of course, use ancient vids and not actually try the moves to see how they synergize.
Or they’re a new player who isn’t as proficient with Maya as others here. It never hurts to take the safe road and consider every question seriously. They asked their question, they got their answer. How they choose to play Maya or Gige now is a choice that is up to them, and we shouldn’t attempt to derail the thread or put them down because of a perception they have about a character or who they got their build from. Thats just childish and not what we should be doing on this board.
Well said. The OP has made a topic like this before for Maya and replied in it. I don’t consider him a troll, just someone I don’t agree with.
Dunno seems trolly to me. Either way it was a good read
Afew more points.
Zero doesn’t have Scorn, or lifetap, or any healing skill besides Innverate and Resurgence. Every BL2 character would die to have a skill like converge or Ward. She is in a league of her own when it comes to crowd control skills.
What is so bad about her being a healer? Every good party needs a medic.
DOTs didn’t do much in TVHM. You use elemental wepaons for the increased damage modifier, not DOTs.
And if Maya is on their team, they don’t have to use Moxxi weapons to heal themselves, freeing up other slots. Besides, Axton and Krieg don’t need Moxxi weapons either, gaige is kinda iffy, and Sal doesn’t need Maya’s healing anyway.
Also, Maya’s skills heal a % of your partners MAX health, while Moxxi weapons only deal a percentage of damage dealt, so Maya’s skills are far better for constant healing than Moxxi burst heals, which end whenever you have to reload or switch weapons.
They can get you out of health gate, but they won’t keep you out. Her healing skills let you regen health from so many places; while damaging enemies, while being damaged by enemies, while having targets phaselocked, and when killing them. Thats 4 instnces of healing that can happen every encounter. Moxxi only heals you while you do damage with them equipped, so you have to constantly damage enemies to survive. Why do that when you can just take Maya’s healing skills, hide in cover, regen your health, kill an enemy, then get even more health?
It just doesn’t make sense on Maya to rely on Moxxi for heling. Her regen skills are just too good and too many. If you give them a chance, you may find that they’re pretty good after all.
She’s fantastic as a team member for her res skill.
And in both solo and team she’s great in UVHM for her slagging capabilities.
And her phaselock is quite awesome/useful.
However, in raids I do feel like she is gimped.
Been drinking beer and eating popcorn while watching this thread.
Yep. Both have ways of healing without Moxxi weapons.
Gaige doesn’t really need them, but the Hail is one of the best ARs to use with her when she’s specced into Anarchy and fifty-fifty due to its firing pattern.
I think it’s a mistake to rely on any Moxxi weapons as the sole source of healing because of the health gate mechanics. Besides, Maya should have a beefy shield and Ward is very good at keeping those shields up most of the time.
Anyway, Maya isn’t bad, she’s just drawn that way.
Judging by his other posts, I don’t think he’s a troll. To me, there’s nothing in his other posts that screams “TROLL!”. The posts are actually pretty honest and he seems to genuinely want to make his Maya work. However, he’s the type that calls the Norfleet “Northfleet”. That says a lot. He also starts threads to share stuff that’s pretty much common knowledge at this point as if he just found out about them. I’m thinking he’s more of an inexperienced, very unimaginative and limited player than a troll. A true troll would have already replied to this thread attempting to justify his original opinion with even more baseless comments.
I very much doubt this fellow is a Troll. Also, I feel the opinion would’ve been a bit more inconsistent and less nuanced. That being said, I can’t say I get where any of this is coming from.
Maya’s greatest strengths are listed as weaknesses, and it seems like this goes along with the trend of confusing preference for efficacy. I don’t doubt we’ve all done it at some time, but unfortunately this individual is doing it right now.
I can engage in it to.
Thesis; Krieg is easily the greatest character.
Reason; If I don’t hear constant psychotic screaming I become instantly catatonic.
that’s actually true, which explains why i’ve had so much time sitting on my ass while my wife visits her folks.
I find myself wondering how many players were born with an innate understanding of the game, and have not learned anything from YouTube, forums, in-game chatter, etc. I am unashamed to say that YouTube inspired a lot of my tinkering, and that I would not be the same player without little tips from those sources.
If the OP is new, he’s new. Unfamiliar with a way of utilizing Maya? No problem. Nobody came out of the womb chucking Scorn and Chain Reaction.
I laughed REALLY, REALLY hard imagining a literal version of this. I kind of imagine this was how Dr. House was born…
True. But nobody comes out of the womb espousing the belief that Maya can’t fight her way out of a wet paper bag and is only sorta-good for nursing, either. I’d kinda like to know how he formed his opinion, tbh.
I certainly didn’t. I checked YouTube, these forums, the old forums, talked to other players about their experiences, and learned how things worked in-game. Hell, I’m still learning the various nuances of different gear and skills. One thing I won’t do is come on here saying a particular character is worthless because I know none of the characters are worthless, but not all fit my playstyle. But The1and500 does have the bad habit of making threads like this and not supporting their argument when it’s rebutted. I understand some of the comments could be a little…disconcerting, but there have been plenty of comments showing the OP’s original argument is false and we’ve heard nothing in response.
In the end, yes, none of us were experts at any of the characters when we first started, but don’t expect to start a thread like this and not have those of us who’ve played a character and understand their strengths and weaknesses not to voice our opinions on the subject. No character is bad, there are just bad ways to play them.
My position, and that which I challenge people to consider, is that the best way for each of us to be is to strive continuously to feed positives into the community. I fully support the exchange of ideas and information. The magic of communication toward a goal is to find ways to package those ideas and pieces of information so that they may be received. When we assume a negative or condemning stance, we shut out people who could have become valuable contributors if we gave them every opportunity to learn.
In a nutshell, I’d love it if we could be good neighbors to each other.
Also, this isn’t a derail post. I have proof. I said, “opportunity”. That’s in the game.
My siren is the prettiest.
That may very well be the case, but… My Siren is the LOUDEST!
I think virtually everyone on these forums fully agree with that sentiment, but the OP clearly does not.
When I have struggled with a build I have asked for help instead of writing a condemning piece full of inaccuracies and passive aggression - and finishing said piece with claiming some matters are beyond debate, and indeed not replying to any following posts.
That’s not how communication works.
Given the OP’s thread in the Gaige section (locked on account of explosive Norfleets), said forum member seems to have settled on a very specific source of BL2 information.
If at some point they wish to learn better, they have only to - ask.
Yell and holler, be frustrated beyond words: that’s fine.
If one draws lines in the sand, however, helping is going to be that much more difficult.
You raise some very good points, HD, but the reason I’m responding to this bit is because I help those who want to be helped, I don’t waste my time on those who don’t. The OP clearly is one of the later. As @cioran said, if they actually wanted help with their build, they wouldn’t have flat out stated Maya sucks and, instead, would have asked about their build and how to make it better. @The1and500 clearly doesn’t desire our help, so we’ve retracted our extended hand to them. I know it may seem like the community is ganging up on him, but there are plenty of examples where others come here asking for help and leave grateful of all of the advice they’ve been given. The same could have been done here, but the OP set the tone in their post that they would not change their mind about Maya and, thusly, we have what happened here. I wish the OP would have stuck around and taken our advice to heart, but I’m not surprised they didn’t. It’s real hard to change someone’s mind when they refuse to rethink their stance on an issue.
Since the1and500 hasnt replied, all that seems to be going on here is either derailment, or pure speculation about the OP calling him a troll, stating he dosnt want help, or the very few defending him.
I think this thread has done its time.
