Ok. Bear with me. This is the entrance to Ajax’s area. If you look at the rock formation. .(the gap and the hole)…with the rocks off in the distance…it looks like an “A” and an “O”. 
Is that a hint…?

Yeah it seems they fixed the highway in Knoxx DLC to be sure nobody can drive out the road 
It happened pretty much the same thing to me but I was able to drive a bit “uproad” before I drive back down on the road again
