Rumor; Battleborn Free To Play soon

Randy Pitchford tweeted this now:

“We have some unannounced plans to do a trial version of the game that would be free and from which retail can be purchased along with DLC.”

Is this about Battleborn? If yes - sounds good.

EDIT: yes, it’s about Battleborn. And he said that they are not planning on making BB a free to play game.

■■■■ yea awesome news
Exactly what I wanted to hear

I apologize for the profanity

I, personally, am relieved with that news. Thanks for relaying that info.

I don’t feel like reading this whole thread. Are the people foolish enough to spend 60 to 75 dollars on this game going to get any form of compensation? I feel like I just got scammed.

As long as I get some sort of compensation for the 150 Canadian dollars I’ve sunk into this game so far, I have no complaints with it going free to play.

Sorry, I know these reasons have been stated in other threads, but I’m forgetful / lazy.

Why again do so many people think that Battleborn going free to play would be such a terrible idea?

People say it will bring in toxic players, but I’m pretty sure we can deal with them. It sounds like they might make the PvP F2P, with raids sold. I wouldn’t mind that.

Toxic players Eh?

Mute / kill!

@FlamesforAll , @Goldhawk1 this might interest you, I think its a very important piece of info.

So yeah, it seems there´ll be a free trial version (I guess much content & chars cut away, a classic demo-version) no full F2P-release.

@Ganjamira

Already read that, but thank you kindly anyway.

Okay^^

as someone who payed full price i´m completely okay with a free demo-version for others. IF the demo has:
-limited chars (“starter pack”)
-limited maps (one for each mode, 2-3 for PvE as in the Beta)
-limited Gear(1-2 loadouts, no legendary drops)

For a full Evolve-nesque F2P-relaunch I´d understand the demand for Founder-status and some goodies for the veterans, but a trial-version is something different.

At all, I just hope it will bring in more players, especially on PC.

And don’t queue those players with the veterans, please, just don’t make this mistake once again.

I hope beyond hope they don’t lock heroes past a paywall, and have pvp free, otherwise it won’t work. People have to be able to learn every hero themselves to PvP.

@matrixltu

At what point could they start queuing wuth the vets?

Hopefully, the matchmaking would be able to flex its’ muscles for once, poor thing. It needs exercise.

But then they will gonna have nearly full game (minus pve, I guess) if they can level up the command rank, unlock all the heroes up until lvl 40 Ghalt and get full pvp experience just like that. A demo has to have restrictions.

Well, basically theres the difference between a demo/trial-version and a full F2P-release.
First thing involves a paywall, since the goal is to sell more copies to generate a bigger playerbase.
What you like to see is a PvP-F2P-release, which is no bad idea, but I doubt that its what Gbx wanted BB to become…

Yeah, It’s just really hard to think of a demo that would be effective that showcased the brilliant PvP, but in a fair manner to consumers and devs. Knowing the heroes is such a major part of the game, it seems that not being able to play the hero to learn how to beat them would lead to more frustration. I’m scratching my head trying to think of an effective way to demo the game.

Maybe a “pay a certain amount to unlock a specific character”?

Not too expensive, but enough so that it would be a good amount cheaper to just buy the full game rather than purchasing characters one by one?

@Autumnal

No ftp. The current plan is a trial followed by having to buy the actual game
