at the woman who is slightly taller than her. Long, strawberry blonde hair, striking Eldrid features with moss growing on her skin, Varia was modestly beautiful and one of the stranger kinds of the Eldrid sub-species.

Varia gives Beatrix an awkward hug and observes her, brushing a long strand of black hair away from her face to reveal her metal eye-patch.

“What have we done?” Varia whispers to her.
“We’re about to find out.”

Next door, Beatrix sees ISIC and Rath, who was bruised from the fight, but no Nova.
“Where’s Nova?” Beatrix asks
“Gone. Kidnapped.” the voice didn’t come from either of them, but Deande who strut through from another room. “When I heard what we were doing here, I thought I would keep an eye out. Now that the literal mind of the ship is gone, getting her back is far more important.”
Rath wasn’t much pleased either. “Exactly what is going on here?”
“If I find that beast again, I’m ripping him a new a***hole” ISIC pipes up. “I’m sure as hell pissed, and if I don’t get answers within the next few minutes—” he begins to laugh “—I’m going to murder you without a grain of doubt in my shiny metal body.”
“Will I tell them?” Varia asks.
“I thought this woman was the one who was murdered?” Rath asks, getting impatient.
“Where’s Lino? Jess?”
“The girl? Oh, she got away as soon as I stepped from the shadows” says Deande “and the beast disappeared. I eventually lost track of it”
“Well, it all seems like you want answers. So let’s get you those answers, shall we?”

Woodlands outside Wrath
As they trekked through the forest, Beatrix and Varia found some time to catch-up and find out she had worked elsewhere, over on Ekkunar, when she got word that research they had worked on was being used here on Wrath, and when she got here and started investigating the numerous deaths, it fuelled her own suspicions about what was really going on here.

But it was time for Beatrix to face the fact that the past is never really gone, and never really forgotten.

Why this Thrall was killing people and taking limbs was unusual, though and Varia wasn’t exactly sure either, but she also didn’t think they were dealing with a serial killer.

When it came to Lino and Jess, Varia had her suspicions as well. They were clearly hiding something and in on this and the whole spiel with their dog? Beatrix was disappointed that they didn’t come up with a better lie. Jess recognised her, but Beatrix didn’t remember her, or Lino.

“Where are we going?” Rath asks, bored witless when they emerge from the trees to see an unsuspecting house with a steeple.
“Here” Beatrix says as she turns to him.

Beatrix and Varia’s old Lab. Outside Wrath
The place was covered with cobwebs — some the size of Beatrix — and was pitch dark. Varia lights a few torches and candles while Deande, Rath and ISIC wander through the large house. They come to a secret passage that takes them further down a corridor to a large room underneath the ground.

As they looked around, Deande plucks a few photographs off a desk revealing grotesque transformations — people to Thrall, Thrall to people. She waves them towards Beatrix.
“What is this?”
Beatrix looks at Varia and turns to Deande with a smile.
“What we’re looking for”
“Yes, but… what are we looking for? What is this?”
“We’re looking for what I suppose is a Were-Thrall.”
“A what?” Rath asks

“A Were-Thrall. A decade or so ago, Varia and I thought that by mixing the strength of the Thrall with an organic, it would enhance their capabilities. It would add to the sustainment of our species, with less… drama.
“Our experiments took here, in this very room, and in an attempt to create a species of our own making, of our own design, we failed. Miserably, so. By mixing the Thrall and Human DNA, we created various failed experiments, but I, myself, assumed it could be done.”

“You tried to make a new species? A mix between a Thrall and a, a person?” Deande asks
“That’s soooo f***ed up, fella” ISIC also adds with his usual happy cheer.

“The experiments ended up becoming a waste of my time, but as it turns out, the experiment did indeed work. It just needed time.”

“So what? We’re looking for a… a Thrall or a person?” Rath asks, confused.
“Both”, replies Beatrix, “if I am correct, this person is able to shift between an actual Thrall and become a person at will. Why they’re taking limbs and organs is something else, but it would require surgical skill, and from the body we’ve seen, it appears this person has none.”
“I’m not so convinced”, butts in Varia. “You’ve seen, what? One body? I’ve seen countless. It’s getting sloppy, but it definitely has surgical skill.”

“How many did you… work on?” Rath asks
“A dozen or so.”
“And do you suspect this Lino is one of them?”
“Too young. Same with Jess. But they know someone who is, and that person wants me. Notice during the fight, it ignored all of you? It was me who it was after.”
“I can’t really blame them” Rath murmurs.
“Well, it’s still pretty f***ed up and if I were him, or her, I would totally rip you to f***ing shreds” ISIC chimes in.
“Thank you, ISIC. I know it would be from a place of love”
“And hatred, not to mention unbridled rage and an obsessive need to wipe your name from the very cosmos itself.” he says, laughing.

