Salvester Chases OP8-ey Bird

Once more, with feeling!

Salvester caught OP4!! :sunglasses: Storm Front heals, for the win. Also, thinning the herd before taking it on helps a great deal.
The first set of digistruct chests gifted him an OP3 Explicit Unkempt Harold. Thank you, RNGSUS! I would’ve preferred an OP3 coach gun with a mag size of three, but I’m sure one will come along soon enough. Next stop, OP5. After I catch my breath.

So, I took the repetitive dashboard farming leap and went for an OP4 ROM with Maytastrophe. Only took 3 hours of dashboarding to get what i wanted. Took it straight to the peak. All I can say is “DAAAAAAAAMN”. By the time I got to the Black Queens I felt like screaming like Treat Williams in “Things to do in Denver when you’re Dead”. “You’re Tokyo, and I’m Godzilla!!!” I was laughing maniacally the whole run. Three unlocks left before the grand “Thank you” post that y’all can expect.

man, I must have missed this thread, or forgot about it. catching up a bit. @Piemanlee @Jefe and of course, the Deputy himself, @DeputyChuck
all have great advice on your build. I’m right there with Jefe on his analysis. I agreed completely with moving that single point from:

couldn’t agree more. great advice given by all. I wished I was here when it went down to chime in. I love this stuff.

the only thing I would do is get yourself a chain lightning. I know Chuck swears by the Storm front, and for good reason. But I just can’t pass up the nade regen. I love that affect. and pacing yourself is so crucial, I actually purposely charge in with no zerk just to test my strafing skills. “Get Some” is very crucial for me on my Dep Sal.

OP4, sweet dude! hopefully, Jefe and I will get to OP4 tonight.

edit: since we’re on the subject, I plan to farm an OP2 RR shield before Jefe gets online tongiht as well as a chain lightning. the nade might not happen as I would have to go through the story far enough to farm it. it’s be cool if you were on PC, we could hit the peak as a team.

You’ve been here in spirit, definitely. When you called the Deputy “the one true build” you put me on the path to where I am, studying at the feet of the masters. I still carry the MM for nade regen, it’s the coolest thing since electric refrigerators. This latest unlock, OP5 this morning, gave me my first sense of “OP8 is possible”, before that I had just assumed that I was lacking the skill/patience to get there myself. Now I think the only patience I might lack is the patience to dashboard for my forever ROM after I get there. I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities for you to give me advice, I’ve got 5 other toons on their way that are sure to get their own threads when I hit a wall. I may do the pc switcheroo when my son gets old enough to keep me off of the tv, so team peaking is always a possibility, even if I need to wait for it. :sunglasses:

I’m a patient man. I’d wait for that. and that is exactly why I switched.

I don’t think you’re lacking skill at all. But! and it’s a big BUT… “patience is where its at with Dep Sal.” @DeputyChuck nailed it on the head with pacing yourself, especially in the Peak. Of course, it depends on your build but for me personally, I don’t have the ability to stay in zerk mode once the mob is dead, and as I stated above, I purposely keep charging even when my zerk runs out cause I like the additional challenge of having to stay up, and not go into FFYL. I do it a lot but it doesn’t always pay off. lmao  If I’m recording, I’ll pace myself cause i want to look cool, and not take a knee. But when I solo or coop with “kali” I just charge cause its funner for me and I get the res from @Jefe Teamwork! :innocent:

Took Salvester to the Peak on the run to unlock OP6. A few failures, all operator error. First to the Assassins arena where I didn’t get Storm Fronts out fast enough to survive the Spider tank’s first salvo. Second and third to the twin Doc Mercys because I got a little too close a lot too soon. Fourth shot I met OMGWTH for the first time. I used all 10 grenades to tank his laser and a few stray rockets while we danced around the building. But in the end he popped in a marvelous, although green, lootsplosion. Tannis then granted me OP6 status. I really like how my failures are all operator error. It feels good to recognize what I did wrong and then do it right. Two more unlocks to go, but I’ll probably update his Neogenator and Harold before we press on.

Today was supposed to be unlock OP7 day. Alas, it was not meant to be. Failed twice, both times to Doc Mercy and his twin. OP3 Storm Front not putting out enough damage for him to tank through their onslaught could be part of the issue, or should we be using singularity nades? I’d prefer Quasars for the AOE heals in addition to the crowd control, but the only ones I have are 72 or lower and either lobbed (72 &sticky) or homing (59 or 60-something, possibly sticky). Or should I update the Storm Front?

What I observed while doing that is that updating your shield is a big help. More than most other parts.

I was using an Evo, and the extra OP7 health really made a difference.

OP7 is a tough run. I just failed twice last night before getting a pivotal piece of gear, that allowed @Jefe and I to breeze through OP7.

^ This right here, made a HUGE difference. Mini bosses like the one you mentioned were tough at OP7 with a level 72 ROM. the extra 800% crit made the difference I was looking for. That might be a game changer for you as well. something to consider.

