You are assuming GBX has been internally testing a fix for 19 days, simply because there hasn’t been an update for 19 days. That assumption is likely incorrect. Of course, since neither of us actually works for GBX neither of us knows for certain. What I do know for certain is that any fix GBX has been working on will also have to be tested, independently, by Microsoft and pass Microsoft’s Certification process before it can be released on Xbox Live. The same applies to hotfixes or patches for Sony consoles. Sony also has to do an independent testing and Certification process before any fixes are released on PSN. If the fix actually has been 19 days in testing, then it is likely in the process of being tested and (if all goes well) certified for release by Microsoft at this point. If the fix corrects the issue without causing other issues and passes both GBX and Microsoft Certification, then it will be released on Xbox Live. If not, then (like @Jeffybug stated), GBX will have to find another solution to the problem and begin the internal testing followed by independent Microsoft Certification process all over again. IIRC, companies actually have to pay Microsoft or Sony to release hotfixes and patches on Xbox Live or PSN.

I get all that. Fact is this has been broken since launch though. It’s getting ridiculous. They have had more than enough time.

Have you ever been a programmer? Have you ever worked with or on a video game? My guess is no. You dont know what “enough time” is.
Some fixes are a sinch and happen quickly, yes. But not all issues should be expected to be resolved in a matter of days or weeks like most minor issues.
Some problems are MUCH more complicated than i think you are aware of. And unfortunately this is one of those very complicated fixes.

Would you rather they hurry their programmers and send out a sloppy and broken fix? Or take their time, be it months, to get you a REAL working fix?

I have this exact same problem. Just happened to me yesterday. tried to coop with my buddy and it just kept telling me Loading Character Data, please wait…

Just purchased the xbox 1 and Handsome Jack Collection and this is what I get?! Disappointing…

You mention days or weeks. It’s been MONTHS. What I do for a living does not matter. I’ve never seen an issue go this long with no fix. I understand you have to defend them but it’s getting comical now.

I mentioned days and weeks in regards to SIMPLE fixes. Unlike the one we have here.
I also mentioned months. A complicated fix may take months to complete in order to ensure nothing else breaks in the process.

Again, would you rather they rush a fix in a couple weeks, risking giving a patch that breaks another part of the game, or worse, don’t even fix the problem.
Or would you rather wait a couple months to ensure they fix it the right way?

You are misunderstood. I am in no way obligated to defend Gearbox. I am saying this because I want to and don’t agree with people demanding answers and etas yet completely blow them off when you’re given one.

Why would you want to defend a company who sold a broken game to loyal customers? Borderlands is my favorite franchise and up until now gearbox did me no wrong but this is just a huge slap in the face.

I must have missed the eta too. Can you point it out to me?

I am getting caught between both threads about this issue. Thought this was all one thread.
That “eta” was about this tweet you posted from GBX earlier today, where they state a fix is soon to be on its way.
They are clearly confident about the test and say it should be out very soon if all passes.

Now in my opinion, that is a much better response that I would have expected people to be happy about considering it’s not the usual “were looking into it”

When can we expect it to pass if it works though? “Soon” is not an eta. I feel like I’ve been hearing that for months. Days, weeks or months? If it’s months then I will probably be inclined to trade this in since I have a few games coming out this month I’m picking up. If it days then we are finally on to something.

I would not trade in BL2 handsome collection I would return it and request an full refund when asked why explain in great detail the problem. Go all the way up the Corp. ladder and you will get a refund . This might/will put additional pressure on Gearbox to adjust their response to customer relations and refunds and possibility of download code for Battleborn. It will spread the word about an currently defective game if nothing else.

I bought it from GameStop and the receipt is long gone most likely. I don’t have much confidence in a full refund. Probably have more confidence in this actually being fixed and that says a lot.

Ha ha ha…That would explain why we don’t see updates/fixes too often.

I seem to recall that the payment was a limiting factor in the frequency of patches in the past. However, when GBX added the hotfix mechanism, my understanding (based on posts at the time) was that the fee had either been eliminated or greatly reduced? I know the hotfix mechanism was touted as a faster way of getting important bug fixes out in a timely fashion that would not have been possible if GBX had still had to pay the same fees.

Considering they robbed is all of 60 bucks they should have plenty of money to pay for a patch.

This could be why things are delayed…

They may be waiting to see how this effects things…FYI

Huh, wasn’t expecting that. What does the XB1 currently run off i.e. which windows core version?

As for the programmers, I get that it takes a lot of work and that they need time to put out a good product. It’s not easy to create quality content, but don’t go ahead and expect people to pay big money for it.

My questions are:

  1. Why weren’t these matchmaking issues found earlier? (Networks are their bread and butter; this isn’t a claptrap glitch on a random sidequest…)

  2. Having these issues since launch, does Gearbox feel that it owes is Xbox One fans something for their troubles (like 343 did with the Halo collection)

  3. If they don’t feel they owe the fans anything, and think it is still ‘good business’ could they provide us with a reason why

Ask MS about the launch of Halo 4 multiplayer! (Hopefully Halo 5 doesn’t suffer the same launch fate). I obviously don’t know details, but I would imagine that the problem comes down to some weird timing issue that didn’t show up on testing, simply because the internet at large is subject to all sorts of variation that are difficult to reproduce in a controlled test environment. You’ve also got the role the XBL servers play in establishing matches, so the actual point of failure could be anywhere.

Personally, having had to debug some fairly complex code myself, I have a lot of sympathy for the devs in trying to track down and fix this problem. Whatever the problem was clearly didn’t show up in testing, and has been hard to reproduce under conditions that would allow them to quickly identify the actual problem. Not something I’d want to do for a living, although I do know a few folks who really enjoy that sort of challenge.

Yes, I get that you can’t get everything until you release it to the public and I have no qualms against those trying to fix it. But we see so many games now that are having issues at launch, telling me that this is a larger issue and companies are using DLC’s and updates to patch unfinished work so they can hit a deadline. My guess is that if you talked to these developers, there would be a good chunk of them who would tell you that there could be more work done before the launch, but they just have to get as much as possibly done before then.

What bothers me is that after 6 months, is not that they haven’t come up with the perfect fix, but that the company on the whole thinks it’s reasonable for us to still have paid full price for a game that has problems, and tells people to be patient over and over.
