I actually thought you could heal shepherds too. But yeah, I won’t argue that being able to heal minions isn’t occasionally helpful for Reyna and Miko, but more often than not they just run in the way and keep you from being able to target your teammate at all.
In my opinion the only heals that should work on minions are indirect AoE heals like Kleese’s chair and Miko’s mushroom that won’t get wasted. GBX should at least give us the option to turn off minion targeting for direct support skills like beams, sunspots and priority target.
The way it is right now is clunky as hell. I sometimes have to hit the heal beam 3+ times just for it to target a player right in front of me instead of the minions surrounding them. For characters with support skills that have cooldown, this issue is even worse.
For those saying it just takes skill, I’ve played Miko since beta and can guarantee you it has nothing to do with skill. You could be the best player in the world and still have to constantly retarget.
It’s so obviously broken I’m surprised this hasn’t been fixed yet.

The targeting should be improved - Auto-targeting minions with heals is not the problem, the targeting in this game just seems to be a little unresponsive and it would stay that way even if you couldn’t target minions at all. Though prioritizing players over minions would definitely be a start and make it at least a little less frustrating.
Scenario;
Play Miko. You are aiming straight at the person you WANT to heal but the healing beam still sticks to another teammate who doesn’t need any healing and isn’t even close to where you are aiming at. In that situation you can only target the person you want to heal when the person the heal is auto-locking onto is not in your LOS anymore… Or pray that pressing the heal button over and over happens to target the player you are actually aiming at. No Minions in sight (Capture)
This. If targeting is broken, fix the targeting. I also thinking would be nice if Alani could see who is being targeted, like Reyna.

Alani does actually have a an indication for who she is targeting; it appears at the feet of heal-able targets. (A white swirly graphic, might be harder to spot if you have white/pale Team Colors)
A band-aid for this issue could be that healing a minion only consumes one osmosis stack instead of the full 800+ heal. Priority Target for minor minions could go on half a cooldown etc.
Reyna too. Should never priority target a lowly minion. Maybe a super minion, luckily the game already differentiates these for some things.

Yeah ironically you can’t heal the big bot and thralls, the only minions you’d actually want to heal.
Sorry, I know that. I meant a lock on like Reyna, to keep targets from switching at the last moment.
I play support a lot…more than any other character type and o have to 100% agree with the original post on this thread. One reason that I would really like the ability to heal minions completely removed is when a teammate is on the other side of a string of minions getting pummeled and I’m trying to heal them. I’ve had several instances where I have a full Osmosis stack with Alani and I have to try to run through, around or jump over minions (who are not even being attacked) to try to target my teammate that’s about to die. It’s so whacky

Yeah, I feel like the people making the snarky comments about those who think minions shouldn’t be viable targets for healing in an objective-based game like Incursion or Meltdown, don’t actually play as support characters.
I don’t think there’s a dedicated support player out there who hasn’t experienced the constant frustration of having a minion eat up the healing intended for a close-to-death player.
(I also suspect, but cannot prove, that those same snarky people are also the first to blame the healer when they die, oblivious to the fact that a minion stole their healing).

I’ve noticed that a lot. People who take the most crap about support, always crying for nerfs to supports hardly ever actually play as a support themselves while at the same time wanting pocket Miko on their team. GTFOOOOOO
Yeah, I had a brain fart. As @Gulfwulf says, I’m old, but I’m slow.

o.o they need to destroy it, burn it, nuke the remains, and then tbag the feature to target minions IMHO.
Tired of healing them instead of my team mates or myself when im about to die just because their stupid little bodies are EVERYWHERE. I can not stress that enough. Since they follow opponents which in the sense of trying to support your team screws you over since they are in the way. And when you try to heal those defending the sentry they get in the way yet again since their path follows directly into the area that isn’t protected where everyone fights. Its hard to play a proper support role when they interfere.

I’m on board with the whole “Can heal them but not if there’s a player closer.” I clinched a Meltdown win yesterday by pumping a full Wellspring heal into an elite bot so it could reach the grinder alive. Without that we would’ve lost by a hair.
However I am also tired of my heals going off-target if my allies are backed into a minion wave and in need of those sweet sweet hitpoints :c

I can work around it, but with Reynas shield it locks on to a specific target and it can be pain to shift to the one you want
I agree that Alani and Miko shouldn’t be able to target minions. I can imagine some rare circumstance where I’d want to heal a minion but 99% of the time it’s useless so I think it should be removed.

I don’t get why people are defending healing minions AT ALL. Unless they remove the healing for minions, auto targeting will always be a problem. You shouldn’t be able to heal them at all. and then you won’t accidentally target them.

Exactly healing a blade bot is pointless

Ummm… I can easily see reasons to priority target or heal stronger minions. Maybe not tiny chumps though.