This too. That is what I did as well going through the Peak. I was using on level RR shields until Jefe gave me a op7 Blockade.

Yeah. I am using an on-level (OP6) Neogenator currently. I’m not sure that I could put the smack down on Hyperious for an Evolution . That’s actually why I’m thinking about either updating or switching up my nades. I could update my Storm Front, farm for a Chain Lightning as per @Kurtdawg13’s suggestion upthread, or hope for Quasars from the loot train or a friendly LLM (I’m a little skittish about leveling up varkids to farm them properly).

Funny thing. I expected D’s mom to be a hurdle I had to work at, but our first meetings have been rather relaxed. I do have a 72 slag Lady Fist in the backpack but am hesitant to switch my Moxxi gun out, especially because I haven’t actually noticed that I’m getting crits on the good doctors. I could open up the Rough Rider farm with Sal (currently only Kriegtopher has it open and he’s stalled at OP2 for the foreseeable future) if you think that might help. @DeputyChuck, what do you think?

A couple small things : the Evo is basically the same as the Neo. There’s no advantage to one or the other ( in the “real world “ ).

Also any purple singularity grenade will do the job of a Quasar. Maybe not for healing though. I managed to find a sticky longbow shock with almost zero fuse and it worked incredibly well. So well that I’ve no need for a Quasar even now.

The thing with the Rubi is that it actually doesn’t give you a lot of tanky healing. It’s usually good enough but when you’re really getting hammered, it’ll fail. So a new Storm Front will help , but not dramatically so. The answer may be a Grog.

My Rubi tangos with my Harold, and my Grog is doing the foxtrot with my ROM. I figured that the Harold could make Rubi’s healing sufficient and that with the ROM I’d want as much of that burst damage to heal as possible. It looks like the shopping list is a new Storm Front and a shock singularity. I’ll probably try again before I go shopping because I still think operator error (read:pacing and idiocy) is the primary contributing factor in my failures. I feel like if I can get to the other side of the Assassins arena I’m golden, and I’m so close to that section that I can smell Reeth’s burning shorts.

If you would rather not use a grog, then updating your grenade might be a good idea. Getting higher damage could compensate for lower healing.

As for the Harold, I really don’t see the point in using that with your setup. A RL would serve you better depending on your needs.

Because crit bonus and burst heals are pretty sweet.
I usually only use the Harold pair when I panic and the mob is relatively close. I have a few RLs in the backpack but rarely equip one. Any in particular you think would be good choices? I know I have a corrosive Maliwan on level, and I think an underleveled slag Topneaa. Of course, Mercenary Day can always come early if I need something different.

I agree with this completely.

honestly, Grog paired with a good parted ROM, would be suffice. I don’t have a Grog on PC. and I hate carrying that damn mission just to have one. So, the Rubi is what I chose. and it worked just fine all the way to OP8. I am not sure what build you’re rolling with, but if you’re using the ROM with a Grog, sounds like a Deputy Build. and if so, no Harold required. I would solely base my damage on my ROM, and make sure I was able to use that as much as possible(meaning I would make sure my Zerk is up as long as possible and putting 5 points into “Get Some” is detrimental when running the Peak. you want cooldown quickly.) without sacrificing relic slot or com slot. deputy badge so your reload is adequate, and com boosting moneyshot. that should do it. Keep your shield on level if possible. I just scrolled to the top to check your build. Dep Build, all the way! :sunglasses:

I read so many threads and check countless builds, I forgot I had already seen your build.

Yeah, when I started I just figured I’d give everything an Unkempt Nozzling and cheese all the way to the top. It turned out that the Deputy setup worked better and more reliably for me, even though I don’t wear a deputy badge because I have been health stacking and stockpiling ammo with the relic slot. What would you swap for the Harold?

Just reread the dep sal thread and found Chuck’s suggested peak build

The Pimp/Launcher combo(creamer being my preferred launcher)

playstyle would be a factor with my answer. not sure if swapping to the Lady’s Fist is your thing. Worked wonders for me personally. I only rolled with 3 weapons slots. leaving one empty so I could easily press “Y”(yes I"m PC, but I defected form Console, so I am controller dependent) to easily/quickly swap to a lady’s fist to time a good moneyshot in someones face or in Dukino’s Mom’s case, their mouth. lol You’d be surprised how much health you’d see chunk off with a well times moneyshot with a lady’s fist in your mainhand.

but if that playstyle doesn’t work for you, I would suggest an on level corrosive Pimp. or a RL of choice. I did my best not to use the obvious exploit of RL/Pimp combo like @Piemanlee just mentioned while I was typing this up.

I have neither pimp nor creamer in my arsenal at this time, but I suppose it might be time to get them. I was kinda hoping to just get them only once after I unlocked OP8, but if I need a better “oh sh**” button I may have to shift that time table a bit.