“So, now what?” Rath asks.
“Varia. You know anything about these people? This Lino and Jess?” Deande pipes in. Varia shifts uncomfortably.
“Lino’s been intent on finding it. Both orphans as far as I can tell. She’s in her hundreds, he’s younger. Both sustained, which is interesting.”
“Sustained? But Sustainment is for the upper echelon of society?” says Rath
“I assumed their parents did it.”
“Does sustainment even work with the experiment?” Deande asks Beatrix

“Yes and no. On one hand, Varia and I thought that by mixing the DNA of a Thrall with a regular person, we could create sustainment through less energy-expensive ways, so working on both a person who was already sustained and not sustained had two different outcomes: one, a person who was sustained and was worked on had increased strength, and changed, as seen in those photos, but died.”
“Died…? But how?” Rath asks
“The experiment reverse-engineered sustainment. Don’t ask me how, it just did. When we worked on a person who wasn’t sustained, they tended to live longer but didn’t have the desired apex capabilities the others had—”

“You’re saying that on one hand, a sustained victim had strength but was reverse-sustained, but a person who wasn’t sustained had the capability to change into a Thrall?”
“Both could turn into a Thrall, but yes.”

“So where does that leave us?” Rath asks. “Is it possible Lino and Jess’ parents were apart of the experiments?”
“That would mean… what?” Deande replies, “that they had children? If they were sustained…”
“The undeserved effect. That’s what it would mean.” Beatrix says as she looks at the holo-pad on the table.

“So how do we find out who this is?”
“We track them down, one-by-one. Since the sustained were reverse-engineered, nature took its course almost immediately," Beatrix says, and when she notices their confused look, she continues, “Imagine a dam holding water. At first, the water is small, maybe a lake, but overtime the water rose and rose until it was holding back an entire ocean. That’s sustainment. That’s what it’s done to us, which is holding back nature and ageing. When that dam is destroyed, the water pushes through…”

“They aged almost immediately….” Rath says, finally hitting him. “They were dust, but not before we found out how powerful they were. A brief moment of normality until things took their course, accordingly.” Beatrix replies. “That is why they didn’t survive. We tried to mix the two, as each had the desired effect: strength, longevity, sustainment without energy. Regardless what hybrid they turned into, they either died too soon, or lived without ever changing. Until now.”

“So you were creating a species that were separate to the Jennerit?” Deande asks. “But why?”
“Why not?” asks Varia, “we could have a species that had the immortality of a Jennerit, but with brute force and intelligence–”

“–A Thrall-like being who had a higher IQ, was more powerful than anything and could be more human” Beatrix adds. “It was a perfect idea.”

Beatrix gives them profiles of people.

“These are the people we’re looking for. These four survived. My guess is that one of them is doing this, and Lino and Jess are helping them do it.”

“How do we narrow it down?” asks Rath
“We don’t.”

Thrall’s Experimental Lab
Nova comes to inside a large metal cage in a room full of them.
“Well, this isn’t the strangest place I’ve woken up in” she says as she tries to shake the bars free. “Huh. The cage is closed. I guess I was supposed to have known that but I didn’t.”
She hears loud, heavy footsteps coming into the room where a strange Thrall-Person hybrid stands in front of the cage. “I need your brain” it booms before unlocking the cage and tearing her outside.
“I don’t have a brain”
“You have smart head.”
“I have a smart… head? Whoa, easy there on the compliments or you’ll make me blush”
“You have personality”
“The naysayers say otherwise, but who am I to judge?”

Nova is dragged into a room where, lying on the table is a remarkably beautiful woman who has been stitched and re-stitched. The Thrall chains Nova to a chair beside the body.
“What are you doing?”
“I need your brain.” the Thrall says as it gets everything ready. “Purge you and put you into her. Bring her to life.”
“Uh, okay, well, you see, there’s a slight problem. First of all, I maintain and pretty much run an entire ship. Second of all, I’m not one for moral flesh as organics tend to make me sick”
“I do not care.”
“Okay, well, I certainly do. Hey. How about I make you a deal, ay? People like deals, it’s why gambling is so addictive and fun. How about you let me live and I’ll find you an organic whose brain is way cooler than mine. Interested?”
The Thrall stops for a moment to reconsider… WHAT DOES THE THRALL DO?

  • Choice One: TAKE HER UP ON THE OFFER. The Thrall is tempted by her offer and reconsiders. Nova helps the Thrall get a better person suited for whatever the hell it’s up to. If this is the case, it’ll lead to another vote that asks people to vote which female Battleborn’s brain should be purged into the body. That Battleborn will seize to exist, but don’t worry, none of this is canon. YET.
  • Choice Two: HE GOES AHEAD AND UPLOADS HER. Without Nova, the ship won’t be able to fly, but that doesn’t stop the Thrall from going ahead and uploading her brain into the body. On one hand, Nova gets a sick new bod and finally becomes human (yay?) but if you choose this, Nova may never be able to control the ship ever again.

I was hoping to have an interactive part where Beatrix, Rath, Deande and ISIC are given profiles and it was up to you to match the clues to the profiles to find out who the Thrall is. I messed up and didn’t give myself enough lead in, so here’s a poll instead.

Also, if you guys have ideas for other interactive ways, let me know. I’m sure you’re getting sick of looking at polls.

Have fun and don’t forget to vote :kissing_heart:

Yeah, I’ve noticed that I tend to be quick, which is why I’m going to try and give it more time before continuing.

I like the quickness, so you don’t have to wait ages for the next part. But at the same time, I am a slowpoke. XD Honestly, you should just post at the speed that is comfortable to you. ;p

24 hours exactly should be the minimum time waited before closing the poll and continuing, so that people from all time-zones have a chance to participate.

As it is, i have marked this thread as “watched”, so that i personally don’t continue to miss out on voting.
