I don’t like F2P either. Usually.
Mostly because i find it easily abusive (Whales, addiction, gamble, etc)
But some does it well, and Warframe is always my prime example of F2P done well.
Digital Extremes also really care about it and their community (They are active on their forums, Stream often, and even got a convention now)
Thing is: Warframe is self-published.
Battleborn is not.
I’m kinda afraid at what 2K/Take-two will do with a Free-to-play model.
Publishers are not the best when it come to F2P.

I think most of all, I’m excited for this because I want everyone to learn the heroes and grow to love them as I have. I’ve invested hundreds of hours into Battleborn, and I feel my patience has been rewarded over and over again, every time I master a new hero. I want people to get past that “Oh, look at this random wacky Gearbox cast”, and I want them to learn the personalities and playstyles. It’s so worth it to them, and the game deserves to be seen.

I have to say that I have very mixed feelings on the whole thing if Battleborn does indeed go free-to-play.

No they haven’t. Whether or not it comes to console solely depends on how profitable the game proves on PC. They’ve only just added a currency that uses real money. Technically, I believe Stage 2 is still in beta.
Back on topic. I think going F2P mid cycle sucks for those of us who bought the game. I wish that it had been F2P from the start. It sure seems like it was designed that way.
Personally, I don’t think going F2P will save this game. So many people have tried it through the beta and various sales, but not stuck around.

This is an insane idea, but how would you feel if Founders or whatever could get platinum by playing if it really went FTP? And a giant amount of platinum and a few free skins for obvious reasons. And then maybe you can upgrade to platinum level for like 20 bucks or something.
Also I kinda doubt this. Kotaku is fun to read, terrible to take with even a grain of salt without it being confirmed

If they can’t give us any word on things like release dates then I doubt we would get much word on this
I’m OK with this, assuming they implement a Founders status like Evolve, where those who’ve bought the game get an assload of free content, and access to a significant amount of future content.
Basically, not immediate return, but over time possibly greater returns with devotion to the game. I might make a topic about this as I’m really beginning to like the idea. @moderators, would this be enough to put in its own topic or should I lobby for it in ftp threads?
Gearbox have given no indication (that I’m aware of) that they intend to down this route.

Unfortunately its the kind of rumormongering that GBX has to respond to quickly.
If people think it’s going FTP within a month, you can expect the discounted games to rot on digital shelves, which is just going to make the current population issues worse.

Right now, I’d say, we’ve probably reached the core audiences across the platforms. I don’t see them diminishing, especially now with the hopes F2P would bring.
I think gearbox won’t give up yet since they have been working nonstop to make it better so maybe they might be thinking, “hey, maybe if we wait this out, people might start to get bored of their games (Overwatch, Paladins, etc) and start moving to battleborn. In which we’ll be jacked out with lot’s of stuff to do.”
I can’t see it as throwing in the towel, as free to play is actually VERY risky if players can’t be kept, I don’t really mind as I’m on console, and honestly I think games like this should have a free to play model (some exceptions)

I kind of feel that Battleborn should have been FTP since launch, as it just FEELS like that kind of game… to me. So i’d be fine with it. HOWEVER… I would like to see some sort of compensation for the $80 i’ve spent.
Give my Orendi FIVE arms, Gearbox, and we’ll call it even…
